This is a cool idea a good way to wire this to make it easy to charge etc would be to wire in series and in parallel together make the cables loops long enough to both run though the air box with a simple switch on both cables so you can change as and when just buy pulling air box plastic off I would also run a fly lead from positive battery terminal into air box also for charging that way
When I picked up that bike - you absolutely made my day! Thank you for everything you do. How lucky am I to be in Montrose!!
This is how you can still charge the main 12V battery during the ride but get 24V starting. From the positive main battery to one side of the starter relay. From the other side of the starter relay, connect to the negative of battery #2. Finally, from the positive of battery #2, connect to the positive of the starter. Result: when you hit the starter button, the relay closes to give you 24V starting power. When you let go of the starter button, the charging system charges only the battery #1 at the standard 12V.
You will over load the charging system like that. Check with Trail Tech. Their Regulator is adjustable. I have set it at 14.5 volts for the lithium battery to help the <16 KTM starter system crank faster. It may go higher than 15v. Or use the in-line starter cable defined in other posts.
I added the small battery between the relay and the starter motor. That way it's the only battery that doesn't charge. It'll last 2 long days. But I can charge off my trailer power. There is a way to use 2 relay's to charge both while running and be 24 while cranking, but if a relay fails, you can short the batteries together so I didn't go that way.
I have a thought on how you could have both 24 volt starting and still have the ability to charge both batteries. I'll see if I can whip up a quick diagram and send it to you.
Connect little batt to starer pos.
Sent you an E-mail about this.... super slick set up from another fella I saw. Was thinking about this on my 13 300xc. Went TPI before I actually pulled the trigger on the old girl.
I’ve heard that the Yamaha gncc guys use that trick.
Just did this myself, but put the battery after the relay which should feed less juice through the relay itself, let battery #1 charge from the bike, and #2 can be charged without disconnecting any cables. Also, you can wrap the elastic holder around both batteries believe it or not :)
Hi there Guys, So I just did the 24V "upgrade" using the Anti GRavity 801 and 401, and everything works very well, however it seems like I burn the starter motor real quick, how do you guys get around this challenge.
Much better way to do this is leave the 12v system as is. Then run a 14.4v lipo inline on the starter wire. When you hit the started it fires off the lipo. Charging system will work as normal. Just charge the lipo once and a while. Bingo
👍👍
what model of anti gravity batteries did you use? I just bought the atz-7 and ag-401 anti-gravity batteries to do this mod. Gonna put them in this weekend. '14 ktm 300xc. Hoping they will do the trick.
Dig it!
I’ve recently done this mod to my bike and I’m having trouble with blowing fuses I know this isn’t your bike but do you know of the owner having any troubles with blowing fuses after every few starts?
Well thats seems little primitive, why not use a starter reley that swith to 24 volt when pushing the start?
Put charge leads to each battery with a diode, your charging 2 12 volt batteries on one system, the starter is wired in series.
