    That re-bar used in the brace to tension the wire is extremely dangerous. I have found if anything is left to chance, it will happen. I got anxiety seeing your little girl near it. A better approach is a wooden stay that when tensioned on that brace wire is sticking up at least 6 inches over the wood cross brace. If the fence wire is going over the top of that tensioner piece then a lot better. I have built miles of fencing contracts for the government and that's how we do it. Wood, and never metal because you never know who will be touching it in your brace system. The contracts also stipulated to never have spikes sticking out on the ends of the post for the brace wood because someone could be climbing over the fence, slip and could hit a body part on the spike sticking out. Everything flush driven.

    Cross bracing solidifies the frame. It provides rigidity against racking. The single cross brace creates a triangle which will transfer and distribute loads on the fence across all members of the frame evenly. This is a structural engineering basic. Thanks for your question.

  • @CountryLivingExperience

    @CountryLivingExperience

    5 жыл бұрын

    Glad it was helpful. Very excited for you to get out into the country. Are you talking about spacing at the corners? or along the actual straight run fence line? etc? Spacing of the corner posts is somewhat important but if you have too great a spacing you will not get the stability needed if the ratio of post thickness is smaller. Say if you have 4" posts, you need them closer to each other than if you have 8" posts to gain the same stability. You can see that I had 6" posts and I spaced them about 8' apart. Hope that helps.

    The best recommendation is 80% the height of the fence. I did a 52" fence for my goats and horses, so the posts were in the ground 41". Along with the proper bracing, your fence will hold up for a long time.

  • @CountryLivingExperience

    Good idea. They never have let go. If they did, they are twisted toward the fence. So, if one slips, it will just spring out 3 inches and hit the fencing.

    From a engineering point of view tthis is not the best way to brace a post the cross brace should be angled from the bottom of the inside post to the top of the corner post then a wire in tension using a turnbuckle from the top of the inside post to the bottom of corner post. Doing it the way in the video causes racking which can allow the fence wire to sag and loosen the posts. This may be good for a garden.but it would never be any good for livestock

  • @CountryLivingExperience

    @CountryLivingExperience

    If that is the case, then every single rancher in the whole of East Texas is doing it wrong. There is no racking and we have sandy soil. There is no fence lag here nor on any ranch that I drive by.
