Dear Louise. I have watched this video several times over the last 2 years and at last I have clicked to the importance of cleaning and drying the brush EVERY time, and not adding water onto the paper once it is drying. I guess I wasnt ready to learn this very impotant lesson the first times I watched it. Each time I learn more stuff from your videos. Keep up the most excellent work.
I am a beginner watercolorist so this tutorial was very helpful. Your paintings are stunning! I don’t know what my style will end up being yet so I watch a lot of videos of various styles.
This video is so effective because you keep repeating the information about the amount of water in the brush and on the paper and reminding us not to try to go back into the painting until the paint is completely dry. It is so tempting to just dab here and there and then, as you say, you have a mess! I appreciate your teaching style. Thank you.
You are a wonderful teacher! I wish I had found your videos months ago. It's one thing for a teacher to tell you to use a damp brush, but it's such a better thing when the teacher tells you why and shows what she means by that. You have addressed many of my frustrations. Thank you so much!
I feel very encouraged by your detailed explanations, thank you
The amount of time planning your tutorials must be extreme! Clearly you love teaching and creating Louise! Thank you for sharing and teaching!
I love the bloopers - this really humanizes you and so relatable to many of us! LOL Thanks Louise and hello from Toronto, Canada!

They’re a perfect addition to your brilliant tutorials
Wonderful tutorial. I made a paper lemon cutout, traced it many times, and painted enough lemons to make lemonade for the world 😂 Thank you!
You are the best teacher I have every had. I have painted for at least 40 years.
Loved the tutorial, and howled at the comments at the end! "You'll loose it!"
Excellent, detailed, instructions. I drew the circles this morning and will draw lemons later today. Looking forward to working through this video later today. Thanks so much for sharing your skills with us! I just joined your site last week! Learning so much! Central Texas here.
Best blending video I've seen, and easy to repeat the practice exercises. You are so talented as an artist and teacher. Thank you for sharing.

First time viewer here. Thanks so much for this awesome video! You’re so talented! Your voice is so calming & your explanation/teaching skills are excellent ! I absolutely LOVE the bloopers!! IMO: So often, viewers are exposed to “perfection” on the internet which I believe perpetuates the false narrative that we need be perfect 100% of the time; it’s unrealistic, and most importantly: unnatural… Thank-you for disrupting this narrative by showing the bloopers and for exposing your humanity & humor! You’re most appreciated!
Wonderful explanations, Louise. I'm looking forward to trying them. .......And here I thought you are a very serious person! The outtakes are hilarious! You're a great sport for letting us see the real, [im]perfect you. Wishing you well and many thanks.
Louise, I just wanted to say that I am fairly new to watercolor painting and I was looking for clips on blending. I came across your clips and I have to say they taught me everything I needed to know. I’ve looked at other clips and yours comes out on top every time. I love the way you go through the steps methodically and verbally repeat necessary actions that have to be taken at each stage. You are truly an artist and know your craft. Thanks a million, keep up the great work. Best regards, Dave.
So happy to have found your channel as I am new to this and have soooooo much to learn. I love your tutorials!
Just what I needed today! Great information, simply presented. 🌸
Great basic lessons which also serve as a reminder for those of us who are no longer beginners, but far from experts! Thank you, Louise.

HI, LOUIS~ I HAVE ALWAYS JUST LOVED YOUR ACCENT, AND YOUR TUTORIALS~ NOW I JUST FOUND OUR YOU ARE FROM AUSTRALIA!!! HOW NEAT!!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR DOUBLE GIRAFFE PAINTING BEHIND YOU~ I'M SURE YOU PAINTED THAT ONE, YOURSELF~ I HAVE BEEN WONDERING IF YOU HAVE A REFERENCE PAINTING OF THAT ONE, AND/OR A RUTORIAL OF IT!??? I JUST LOVE IT~
You are a great teacher and I love your out takes!
This is the best blending video I have ever seen. Your detailed descriptions are so very helpful. It’s worth the watch. Thank you for sharing this. By the way, I’m a fan of yours also on Skillshare. 🌺
I did the practices! The hardest one was having the two colors blend on dry paper from opposite sides. Maybe it was the pigments I used because they wouldn’t blend. Note to self , use a separate brush for Diox Purple, Winsor Violet . It doesn’t rinse easily from the brush . I learned a lot from this one and will practice often,
😂 love your bloopers at end of your video 👏
This is by far the best tutorial I have ever seen on blending, Louise - thank you so much for sharing your expertise. Your explanations and demonstrations are super clear and inspired me to to practice! Thank you so much!
Thank you for showing the "bloopers" at the end. 1) It shows that you are human, 2) You're comfortable showing your vulnerabilities, and 3) Second, Third, or Fourth time's the charm. I also benefitted from learning the techniques you demonstrated. Thanks!
I haven’t seen anyone leave a gap between the edge and the damp paper before. Such a good idea!
The best tutorial ever on blending!!!! I'm so so thankful!!! Making my journey on watercolor painting a lot easier and enjoyable, Louise!!! 💟💟💟
Oh wow! Off topic, but you look absolutely stunning in bright yellow!
There are so many watercolor tutorials out there!! I keep coming back to you because I love your paintings, and I really appreciate being able to see how you blend your colors. I’m not really a beginner, but I sure feel like one some days. I’ve been using a so-called watercolor journal, struggling, and finally realizing the paper is awful for blending. This afternoon I got out some Arches, and just played. I didn’t create anything amazing, but what a difference. Beginners (and everyone) really need to use quality watercolor paper because so much of the frustration comes from paper that is not cotton! (I know 100% is best, but even *some* cotton makes a difference.) I also buy large sheets, and cut the down. It’s much more economical (as you know)!
I have been practising watercolor for a little while now, but I have to say that your explanations are absolutely outstanding : the video quality is amazing, seeing how you use and move your brush is very helpful, and everything you say is so clear! When you explained wet on wet by saying that the new color you add must be the same amount of "wetness", something clicked in my head... I have literally done wet on wet mostly wrong for months (if not years...) Thank you so much!
Your bloopers were fun!! 😂
Your instructions are invaluable, Louise. Thank you, so much for sharing your techniques.
You are very good and generous teaand person! I wish all the best to you!

Thank you so much for the brilliant tip about not taking your water all the way to the edge. I’ve had the problem of a ring of color on the edge, but didn’t know why it was happening. Much appreciated. 🥰
