How to break in a hockey goalie catching glove & how to fix a CCM Eflex 4 glove & 600 break gloves

Спорт

I had a lot of people ask me how I break in my catching gloves. I always used the Keeps 33 method, which was sourced from the GSBB back in the day.
But since I have a specific fix to help the closure of CCM Eflex & 600 break CCM gloves I figured I'd do a video showing that off. This method should help with all gloves where the heel of the glove interferes with the closure of the glove by hitting the fingers of the glove.

    I used your stick trick with my CCM eflex 3.5 glove yesterday, and when I tried it a few minutes ago it was so much better. As you said, it took out that bump close to the wrist that was keeping it from closing properly. It's not perfect yet, but after the couple times I have done the wet taping overnight and this last time with the stick added, it is almost there. I paid $150 (Canadian) for this glove, and this break in is making it a great deal now. I also relaced it with skate lace myself.

    Great video. I have a CCM Premier II (590) and that lower palm area interference is exactly the same. I’ll try this method. Thanks!

    Hockey Reviews yeah the keeps I’ve done before, it’s great. The ccm though, that’s money! Are there any other gloves with this issue/solution? I kind of would like to try it on my 2S but I don’t have it anymore but it had the same issue as what you showed when it came to closure. It was a pro palm, non stock glove.

    @@sebastianwankko6401 I've seen it on an Optik glove before. For most brands it can happen if they are broken in weird. My experience though is every 600 break CCM I have seen has this issue, and my solution made a huge improvement in mine.

    The difference between before I did this and after was pretty incredible. Went from an okay glove to a REALLY good one. But I found you had to do it multiple times.

    How do you dry out your glove cause I used the method of water and it’s SO much better but now it’s just soaked and I need it dry for my practice tomorrow so it doesn’t freeze

  • @HockeyReviews

    I just hang it in a shower or put it in a sink. If I do it the night before a game it is sometimes a bit damp but doesn't bother me

    Do you have to use a skate oven for the glove, or is there any other options?

  • @HockeyReviews

    @HockeyReviews

    4 жыл бұрын

    I would try with the really hot water first. If that doesn't work you can look into ways of using your oven but I'm not going to suggest that as you can damage your glove.

    This is not working for my Bauer 1s I bought it on sideline swap kinda used but the glove is not broken in. I ran hot water like this for 5/10 minutes tied it up three days in a row let it sit tied for 24 hours. I know it didn’t dry completely each time but I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong? It seemed more broken in each time but today now that it’s dry it’s barely looser. Any thoughts guys? Guess I’m just gonna open and close it all night for a week or two I got a big tournament at the end of April I need it for

    I found in order to get my Ultrasonic glove feeling good I had to do this method the night before I was wearing it. It helps a lot, but once it gets fully dry it gets considerably stiffer.

    If the trick is more the heat than the water, can you use a hair dryer to get it super hot and then tie it up? Or is that not enough?

  • @HockeyReviews

    @HockeyReviews

    I don't think a hair dryer would be enough. You can use a steamer if you have that though

  • @pyryhillosalo

    Steaming and the hot water method are basically the same because they both use heat to soften up the glove, the water isn't doing anything but making the glove wet which can lead to the leather becoming rough and hard.

    This method helps break in any glove. But using the stick is only really necessary if there is material that needs to be flattened out

    When using the water, is there any danger in permanently damaging the glove or the custom colors on the glove? I’m trying to do this on a custom glove and I don’t want to ruin the glove.

  • @HockeyReviews

    @HockeyReviews

    No, water doesn't damage the colours or the glove. Just make sure it isn't piping hot water and is just warm.

    The other thing that really hampers CCM closure is the D30 in the palm. Basically it’s like having a pro palm with all the good and bad that comes with it.

  • @HockeyReviews

    @HockeyReviews

    The D3O in this palm isn't along the break, so it's not the piece that gets in the way of closure.
