All this plumbing up with spare pipe to back of bend all well and good in the classroom. Teach with full lengths so they have to bend up as well. If you want say 300mm add on 47mm and put that mark to back of former to allow for the bend. No messin with bits of pipe and squares.

Well done lads more of this please it's really hard to believe that apprentices still don't get proper on the job training and get shown things like this properly in their day-to-day work. A lot of bosses just won't take the time to show them anything like this. well done.

Most people aren't competent enough to teach it. Those that are, think they're making themselves less valuable by passing on the knowledge. The construction industry is full of these idiots. I love teaching people how to do new things!

Interested in seeing the video getting the back of the bend a metre in, I had to do this the other day. I bent it as much as I could with the conduit the right way in the former then turned it upside down sat the bend in the underneath of the former and bent it upwards, thought there has got to be a better way!

Great video lads. I was lucky personally done my time with a commercial/industrial firm with a lot of old school sparks so got taught the right way. Surprises me how many sparks can’t bend tube but I get it’s not their fault, it depends what type of firm they done their time with. Do they teach this in college now or is it still purely house bashing?

When doing practices with learners, what is your preferred length to give them to practice with? 600mm? 1m, 2m, whole stick at 3m?

Jake is clearly skilled at bending tube. It would be good for my learners to see how to bend long lengths of conduit as mentioned in some of the earlier comments. I think you spotted it Gary when Jake inserted the tube the other way around when he had to get a further bend in it. Still did a perfect job mind.

The roller on the handle is too high for 20mm tube it should be low as possible to the former, that is in the 25mm former hole.

Good little vid, only one thing that jumped out, when I was an apprentice ( when Jesus was a lad) my spark used to boll**k me when I left the "roller arm " up after a bend and of course I never paid any attention, until the day that it swung down and hit me on the back of the head. Future note, always return the roller arm back to a down position after a bend.

Worth pointing out, in case it wasn’t obvious in the vidjeo, that UK conduit is far thicker in wall thickness than EMT in use stateside. This is why we can’t use those floor-bender type tools. You’d maul the floor….

Very fussy and time consuming method, learn your tools and either learn by trial cuts or calculate the amount you need for the bend. Most formers have marks for this. Once you have your reference mark and you know the offset just remember that number and add or subtract it to the required dimension (add or subtract according to reference mark location). A good reference and surface to measure from is the pipe clamp. This method also works mid pipe...measure your long straight, mark close to bend(eg 2.2m) mount in bender, now use that mark to measure the final length for bend, easier to handle a foot of tape than it is 3m of tape dangling on the end of a pipe.
