    Thank you for your ongoing support. Even though my hearing is in the normal range, tinnitus is a strong subjective symptom. I am exactly stuck in the bad loop you described. It is a pity that there are no doctors in Japan who can provide a clear path to a solution as you have done. I will work on sound therapy myself!

    One of the most useful explanations of the Tinitus challenge available anywhere. In your previous videos your advice has been invaluable to me in mastering my tinitus and this advice is reiterated in this video. In my circumstances tinitus ocurred following sudden single sided sensory neural hearing loss, which resulted in mild to moderate permanent loss. It manifested itself as low level ringing in the affected ear and periodic large tinitus spikes at approx monthly intervals that would last for several hours. The explanations you provided in your videos helped rationalise the panic (fight or flight response) and the techniques of controlled breathing, meditation, sleep hygiene and relaxation have now enabled a state where I am not aware of the tinitus and the fear of reocurring tinitus spikes is minimised by the knowledge that I have the ability to control it. Whilst wearing hearing aids may have helped with the stimulation of the auditory system I believe that the breathing, relaxation, meditation and body scanning helps lower stress and anxiety which has suppressed the awareness of tinitus. It has certainly worked for me as I have had no awareness of tinitus for several months since adopting these techniques. A big thank you Ben.

    My Tinnitus was caused by dental work which misallied my jaw. This misalignment caused TMJ and then Tinnitus. It took about 2 years to figure out what caused it, once I did simple TMJ stretches and strength treatments took the Tinnitus from a 8 to less then a 1.

    What worked for me was to mask when it was loud, but not tying to cover it completely when it was lower. I feel like forcing myself to hear it and accept it as non threatening helped me acclimate faster. When I masked it constantly I would get into the fight or flight as soon as I could hear my tinnitus. So I was relaxed with white noise, but that isn’t practical all day long (I don’t have or need hearing aids; I use online maskers) I’ve only had Tinnitus for 3 months and the first two months were terrible. I couldn’t sleep and that made it worse. As soon as I decided to hear it sometimes and then distract myself with another activity, I began to sleep and the stress disappeared. I went from about a 5 to a 2 on a scale of 1-10. This happened pretty quickly. I was able to sleep that night and it got better from that point on. The stress comes from thinking “OMG, I’ve got this terrible condition where I will never hear silence again”. Really, modern life ensures we don’t hear silence much anyway. There is always an appliance hum, lawn mower, traffic noise, tv etc. A quiet bedroom or bathroom is the only place there is true silence for me. I realize that this isn’t the typical approach, but when all else fails, maybe this will work for others too.

    I really relate to your reply Kathleen. When I am able I just try to accept the sound and get distracted with something else (Audiobooks and painting are my go to's). I need noise at night still and know I can reach for sound therapy on bad days but feel leaning into it bit by bit is the way forward. Progress is patchy but in the right direction. Good luck to you 🙂

    Absolutely spot on. Stress impacts T very highly. All of what you presented here sounds (haha) exactly what I've been and going through for the past 2.5 years. But curious as to why there is no cure for the impact of the inner ear cells that you say are responsible for the T? Why is there not a cure or device ? I have a great audiologist, ENT and therapist I've used as well. Not all Dr.'s think $$ is number 1 .

    When having a tinnitus masking program installed in your hearing aids, should the volume of the tinnitus masking sound be set slightly louder, equal to, or slightly quieter than the actual tinnitus? The tinnitus masking program that's been recommended for my hearing aids is basically the same kind of sound at the same frequency as the tinnitus I typically "hear". But I'm not sure what the volume of a masking program should be.

  • @treblehealth

    @treblehealth

    The sound therapy should be set lower than the volume of your tinnitus. Your brain cannot habituate to a sound it cannot hear.

    Hi doctor, I’ve had tinnitus for the last 3 years and it had started becoming really good to handle. I always wear my silicone earplugs which have been created to fit my ear canal. However, 8 days ago I went to a party with an already peaked anxiety and came back home. Ever since that day when I’m calm, the tinnitus comes back to normal otherwise I’m just too scared as my mind is constantly stuck in a guilt that why did I go to the party and I’ll be stuck like this forever. Please tell me doctor, will I get back to being how I was before the party (as I did wear my plugs)

  • @stephendiamond9893
    @stephendiamond9893 Жыл бұрын

    Recently within the last year I began to have tinatus. Previous to that and I am 67 years old I will have intermittent tinnitus where I would get ringing and then I would stop and then I would get ringing may be a couple of days later and then I stop for a week. But I think the Turning point was when after taking a bath I took a Q-tip and I normally do and I probed gently on the outer part of my ear but in my left ear I might’ve thrown a little too deep. Subsequently I began to hear the buzzing which progressively got worse on a scale of 1 to 10 With 10being the worst I would say six would be a good number. I have been watching your videos and I began to collect all the information and apply that information. This is what I have found. In my opinion minimizing stress is the key. I noticed when I would watch the news my tinnitus got worse louder buzzing buzzing. So I switch channels so to speak in a literal sense I switched over to the Three Stooges. I change my diet. Lower caffeine intake Sodium and try to get at least 7 to 8 hours sleep at night. I put a fan on and not directly on me but away for me just so I could feel the cool air around my legs. I also try to not discuss politics or get into debates. I try to be more neutral and avoid arguments at all costs. I learn to laugh more and be more proactive take on More constructive responsibilities around my house And getting a sense of accomplishment doing repairs around my home. And doing for others. I find when I’m busy helping others and subscribing to your channel I manage my tinnitus To a greater degree. I also noticed and I was experimenting with sound waves that you can get on the channels and putting The sound vibration to the back of my head. I noticed after about 30 seconds my tinnitus goes from a six down to about a 3. Also when I go in to public places I smile at people and I hold the door for people and I say good morning to people and be more respectful to people seems to be helping. Of course I’m not an expert on managing tinnitus I know you are and so I want to thank you. This information above is just my opinion. And reducing anxiety stress and watching your diet No smoking no drinking I believe the central nervous system has a lot to do with it!

    What ur completely disregarding in this video is tinnitus from TBI. There is no acoustic/middle ear/inner ear source for this. Mine came from my brain stem from an undiagnosed TBI. The lack of awareness of this amongst HCPs like yourself is unacceptable. It led me down the wrong road for months. Susan Shore is on the right path with the DCN. It had nothing to do with anxiety or stress. You should have a more robust assessment and treatment strategy for patients like us. Otherwise u r doing more harm than good in this patient blaming model. Please take this constructive criticism and learn to apply it. I've had 2 sessions with u directly Ben so I'm aware of your approach.
