    My pigeon absolutely loves me, he will cuddle up against me, sleep on me, preen me, stuff like that. But the MOMENT he sees my hand he goes into attack mode, it makes it very hard to take him back into his cage when I have to sleep 😅

    I have A pigeon underneath the stairway at this condo complex I live at. I barely noticed him or her but It won't fly away even when I approach. I tossed some wild bird food near It and its eating it. But won't fly away. There are stray cats around here. I put a tray of water too hoping it'll be strong enough to fly away but it's still there. It looks healthy but It won't fly away. It's been very hot in Vegas lately so not sure if the elements Made it weak. I'm trying to get this Pigeon to save itself and fly away. No idea what to do

    I recently bought a dove who was inside a rusty cage without any food or water, she was the only one inside the cage. When I saw her she was trying to get my attention by cooing at me every time I walked by her. Since I always wanted doves and pigeons (I've done reasearch about them before) I couldn't get my eyes off of her and eventually I got her!! :D Now she gets to have a clean cage with food and water, and we're slowly bonding with each other :)

    I rescued a NYC fledgling pigeon on December 23, 2022. On that day, the temperature dropped from 51° to six degrees. 🥶 I spotted the fledging on the ground and immediately walked passed it.. complaining to the Universe.. why did I see this bird! I went back and pick up the bird..he would of froze to death that day. I kept him cozy in my locked bathroom.. I learned how to feed him via KZread. My pigeon now has all his feathers and flies around inside my bathroom. For 8:23 the past 3 weeks.. he’s matured and started cooing and dancing.. but whenever I come near him with my hand or fingers he bites them. So I thank you for your video.. I now realize he’s protecting his territory.. which is the whole bathroom wherever he perches! 😄. He doesn’t like my fingers to come near him. I love ❤this pigeon.. he’s so intelligent! he even jumps into the sink to shower under gentle warm water. Opening up his under armpit wings… it’s so beautiful to watch. He knew this by instinct. I hope to transfer him to a friends pigeon coop.. now that weather will be springtime soon. he will gradually be introduced to the flock.. this way he can fly free in the sky as he was meant to.. and hopefully return to the coop to be fed. I would keep him but I have 5 cats.. and they haven’t seen him.. but one cat accidentally snuck into the bathroom, unbeknownst to me, while I quickly opened the door. Two hours later I hear the door rattling.. I opened it and the cat came out…😮and the bird was just perched calmly on the above the toilet bowl..unfazed.. both the cat and bird! Phew! Lucky bird!

    Pigeons also like baths, you can train them to take a bath, I made a video about it. It's faster to make them learn rituals, for exemple before the bath I always do the same stuff, I put the bird in the room, I add some food, and I setup the bath at this moment, when the bird finished the food he'll always go to the bath, first he must reach my shoulder, then cross my arm and reach my hands, then I put my hand slowly near the water to make the bird reach the bottom of the bath with no jump (to avoid the splash), once he is on the water (5cm, about 32°c) I wait until he tastes the water and start to wash himself, at this moment I use my hand to make the water drop on him, the bird will open his wings regulary, once he want to go out I catch him and quickly put it on the floor, there the bird remove the water from his feather, but also get cold, I put it in a blanket and bring it the warmest room of the house, he'll dry out in an hour. Mine enjoy bath every 2 weeks, once again it must be regular, if something broke the process the bird could refuse to take his bath, you can put your hands in the water and make noise (make you hand acts like a pigeons in water), sometimes your bird will follow your hands, but the big problem is the splash, if the bird must jump into the water he won't do it, and the regular human bath or sink are slippery and they hate that, so help them with your hand. In my tuto I grab the bird and put it slowly in the water, but I only do it when I'm sure the bird want to reach the water, it's not the best way. If you scare your bird it will take many more attemps to restore his trust. So be carefull. You can also train your bird to beleive that your hands are other birds, you can make circle with your hands to perform a pigeon dance, you can also show your empty hands from top to bottom when you have no more food, the bird will understand it if you always do it. Repetitions and rituals is how I process, I don't use positive reinforcement with food because pigeons tends to get too fat. You can also breath loudly to tell your bird to look at something, then you point the objet with your finger, he'll understand. The voice works too and the bird can recognize your voice in a familly, but they act like you are singing, that's why I prefer to teach them things without the voice. I also wissle only when I have to catch the bird to put it in the cage, then I put food inside, with this method the bird even jump on the floor and wait me to catch it, it's the ritual for that and he doesnt fear the cage, which is important because he must feel safe inside, for exemple when you have many guests.

    You have a most adorable little city turkey. I've never seen a fan tailed pidgeon. I had pigeons visiting and entering my apartment in 2020 when there was no garbage on the city streets and they were so desperate for food. In 2021 as humans went back to work and the garbage returned, the birds were less desparate so they wouldn't enter. Not a one trusts the humans despite being so nutz to give them sunflower nuts and multigrain breads. I thought about capturing one for a pet, but they just rebel and hide their head like they're so terrified I'm going to bite thier head off. We need to be able to get babies so they can not be so afraid and rebelling.

  • @MyPetPigeon1

    @MyPetPigeon1

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi! I do not recommend capturing a city pigeon for a pet. And please don't take their babies! They only need rescuing if they lost both parents, are injured, or are a lost racing pigeon that has no local home or flock. There are already so many pigeons who need good homes being taken care of by responsible foster homes. If you would like to adopt one, check out Palomacy www.pigeonrescue.org/ and see how they can help you!

  • @TUBESPECIFIC1

    @TUBESPECIFIC1

    @@MyPetPigeon1 I know it wouldn't be good to capture one for it would just rebel and not be happy so I don't do it. However I find this era to be a most lonesome one. You can still get parakeets but too fragile. I don't see anything to rescue nor do people have animals to give away. There are lots of free rescue animals out in places where people own land and homes but one must know people and be trusted. I think people in apartments are paying money for their pets through sources that breed them. Animal rights now supercede human rights. People can be chuckef out in the streets to die of hunger and homelessness while it becomes unethical to hold an animal in captivity unless its a rescue or its a food source. Yes I would hold chickens to lay eggs against thier will for we will need that when the trucks stop delivering. Somebody wanted 250 on Facebook for a cock a teel bird rescue but I had to pass as that's too expensive. This is not a great time if one wants pets and people friends.

First few days I had to scoop him with it, but now he sprints into it cause he knows it’s gonna be an adventure. I'm going to get a pigeon some time in the new year. I've kept parrots before but I've always loved pigeons. I want to get a young one from a breeder. I'll probably get a Dutch owl because they're said to have a good temperament. Great video, btw. :)

    I think most pigeon breeds have a great temperament. I have an Old English tumbler and he’s so sweet. I got him when he was a week old, and getting them young is a good way to ensure that they’ll be bonded to you. Especially before they can eat on their own, I had to syringe feed him. Also in my opinion it’s good to get them young so you’re not taking them away from their established home with all their pigeon family/friends and forcing them to readjust to a new home as a solitary bird. But they can still bond that way, just takes longer!

    I brought my pidgy inside when i saw her not able to fly outside of my apartment. I didnt think it was fair for her/him to get killed while she/he is at a disadvantage. She lets me hold her and sits on my shoulder. Shes able to fly a lot better now, not sure if shes recovered. Is it unethical for me to keep her if i provide an adequate enclosure? Im honestly very attached to her and ive learned all (or most) pigeons are domesticated...

  • @ToyotaTechnical

    @ToyotaTechnical

    It's not her natural environment on a guess and she likes you. It's like if you let a lost puppy follow you inside. The ethical aspect is subjective, depending on who you ask. My point of view? They're escaped domesticated pets that survive only by virtue of skyscrapers. Take the pidge in as your own.

    Thank you so much for this video! My Chi-Chi is a homing pigeon squab I rescued at 2 weeks. She is now 8 months old and has clearly imprinted on me. She follows me all around and does the same Rose does. We also do the head bobbing and I'll coo at her like you do, people find it so funny! But my problem is that she is not interested in a male pigeon at all! She is always playing nest now and calling me like constantly, but she hasn't laid any eggs yet. I see Rose has eggs? Could I swop out fertile eggs if Chi-Chi starts laying?

  • @perlaserrano1791

    P.S. They say you can hard boil her eggs and put back to her nest or use fake/plastic pigeons eggs. I think these methods are for not having smelly situation if the eggs break for some reason.

    P.S.2. If you opt to use pigeon pants, you have to make sure your pigeon's butt stays clean under it, so when they are not on the pigeon and the pigeon cleans her butt, she doesn't eat her feces and gets sick (it can be dangerous, hygiene is important).

    I am not sure if I understand you. If your pigeon did not make sex with another pigeon, those eggs are not fertile. (Note: Pigeons choose lifelong partners, they don't do one-night stands.) My rescued pigeon has recently laid two eggs and I leave her with them. I have even gathered a bunch of dry grass to her to be able to build a nest on my desk. (Mine is completely free-roamer (within my room) as she uses pigeon pants. This method needs extra caution as your pigeon is doomed if she escapes in pants.)

    It is important not to take her eggs away because then she will lay more and more which leads to depletion of calcium and eventually she can die. It is also important that your pigeon have all the nutrients. Mine has many seeds (including chia, poppy and sesame seeds which have high content of calcium), gains and most importantly I give her Harrison's Bird Foods (High Potency Fine) which is more complete than seeds and grains as it has vitamin D, vitamin B12 (and calcium), etc. which your indoor pigeon won't be able to get on her own solely eating grains and seeds. (I am using this bird food because my vet recommended it and I saw positive effect. Maybe there are better ones or using vitamin supplements (in pills or liquid forms) are good, too.)

    Hi ! Looks like you have done some research! You seemed to answer all your original questions. I let Rose sit on her eggs as long as she wants. No need to cook or swap them. I even crack them open when she's done to rinse out and feed the shells back to her. They are NEVER smelly! No rotton eggs here! It's amazing. I think that would only happen if you washed away the bloom which is the protective outer coating.

    You should clear out anything unsafe BEFORE you let him out. Then about twenty minutes before you put him back, tell him! Say something you can repeat that’s clear on meaning like “Okay, it’s time for bed”. Then make sure as per usual the cage is open. Entice him with some safflower seeds or unsalted peanuts in there, then let him go in on his own and say “time for bed” before you close it. Never reach into the cage to grab him, you’ll just scare him more.

    I'm a pigeon breeder. The best way to get a pideon to bond with you is to take it out of the nest just as it starts to feather out. You will have to hand feed it, (not easy) until it can feed itself. This takes about two weeks. Keep it away from other birds, and carry it around with you as frequently as you can.

    The tail sweeping sounds like when she brings her tail down low while strutting around? That's a mating dance. She is wooing you and you can pet her head and tell her how pretty she is. Feed her out of your hands so she can trust them as part of you. I think she'll calm down when she knows you are her only one.

He won’t eat or drink so I had to force feed him with a syringe. I took him outside my backyard but hopped over the fence. Still can’t fly. There are no avian vets around me. What should I do. Why don't you see if there's an adult pigeon near you for adoption? Any male or female adult can bond with you just the same as a young one. I don't have any advice on if you can let it fly outside and it will come back to you, other than that I've heard numerous stories of beloved pigeons getting attacked or killed or never came home when you let them do this. If a pigeon is born to feral parents, let it stay feral in the wild. If it's already in need of human shelter, give it a good safe home and don't let it fly free. Pigeons need a flock of birds for protection. That's a fact. But you are, of course, welcome to your own opinion.

    They always have a pecking order. Observing a flock that visited me regularly for a few years, I noticed that when their kids are still hanging out, the dad will attack and peck at their kids eyes like they're trying to tell them to go screw off and find a place of their own to call home to eck out a living in a really hard places like the cities that get really hot in Summer and brutally freezing cold in Winter. Despite how bad they treat one another, they tend to stay right around the local area of the block where they're born in old building areas where they were kept in urban areas for food and eggs before the chicken and the egg was commericalized. Unfortuntely if you get them in your apartment, the neighbors can hear all that cuck a cooing noise for it reverberates so then you compaints and many apartments have no pigeons and no reptiles rule while a dog or cat requires a $400 deposit and then $50 to $75 a month pet rent. It's crazy for people used to be allowed to have egg layers in the cities and grow tomatoes. Not in the 21st century for the power financial elite, landlords and employers, don't want us to have anything but debt, fear, and misery.
