How to BELT (How to Find It, How to FEEL It) Know That You're Doing It Right! Avoid Strain.

If you sing, you've wondered if you are belting correctly, or if you even know how to do it. The reality is, that belting has less to do with full-on volume or loudness. A good belt has more to do with how you place your note and how you think about where the note should be vibrating or resonating from. I'll break down how to know you're belting correctly and show you how to FEEL a good, loud, resonant BELT VOICE!

@@chrisliepe I accidentally found my own belt harmonics technique. Very Bright, without needing to: sound nasal/twangy, With Support up to A4. Just lack of vocal support, the exact technique. And I didn't know that the thing that i was doing was actually correct. Lmao

The beach is an ideal place.
You sure sound a lot like Chris Cornell while belting. Not all belters have that timbre.
Great tutorial. I have learned over the years from great singers and beginners that the consummate belter has to be confident. You have to be mentally willing to go there. Belting is a place to go to in your voice. Many voice teachers discourage it, because they themselves never learned to do it.

I like Ken as a person and I did his course, but Chris Liepe is the real deal for me. Chris explains and demonstrates in an effortless, clear way (whereas Ken sounded like he was straining and I didn't always follow in my body what he was trying to teach me). FYI since doing lots of videos with Chris and just 1/3 of his vocal course, I've added 3 notes to low and 8 notes to my previous range :-) Thanks Chris!

Thanks again for your wonderful lessons Chris!
Amazing, man!! You're awesome teacher!
Push hard Chris. Your work is super appreciated.
Such a great lesson again. Thank you so much, Chris!
Thanks for the amazing lesson and your story Sensei !
This technique is 100% correct, it’s great to hear someone actually acknowledging that belt or the ‘calling sound’, can be used efficiently and without causing strain or vocal damage. The key is to not push the sound too much. Let it resonate. Don’t feel like you have to add extra volume…because this sound quality is already loud, even though the singer can’t necessarily hear that. This vocal placement is yelling. It’s a primal sound that we use to get someone’s attention. I find it complicates things when you think you are ‘singing’. It’s a sustained calling quality. However, postural support is essential, as you ascend higher. You need to support your voice using your body. Lift your chest up just a little, so your diaphragm isn’t collapsed and keep a straight alignment from your head/ear, right down throughout your body. You’ll feel your back and abdominal muscles engage to support the weight of the head. If you watch someone suddenly call or yell at someone, you’ll notice how their body naturally lifts itself into that position, to properly support the voice.
Love your videos Chris! Currently setting up a studio practice space and I'll be hitting these videos with a lot more focus! Thank you!
I didn't see the video yet and I've already drop my like, you are really good Chris.

Wow.. It gives so much power to the voice sheesh thanks for the amazing video man! I'm improving quite a lot from your free vocal course as well!
This is such good stuff!
Wow, man. Thanks for this and it's just amazing how, after long-long years of my constant searching for understanding belting, you pop this video up and provide the ultimate and simplest explanation of belting as well as how it feels and sounds in terms of being contrasted with not belting. My respect to you, and you have got a new fan!
“Go outside even” sounded fair enough so I gave it a try. I’m not sure whether this is related but all my neighbours ignored me this morning

Appriciate his effort to demonstrate it, not many vocal coaches dare to do that
Hey Chris, I've been watching your videos for a couple weeks now and you're far and away the best online singing teacher I've found. I even took in-person lessons a few years ago and while it was helpful, I feel like your teaching style just clicks with me. Maynard James Keenan and Chester Bennington being two of my biggest singing inspirations, I also really appreciate you covering some of their techniques. Look forward to more, keep it up!
One of the only channels that actually combines realistic ways to practice with a detailed explanation of how it's supposed to work and feel. :) Thanks!
Thank you Sir. I've learned a lot from you.
Herooooo love your videos

Wow! Thank you so much for "over there"! Well done!
You should teach us how to vibrato like that, your videos are so good.
Thank you for the lesson! You are so cool!
Just discovered my mixed voice a few days ago thanks to watching your video on manipulating fry a few weeks ago and just internalized it until my training could support doing it freely, it's so pingy and LOUD and effortless. I'm not an amateur, I've been singing on stage for 10 years, just never had enough vocal training. You're doing great content and we sure appreciate it. ps: big fan of the beard
Love the passion he explain things with)
Thank you for your selflessness and generosity in teaching & sharing. 🎶 "Over There" ...sensation in the mouth and nose, relaxed jaw.
One week with you as a singing teacher and I would be rid of most of my problems with singing. A big compliment and thanks to you.
Now i found my twang which gave range, and found my belt which gave me power. Now please make a video that mixes these two.
I love these self written examples of what the subject of the video is . "i finally found my belt!!" just like that confounded bridge. This channel rules!

Thank you Chris... I'm really improving my vocal skills with your videos, like never before. I've been singing for about 15 years but not with the right techniques. I quited singing because of my job for about 3 years, and I went back to singing on the last year. But trust me, with your tutorials, I'm way better than before, and still learning. Thaks man. Saludos desde Colombia!

Hello sir I just found your channel and I just want to say thank you this the best explaination for belting in KZread I sing mariachi music and we use belting alot.
Your Videos are very helpful thx
Remember: it's about resonance, about placing of the SOUND. Don't put stress on your chin, lips and don't forget to oversupport the air.
I’ve been seeing a vocal teacher for the past two months and it has definitely been helping me sing and also understand how to speak better. your videos also are super insightful all the concepts you talk about are spot on and something I think more teachers should take note on your teaching methods. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I can't even tell how much better at singing I've become since I started to watch your videos. I'd like you to make a video about proper talking on a daily basis and how to improve your talking power. Thank you again, Chris.
So great. Thank you
The question still remains... whats over there? thanks for your great lessons. You're real. You aren't embarrassed to sound silly sometimes when finding a pitch, note or technique. So it makes it so much easier to follow. Also you explain things step by step which a lot of other teachers don't. One downside: If you show examples, don't throw in other singing techniques like fry if it's not about fry because it's harder to find out whats happening. I watched a lot of your videos, still watching more. Keep it up, you're awesome Chris.
Fantastic!!

Chris, after watching this video for the 74 time (and many of your other one's) I finally realised what you were talking about. I was driving home last night, it was dark and miserable. I thought 'hey'! no body can see or hear me, I'd try a different approach to singing a few Shinedown songs. Brent Smith has a very strong chest voice which I could not match when he went above my break. I used to employ my head voice but always suffered vocal fatigue after one or two tracks (aching in my throat and neck) AKA stress. My voice sounded weak & thin which frustrated me. I thought he must have a great gift, which he has. I'm not saying it was perfect by no means but I had no fatigue. Now I think I need to practice, practice & more practice to work on my vowel placement & maybe breath support. It's gonna be a long road I think but thanks for videos. I'll keep watching for advice & new techniques. Thanks.
🎉Thank You for this Video 👍💪
Im a guitarist not a singer. But somehow ive watched almost all your tutorials 😂 might go to the rehersal space and sing 🤷🏻♂️

I can belt a F5/Gb5 now Chris. Thanks for all your wonderful videos. You just got to be able to hit it in either chest voice or head voice. That's why it's important to grow head voice. I really want that c6 but its hard maybe in a few more months of training. I can do mix easily now but at first I sucked finding the spot for it lol.

I have this childhood dream that would one day of singing in a band. I also write songs . Singing makes me feel so good and happy. I just don’t know if others would like the singing voice or the songs and am I already too old? As a child I was told to shut up when I sing or play the piano at home, and was kicked out of the choir as well. Because of that, I never believed that I have something musical to offer or share, but still, it’s still my dearest dream…
