I prefer to leave a holding strap at the back, pull my saw out, wedge and then take the strap out from beneath, 👍🌲🇮🇪

That's the way we do it in Sweden too. Twirling around the saw like this feels like you could accidentally catch your hingewood

As I work alone on my property I don't have someone to drive the wedges while I am cutting. So I leave a back strap in place which gives me time to place my wedges. Once they are in I then cut the back strap. Still lots of good info in your video. One excellent point that you show is about taking your time and checking both sides of the hinge cut and the bore cut.... keep everything even.

Good vid! Great to see some fresh content. My son's trying to learn as much as possible about tree work since it is such a high-demand job around here (we're just north of Tahoe a ways) and pays well. So, besides what I can share, I try to point him in the direction of some solid vids to reinforce everything. Bore cuts sure are handy!

Thanks for the valuable instruction. Two topics to propose: 1. Your choice of PPE, especially pants, & the reasons for YOUR choices & 2. A discusion of how you KZread (equipment, editing, et cetera). Thanks again. DOUGout

This video demonstrates the modernity of the equipment. If in the past we used to spend a lot of effort processing various types of trees, now with the advent of machinery, it has helped us to carry out the work quickly and effectively. Thank you for bringing such an interesting video

Cutting down trees is a science. I would imagine that if it is rotten in the middle it would make it less predictable that the tree would want to fall.

Interesting technique. I may use this on a 24" diameter I need to take down with my 18" saw. I used a bore cut with back strap approach on a problem tree that had another ltree leaning into the crown. Both were 22". I bored from each side carefully and got them aligned. Then I cut the back strap and had total control - of running away.

I am interested in plunge cuts because around structures I need to take precautions and want to have guaranteed time to add wedges. I didn't know you could do a plunge cut by rotating around the tree like that. On the one hand, it allows you to get a wedge directly in the back of the tree. On the other hand, the extra side wedge and a thicker hinge on one side introduce some twisting forces so the last cut needs to be done fairly quickly and accurately which you did. As an unprofessional homeowner, I think I still prefer to get the plunge hinge all set up first and leave a back strap so that I can add a wedge to either side to have a more symmetrical force on both sides, then just need to cut the back. However, in that case, I need to be mindful of the saw chain with the wedges whereas in your method you are past them. I may try this in a safe place a few times and evaluate it more.

Nice! I’m a new to the tree climbing. Need help with my Back cuts when I’m in the tree ... I’m Running a 12’’ bar on my Top handle saw .. so some of the limbs I can’t see the tip of the bar when I’m putting a face cut on the limb ... I went with a 12’’ bar because I was new and a first timer at this climbing work .. So wanted to be safe as possible .. been watching a bunch of videos and looks like most are running 14’’ bars on there limbing saws ... I guess practice practice practice right lol .. any tips let me know thanks !

It makes perfect sense , as 100 % tree diameter would be 1/2 way so 1/3 would be shy of halfway 🤷‍♂️

It wasn’t, he never added a trigger in the back, he cut through the whole through when he’s supposed to only cut the middle and leave a Tiny bit on the back called a trigger, once you add the wedges you cut that trigger and it falls, the trigger keeps it safe from premature falling
