Thank you for providing this much needed video for the bed-sharing community as it is the most natural solution for those early weeks of life when exclusively breastfeeding baby who is co-dependent on Mama. Even those with separate surfaces will find that at some point, they will bed share with baby so educating all families with this information is super important.

Thank you so much for sharing. From day 1 back at home, I’ve been bed-sharing with my baby, just because I was so exhausted and she didn’t want to be left in her crib even right next to me. I felt guilty and started to research more about that subject, and there is not a lot of support, so I’m very thankful to all the moms that are sharing their experiences. It sounds like the best and most natural way to me and I’m glad I’m not alone ❤

I’m here not because I want to bed share, but because I’m feeling like I have no choice. I have an almost 2 week old that refuses to sleep unless he is held or near someone. 20 minutes of sleep a night is not something I could do anymore.

Same. I got a bedside bassinet thinking it would be great and it ended up being not only useless but a big pain in the butt trying to scoot out of bed! My baby only ever wants to be held :/ she’ll sleep on my chest and so I started propping myself up so that both of us weren’t going anywhere and now at 1 month, shes been sleeping 4-5 hours when we go to bed which is CRAZY. I have to wake up to pump, but she’s been just so content. If I didn’t sleep with her, I’d be getting no sleep at all 😢

I'm exactly the same. My son, 4weeks old won't seep in moses b or ntm crib at all. I'm terrified of sids and ppl keep telling me it's 50 times more likely even with him sat up right on me. I can't do zero sleep anymore. Even if I sleep in day time my body clocks off during night. I feel like no one gets it. All I here is it won't last forever and you'll get used to it. Well I'm not coping with zero sleep and I'm only 4 weeks in.

Such a good and important video Sophie, thank you so much for tackling such a tricky subject so well. With my first I was so fearful of cosleeping because of messaging I had received that I would sit for hours on end over night on the sofa with her. With my second- I safely coslept the first few months and she and I both got SO much more quality sleep and were both calmer because I was so intune and responsive to her needs. Instead of shaming mums about cosleeping- teaching safe cosleeping seems a much better route to me and I applaud you!

I’m from pakistan. In my culture bed sharing is a norm. People even sleep with babies till they are toddler, or till their children wants to sleep with mummy. And I have never heard of SIDS, or baby suffocating while bed sharing before internet showed me. And that’s exactly how mummies sleep with baby here. They don’t drink. Mostly exclusively breastfeed their little one. And everything said in this video is like a norm in my country. I used to wonder why such videos are made, because for us, this is normal, this is what everyone does. We as grown adult likes to sleep with our partners. I don’t know why west forces us to make baby sleep alone in their own bed although that tiny baby is the one who need someone to be held, someone to cuddle, even when he is sleeping I have been sleeping with my eleven month old form the day he was born. And these are the best sleeps. I snuggle with my baby. He likes to hold me and kiss me while sleeping. And breastfeeding is just so easy this way.

Thanks for sharing. I'm stuck on one of the safety rules that the mattress has to be firm in order for it to be safe. Do you find this rule is followed in your country? Or do people sleep with their babies on soft mattresses? I would think people use whatever matress they have available.

I’m from India and same! I’ve never heard of SIDS in India either. Doctors here have started recommending NOT bed sharing, which I find so odd. I tried putting my newborn in a crib but she just sleeps better next to me so I’ve stopped doing that. So many generations of kids have been brought up with bed sharing (including me!) so I’m just trying to trust the old ways and being careful. And to the commenter above-our beds tend to be on the harder side (at least traditionally in India) but modern beds can also be soft. And I haven’t heard of it being a problem.

Thank you for this video! I like the idea of tucking the blanket between your legs, but I would say that’s the only thing about this video that seems risky to me. The duvet you use seems too heavy. I would swap it for a light weight flat sheet just to be safe. Another thing I do is have a dim nightlight on so that I can see the baby’s position and just ensure everything remains safe throughout the light. I sleep on the floor in a twin mattress with the baby, so no bumpers needed. That’s a great option for those of you who might be worried about the baby falling. That has worked well for us. My husband stays in the big bed so he’s close by to help change diapers or hold baby if she’s extra fussy. Even if my baby rolled off the floor bed it would be a 4-5 inch drop so not a big deal.

I’d strongly advise a low bed our one is a low platform bed baby no2 rolls So much my 1st never fell off but 2 has. Maybe I just have a very rolly baby but I’d just advise that incase you end up with a baby like mine! Even though our bed is low I still Put a cot mattress next to it just so she lands on a soft surface and a rolled up towel under the sheets on the other side as a bumper.

@SophiePickles statistically, moms kill their infant more often than dads, so maybe we should put that in your video? No because that makes someone feel like a terrible parent that the odds of their child dying increases because of gender. I'm just saying alot of your viewers are men. Say "partner" if you want but we know you mean the men

In particular, Dr. James Mckenna who has studied cosleeping in many different cultures says that it is most safe for breastfeeding mothers to bedshare. I don’t know of any breastfeeding dads.

@@bbtbeatsbyt6601 I'm a dad my self and found her video perfect regardless of the gender she targeted. Let's be real here, this video is mainly targeting the mothers due to their capacity to breastfeed and therefore react to the baby's needs faster than a dad can say " I'll warm up the bottle of formula ".
