How to breathe when singing Opera: diaphragmatic support | The Old School of Singing ®

In this video response to our friends and instagram followers @amin.gonabadi.tenor and @baritonkadir I invite you into the world of vocal mastery, exploring the crucial techniques of breath control and support rooted in the revered old school of singing. I spark a profound discussion on the essential role of the diaphragm and the false ribs in maintaining a steady, controlled airflow, vital for powerful and nuanced vocal performances.

Uncover the essence of ‘L’appoggio’ - the key to lung support and enduring vocal strength, as I guide you through the nuances of this time-honored technique. This video isn’t just a tutorial; it’s a journey into the mechanics of breath support and the physicality of voice production, interwoven with the artistry of singing.
As I dissect the interplay between the rib expansion and the engagement of intercostal muscles, you’ll gain invaluable insights into effective vocal cord functioning. Whether you’re an aspiring singer, a seasoned performer, or a lover of vocal arts, this video is packed with wisdom on the physical aspects of singing and the transformative power of vocal expression.
Remember, the focus is not on the muscles that are engaged, but on the action that leads to the desired vocal reaction. Embrace the expansion, support your breath, and let your voice be free!

Please suggest how to hold a note steady without sounding shaky or breathy ! Happens when I have to sing in front of someone . So they are clearly nerves but how do I overcome it ! I don’t have any issues with music theory per se or knowing how each note should sound Thank you in advance

Love the videos. keep them coming. As a heavy rocker and a lover of all music styles, you are helping me have an appreciation for opera and opera singers. When i either hear it on the radio or see it on video, i can better understand what they are doing based on your videos. You are one of the few and there's not many on YT who know what they are talking about. Your knowledge is priceless. Even in Canada, we do love all styles of music including opera. The fact you sing in different languages is amazing and that your technique is universal. One question, how do you interrupt lyrics of different language including english with the idea of vowels and the consonant? I read that most opera singers don't know how to read music so they are listening for the melody and flow of the music and words which is amazing. Just curious how you approached a song for the vocals.

Ensure strong breath support. Control the airflow, allowing for a gradual crescendo and decrescendo. That works for me - Also the Maestro Pavarotti mentioned that!. Find it on youtube.

It's inspiring to see your passion for singing at just 17! Believe in yourself, practice regularly, consider vocal lessons, warm up before singing, and listen to your favorite artists for inspiration and don't let negative comments discourage you; focus on your love for music. Hello do you have a WhatsApp that i can send you a video of this turkish singer? He sounds like a leggero tenor but also like a spinto tenor. I am VERY confused. Could he maybe be a leggero-spinto tenor? Please reply back i really want to show you the video

Hai perfettamente ragione. Difatti io ascolto sempre i cantanti dell'epoca d'oro. Quelli dopoooo no buono. Scusa eri tu in Esultate, Otello.
