How to Boof - Whitewater Kayaking

An essential skill for kayaking of all skill levels, the boof allows you to keep your bow high and dry as you continue to move downstream, full speed ahead. This is an introduction to boofing; for lean boofing and ear dips, check out the lean boof video.

Thanks so much for making this video! It made me realize why I bombed on a boof during a clinic on the Arkansas River and what I need to mentally focus on while practicing on home stretches near me to make my goal of flying down the upper ledges of the Tellico a success. I can't believe the last comments were a year ago. Your tutorials are awesome. Please keep'em coming.

Idea for you and excellent videos by the way! Ok, nobody has explained the basics of surfing very well. I have been kayaking for many years and I could never figure out why my bow kept plunging into the fast water when front surfing. Turned out that moving my seat forward in my boats was a bad idea. I also just learned that lifting a knee is a better option than edging the boat when you need to do nothing more than just front surf back and forth. Now that I can front surf a little I have found that powerful waves twist me into a side surf position and I can’t get back to the front surf position...again no help videos exist for these basic concepts. Anyway, help me and you will have the only video on the internet that instructs the first step of learning to surf - how to get on a wave and front surf.

I just want you to know I appreciate your videos. I started boating last year and watched them before but yours are the ones I'm looking at now that I'm getting a better understanding and continue to progress. You're also my go-to to share with others. I appreciate the depth of your explanation and slowing down your video shots to really see what's happening.

Great video, I subscribed. How to stern squirt or any basic tricks/skills in your Antix 2.0 could be a video. I've never owned a half-slice but am thinking that will be my next boat and the Antix 2.0 is probably top of the list. I'm wanting a more playful boat for II+/-III local runs.

sweet, it's like a sideways ollie for your kayak lol. Gotta slip the back and then stomp down, but with a rotating motion. Pretty cool. I always wanted to know how to boof. Bc my doctor told me to do it.

Good video. If I had to recommend a video, I would say discuss more intermediate topics - such as this one. This one was good because it didn't just talk about how to boof, but about how to boof when there is not much water going over the ledge. Other topics could include straight versus bent shafts, what to wear on your head for cold water, adjusting your pfd, seal launches off a level rock versus a slope, how to boof a big breaking wave (there isn't a good discussion of punching through versus some sort of off angle boof), in depth comparison of zen vs gnarvana and why a beginner wouldn't want the later, what you wear on your feet, are all pogies created equal, is there any advantage to wearing a thin glove under a pogie, how to repair dry suit socks, MORE CONTENT FOR WOMEN, just to name a few.

Setting up a kayak seems to be a mystery. As beginners, we have no idea what our feet position should look like. Do our knees push against the knee braces all the time or when we engage. Do we slide the knee brace forward or back? We all purchased Pyranha Scorch stout 2 2023 boats but are struggling with fit, not because they feel good or bad, we don't know if it is correct and safe or all wrong. Any help will be appreciated.

I may appreciate some tips - let's say some "rodeo tricks" which may help you out from somewhere, where you really don't want to be - as f.e. you just fucked the boof you learned lately :)
