If you create an 6-8" groove in the vermiculite just past the ramp, it will create a secondary combustion chamber that will double the heat efficiency.
How does the gases reach the stack, looks like the pan cut off the flow of heat in the center...
Great video ! Thanks 🙏
Is it not necessary to insulate or brick the area below the firebox and grill?
Great video; thank you! How many full fire bricks and half fire bricks did you need for bricking the 2'x6'?

Hi Eliza, you will need 70 full bricks (2-1/2’’ x 4-1/2’’ x 9’’) to brick a 2’ x 6’ evaporator. Thanks!
Looks to me that you've fully blocked the space between the firebox and chimney. How does the smoke bypass this layout?
The measurement is 8” from back of blanket to the stack collar for the taper down on the 2x6 What is a good measurement for a 30”x8’
Nice video! Didn't realize it is from 2013. Do you have one of insulating the door?

You can try installing gasket along the door. Better to use the insulating board up the sides but above the door is tricky unless you have a post to hold the board in place.
Great video. I just got a 2 x 3 evaporator and it came with the fire, blanket material and the fire brick. The instructions say to put the fire matting blanket on the front the sides and the back, but it does not say to put it on the bottom of the evaporator. In your opinion, would you put the fire insulation blanket on the bottom also and then put your bricks on top? Thanks

Ps it is just a flat bottom.

Yes, it is a flat bottom, also does not have enough brick to cover all of the white matting that came with it on the walls either. Should I get more fire brick and cover everything that has material showing. I believe it’s like a fire blanket insulation. My thought was to use the fire insulation to cover everything in there and everything should have brick covering it. But I am absolutely no expert on this stuff so any help you can give me would be great. Thanks again Fred
Will the cement and Bricks crack if you were to transport it long distance ?

Im wondering the same thing. Going to have to move mine to a new sugar house this year. I worried about moving it.

You have to be very careful when traveling. The ideal is to make wood reinforcements to support the sides.
I stopped watching as soon as you cut the brick without eye protection. Unbelievable.

Not to mention the shitty install of the insulation.
