Hey Happy Campers!!
Today's Episode is another step in the Boat Project Series! In this video I will be upholstering the bow side panels of the boat!
Tips:
Be sure to use a high quality marine outdoor grade vinyl for long lasting results. Be sure to use stainless steel staples to prevent rusting over time. Be sure to use thin foam or automotive headliner material to wrap around the edges creating a protective barrier between the edge of the wood and the vinyl (not shown in video). This video is just meant to be a helpful guide, there are many different ways to do upholstery, this is just the way that worked for me, individual results will very.

    a couple of years ago I jumped in and reupholstered my open bow cushions. With minimal sewing. My sewing machine had some struggles so I have not tackled the rest of the upholstery. With this video I think I am ready to try again with no sewing!! Looks amazing!!

    @@MileHighCampers , I'm re-watching the video. Still liking this fix. Quick question while watching it. The vinyl seems to be a bit bulky, is that the case?

  • @MileHighCampers

    @MileHighCampers

    @@guyh.4553 They can seen that way, you may have to play with stretching it from both directions at the seam to make it a little tighter. Some pieces that I worked on took a lot of time of stretching, sometimes even pulling the staples up and re-positioning the material underneath and on top to get the outcome I wanted so you may have to play with it to get the result you want. Hope that helps!

    We are restoring our 1991 Bayliner and your videos have been super helpful. We even ordered vinyl to wrap it because we think we can definitely handle that now. Just a question if you have time...we have two pieces in the front of the open bow that we could not see screws to remove so we cut the vinyl to be able to see the screw head and remove them. Did you have this issue with this and and how would we get those back on once recovered? Not even sure how they would have covered them in the first place to get them on. Any help from anyone would be great if they ran into the same thing!

    Thanks for sharing. What I've noticed, as Im sure you did, filming with any kind of light coming in the wrong way makes it hard to see what youre working on in video

    I will admit I struggled with trying to find the best camera angles while trying to get the work done. I could have had the whole interior done a week earlier had I not filmed it. But I thought someone could get some use out of it. On a side note I did spend the money and bought studio lighting, I used them on a few of my newer videos and it made a big improvement.

    Anytime I do restore I sand the back of the wood that is exposed fill in all cracks and holes with wood putty sand one more time and use enamel paint to seal it works great for older panels I have 37 year old sun ray did that to all the cushions on it and they will last another 37 years.

    How did you go about measuring the fabric so you can know how much vinyl to get? It's my first time doing upholstery

  • @MileHighCampers

    @MileHighCampers

    5 жыл бұрын

    I measured the panels and kinda of added extra for overlap... I was right on with the blue but I did end up with a lot of white left over. One way you could do it is dissemble all the pieces and than lay them out. I think most of the rolls or 60" wide. I'm sure there is a better way but that's what I did. Thanks for checking out my video!!

    How about doing the boat seats (back to Back) ?

  • @MileHighCampers

    @MileHighCampers

    4 жыл бұрын

    The back to back seats where brand new, not recovered, from what I researched it was cheaper to buy new ones than to have an upholster recover them. They would have to be sewn to look good. Might want to call around to some upholsters in your area to find out what would be the cheaper option.

    Hey, Thanks for checking out the video... I not 100% sure about that... this was a 1992 in this video... I would imagine they either unsnap out or they are hinged and need to have screws removed to take them out. If you check out our channel we have the removal process video there. Thanks again!!

    Man this really helps but I have a stupid question. How do you attach it back to the bow as i am doing my first one and there's nothing left but pieces of rotten wood and holes in the fiberglass

  • @MileHighCampers

    @MileHighCampers

    5 жыл бұрын

    I will be honest it is a little tricky there were short screws that I had to reach in behind the fiberglass and screw them back in the a really short screwdriver. I think if I had to do it again I would try these clips that Sail Rite Sells, check out this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dIJ70a2HndC2YpM.html
