hi Mark how do you get clean water for water changes for years I've been filling a few 20Ltr drums from the tap adding pond declorinator and a air stone and leaving it min 2h max 4days it's not working for me any more I live in NW pennies and they are using chloride now not chlorine and I think the declorinator is converting the chloride to ammonia I need to figure out what to do over the last 2 years I've had so many tanks crash and lost a lot of fish I have been close to giving in I've all ways gone with if something seems wrong in a tank do a few big water changes but if the new water smells like cat pee what do you do😥

Hi Mark, sorry to jump in on the comments section regaring something a bit off topic, however I'm looking for expert advise on controlling a nitrite spike (max reading has been 1.5ppm). 5 days ago I purchased some longtail Panda Corys which unfortunately developed finrot after 48 hours. Within 2-3 days 1 had died, the 2nd died approx 12 hours later, the 3rd was returned to the fish store who were already aware as they have had several reports of the same thing with this particular batch of fish. The issue is that the dead fish was totally hidden away rotting in my tank for around 2 days (unable to find it until today!), and I stated to notice a few Cardinals were surface breathing and my water was clouding up. I treated my tank with finrot treament (half dosage) proir to the clouding then also discovered that the Nitrite had started to rise from zero (I perform daily water tests for 3 days when introducing new fish), however at no point has my Ammonia been anything but zero - which my specialist fish store confirmed on a sample I took in. I started with a 30-35% water change (Nitrites then reduced from 1.0 to 0.5ppm) but within a few hours when I did my next Nitrite test it had gone up to around 1.0ppm again. So I repeated with another 25% change (each time treating the tap water with API quick start to remove the chlorine), however after a few hours again the Nitrite climbed up to 1.0-1.25. I then stayed up all night monitoring the Nitrites every hour, performing another 30-35% water change at 3am this morning, by 7am my Nitrites were 1.5ppm and the fish are stressed out. At this point I've performed 5 partial water changes and the Nitrites keep creeping up and I'm very worried because I have 3 rare plecs and no spare tanks or spare cycled media to combat the bacterial bloom...2 Cardinals and a Glowlight Danio have died so far* Speaking to a local expert he has advised not to treat my tank with Prime (water conditioner) and a new bottle has just been delivered by Amazon - do I treat the Nitrite directly with the conditioner or as I've been advised, will this potentialy put me in a worse position by increasing the toxicity threshold of the water? My water is still cloudy, still around 1.0ppm Nitrite / 0 Ammonia, Nitrates are approx 0.5ppm in a heavily planted 400L tank. My head is telling me to treat the tank with Prime because the fish cannot sustain this for long and I have 3 rare & expensive Plecs that I'm terrified about losing. Please help me :(

Hi I don’t know if you can help me but I bought a pair of clowns 1 week ago, added them to quarantine treated for internal parasites and after a couple of days they were eating, doing 10 percent or less water changes every other day and then when I did a larger water change and added 2nd treatment last night, they have stopped eating today... acting normal swimming but look a little scared and stressed, maybe because of the treatment and heavy water change they are stressed? Any ideas?

Try blanched zucchini, make sure to take uneaten out after a day, also having lots of natural algae build ups in the tank helps

Sometimes it takes a day or 2 before they start to eat food they don't know yet. So the wafers might still work once they know it. I have most succes with a slice of cucumber but again it might take a day or 2 before they really start on it to eat. And peppers like Mark said are also good.

I’ve one of the fattest lil fatty arbuckle female ottos I’ve seen, plus 2 or 3 lads. Now would she probably be laying eggs in the Kubotai tank and maybe they’re just getting eaten or what not OR are they too hesitant n scared to lay in a busier tank? I could remove the, into a diff tank for few weeks to see? Have you don’t Borneo Sucker/Hillstream loach breeding? I’d luv to see you do the striped Borneo suckers. THEN I can learn n have a go 😉🤪😁💙
