I have only played poker in a poker room about five times. I enjoy playing video poker much more. I only play the best-paying machines in the casino and I take advantage of the perks of the player's club . This allows me to come out as a winner, or very close to it. It's much better than playing slot machines, which most people do.

Well, it depends on how far you want to take it. There are professional gamblers out there who do make a living by playing in casinos. Most people don't want to study that much. By being a smart gambler you can learn how to play a fairly break-even game and take advantage of the casino comping system. It is the players who don't want to take the time to learn who will lose the most and, therefore, subsidize the play of the smart gamblers.

There is nothing in this video that says you will make millions of dollars playing video poker. What you fail to understand is that video poker is one of the better casino games. If someone wants to play in a casino, then video poker is the one game that can allow you to play at a break-even level, or at a slight advantage. The idea isn't to make a living at the game, the idea is to enjoy playing in the casino and have fun without it costing a lot of money.

OK. I would agree with that too. However, a player should also factor the players club benefits into the equation when determing their return on the machine. A player should learn how to analyze the players club to get the most benefits and those benefits should be added to the overall return. For example, you probably get cashback for your play which is a definite benefit, plus monthly free play offers? Those also add money to your return. It all adds up and should be included as a benefit.

I appreciate the honesty of your response particularly that your methods allow people to 'break even' or play alternatively 'at a slight advantage'. I was also heartened to read that gambling is 'not to make a living' and that the main idea was of having 'fun'. That has made your position clear to me and I apologize for my original questioning of your stance.

americancasinoguide but why do something in the hopes of losing? One could walk along the edges of an apartment building roof with the same thrill seeking in mind. I'm not wrong, am I? I marvel at the nature of playing to lose. I'll give it a try on my phone app for a bit. I'm rich on it I can afford to. No offence for, but justifying losing is way up there in my list where flat earthers are. It makes no sense to get a thrill out of balanced winning and losing. One should want to win more than want to lose. Just saying eh.

Well, you have to make your decision based on the best possible mathematical outcome to get the highest EV (expected value). Just because you have a chance to get a straight flush that doesn't necessarily mean that it is the correct decision to get you the best EV.

About 15, or so, years ago there was a team of players in the southern states who found a flaw in the double-up feature on video poker machines that allowed them to know the card that was going to appear. I believe they made sveral million dollars before the flaw was fixed by the machine's manufacturer. More recently IGT had another exploitable flaw in their VP machines, Google the term "video poker double-up flaw" to read more about it.

There are professional video poker players. However, most can't make enough profit by playing the games alone because it is getting harder and harder to find machines that pay over 100%. They can, however, make a profit by playing the games that are near 100% and combining it with a players club that has good cashback, bounceback offers, and comps.

I have never heard of a pay table changing in that manner. Were you at a video poker game that had multiple games available? If so, perhaps, you looked at one game intially and then looked at a different game when you sat down to play? Also, many times casinos will have different pay tables on the same game based on the denomination. The $1 game may be 9/6, but the quarter game may only be 8/5.

Gaming regulations require that video poker machines deal you cards randomly, just as if they were dealt from a shuffled 52-card deck. The cards you will be dealt is not decided until you push the "deal" button. Your skill in playing the cards will definitely affect the outcome in the long run. The better you play your cards, the better the return on the machine, in the long run.

americancasinoguide is this really true? Then a whole lot of video poker games are going to be easily caught cheating. Because they do. It can be tracked. Let me ask you, have you ever played a thousand hands of video poker by hand? It seems daunting right? People have the same phobia about reading the bible. It's so big you know? That's what they think while they are plowing through their huuuuge thick textbooks for university. With a phone app game, I can flip a game off every two seconds. About forty a minute. Ten minutes later I have nearly half a tjousand games logged. It keeps the stats for me how nice. Doing it by hand takes a little longer, that's true but not as bad as one might imagine. It reveals shocking truths. Especially if you do the one dumb mistake EVERYONE does playing this game to trigger the shocking change. Betting is definitely tied to the win rate, a direct correlation is consistently evident to me, over TENS OF THOUSANDS of hands over different recording times. I myself have accepted this and turned this weakness into a strength, and can trigger these games to "give" me lots of wins. I now am able to increase my number of wining hands per hundred by a sizeable percentage, that stays up consistently...now that I understand what is going on better. Get a game king version with penny chips on your phone and check it out. And then do a thousand hands by hand instead of computer. Go back and forth and you might not feel so sure to spout someone else's gospel of these games not cheating. Do they have proof of their words like I do mine? Just curious you know. Nowadays roulette tables are digitally wired right down to the digital motor. It's only a matter of time before those actually do cheat, they are able now that they are that digital. As for vid poker, try betting those hands you do by hand. Your spider senses will feel justified when you get wins unexpectedly like your mind screams at you should be happening. We all know that feeling. It's different playing by hand instead of computer program...it shouldn't be different at all right? Good luck checking out what I ask here.

Just go to the website of any gaming commission and read the regulations for video poker. You will see that they all require random cards to be dealt. I know many advantage video poker players who have been playing video poker for more than 25 years and not one of them ever thinks that the games are fixed in any way. They have all been successful by following mathematical principles and at the end of each year they have been ahead.

No problem. I think pretty much everyone knows that the casino will win in the long run. They just hope to have their money last long enough so that they can play for a while and have some fun. VP is a much better game to achieve this since the casino's advantage is less. For a nickel slots player the casino advantage is probably around 12%, but for a nickel VP play the casino advantage would be closer to 4%. The only problem is that VP takes some study and most people don't want to work at it.

  • @TheJackpotGents

Your chances would be 50/50. The casino has no advantage on the double down feature. On average, you should expect a royal flush about once every 40,000 hands, depending on which game you play. I have gotten about 10. Once I got two within 20 minutes of each other. One on a quarter machine and one on a $1 machine. The total win was $5,000, but I was partnering with my son so we split it. Also, one time I partnered with a friend who was dealt a $4,000 royal. About 650,000-to-1 odds!

I reside here in Southern California and go to a Indian casino regularly called Pechanga located in the city of Temecula. They offer a full pay 9/6 Jacks or Better that I play where i hold the highest card level. You have to determine which club has the best benefits for you. For example, if you travel a lot you probably want a club that has casinos in many locations and is generous with room offers. But, if you only gamble at your local casino you would probably want a club that offers good free play and food, or show offers.

Deueces Wild Bonus 99.45% ( straight flush pays 45 coins instead of the full pay version which pays 50 ) 3. Triple Double Bonus 9/6 which only returns 98 point something. ( The flush pays 6 coins for a flush and full pay version pays 7 coins on a flush ) I have a bankroll of $200,000. If I played the full play Jack's or Better for $25.00 a hand versus playing these 2 high volatility VP games Bonus Deuces Wild 99.45% and 9/6 Triple Double Bonus Poker with a lower denomination of $10.00 a hand. Question: If I'm playing a higher denomination of $25 00 or higher a hand on a full pay low volatility game like Jack's or Better versus a high volatility one with a lower denomination amount of $10.00 a hand with Bonus Deuces Wild and Triple Bonus Poker, which game would I have longer term profits with???

I have found that moving around a lot can help your winnings. A machine that is only taking and not paying needs to be left to sit a while. Jackpot hands usually come within a few minutes of sitting down. Don't stay at a machine that isn't paying. Move around like the bee until you find the flower with the nectar. If you can play good enough to stay close to the break even line, plus get the VIP check in benefits with the comp package, you're a winner in Vegas. Just focus on doing that and not so much on breaking the bank and you'll have a better time. Also, everyone knows gambling is a thinking art and booze gives the house more of an advantage. This is why it's free.

  • @sarjim4381

The only thing moving around does is reduce the total number of hands per hour played and reduce your chances of a royal. There's no such thing as a hot or cold VP machine as long as you're playing in a regulated state. Every hand is dealt from a fresh deck and is unrelated to the hand before or after. The only time you should move if it's something environmental, like the guy next to you blowing smoke in your face or sticky buttons. Otherwise, find a comfortable chair and machine and keep playing.

  • @tcfunvids

    @tcfunvids

Sar, I have to disagree. Many times a hand pay jackpot is hit within a few hands after beginning play. This is one reason to move around a lot, especially when a machine is not paying out.

There's no such thing as "many times" when it comes to VP. Every single hand is dealt from a new deck and every single hand comes from a pseudorandom number generator. There is nothing to be gained from moving to another machine, but you lose in hands played per hour. This is pure mathematics, and math doesn't care about your or my feelings. Do what I did for five years. Keep track of the number of hands played and results for every session. You can download apps for your phone that help you do this. That was about six million hands. On average, I hit a royal about every forty thousand hands. I hit them on my second coin in, my last coin in, and everything in between. I hit royals that were dealt to me and on just about every combination of holds you can think of except for one weird thing - I never hit one holding a singleton. Just shows how rare those are. There was absolutely no pattern to winning, just as you'd expect from random deals. Up to you how you play, but changing machines won't help you win.

You can yell about it all you want but it doesn't make you right. Just ask any VP expert if changing machines makes it more likely that you'll hit a royal. If one agrees with you, I'll admit you know better with your facts than what mathematics has told us about poker since the game was invented.

You want to make the max bet as you will be getting an extra bonus payout on a royal flush. If you only bet 1, 2, 3, or 4 coins the royal will only pay 250-for-1. If you make a five-coin bet, the royal will pay 800-for-1. Therefore, if you don't bet five coins you will lower the overall payback percentage on the machine.

There are plenty of things that people can learn in order to be a smarter gambler. All casino games have a mathematical advantage for the casino. Why make a bet that has a 17% house edge when you can make a bet that only has an edge of just a quarter of one percent? A smart gambler knows the difference.

I go down to dottys and occasionally play for a few minutes but I can sit endlessly and play but not win huge money. I did not know to look for 9-6 machines but I do now. as far as no limit holdem the wins decreased as I got older because I "APPEARED to the players like wise old poker player" so the action became less since any poker player does not want to play luck of the draw that to beat the old man you must get lucky plus he may throw scary tricky bets and doing "unusual things" I wish you could do one on LIVE poker and best times to play etc. but will go down today and try some video poker with new eyes and give it a try.

I'm curious about an Android online video poker game........ there are absolutely patterns embedded, wiping out any convincing idea that the deals and responses are based on random generation. There is an option to "double" your won amount. The sequence of results of "double" is nearly the same every time....... obviously pre-planned. When you choose to try the double, you are given the chance to pick a face-down card with a higher value. The first card may be a 3, the second a 9, the third a Q, then finally an A, which you'll never beat, of course. Of course there's some variety to that, but it couldn't be more obvious it's not random when most times your chosen card turns up as a 2......... I end up saying "gee, how did I know that 2....... I mean all 4 face-down cards were a 2?" It's really cheesy when you're given a 3 to beat and sure enough, there's that 2 again. And again. The OTHER part of this is when you do double your win but choose to deal a new hand instead, the next try for a double will begin with, of course, the next higher card in the previous hand's "double" sequence. It doesn't reset to start with a low card........ bad enough it's obviously not random deals. AND the higher the hand you win, the higher the "double" sequence starts....... win a straight flush? If you try the double, you get hit with a Q to beat. A higher hand's double will start with an A. They say that their coding is entirely based on odds....... well, programming odds is pretty standard in that business. Why they can't stick to RANDOM is hard to grasp...... I think the game has a streak of squeezing the player to keep hoping to the point of getting mad about it. It becomes less a game and more like extortion the farther they get from random generation.

I was at Mohegan Sun and checked many video poker machines and they were all set to 8/5 not 9/6. Finally, I found one that was set to 9/6. I sat down, but before I could put my player card in the slot, the machine changed to 8/5, like all the others. Can they change the payouts so quickly? Is it legal? It really disappointed me and made think less of Mohegan Sun.

What about payouts greater than "9/6"? I've seen "10/8" and even "15/10" machines. Are those better or worse than the recommended 9/6 machines? Also, the video poker machines I've been playing on arr Bally machines. I'm pretty sure I've made winning hands from following the strategy, but I'm not sure how to properly collect the winnings. Last night it highlighted that I got a straight, but it still said "Game Over". Are you supposed to collect the winnings before playing again?

The pay table any video poker machine can be analyzed to calculate its payback percentage. Generally, if a pay table is more generous than 9/6, then the payoff for two pair is usually reduced from 2-for-1 to 1-for-1. That reduced payoff for two pair is a very big reduction in the overall payback percentage. If you did that in 9/6 jacks, the payoff would go from 96.52% down to 87.07%. You can see a lot of video poker pay tables, and their payback percentages listed at vpfree2(dot)com

blaznpookie tens or better poker has for more winning hands but pays slightly less. So you win a lot more hands but get paid slightly less in fh and flushes. Jacks or better games have ten hands per hundred less winners than tens or better. But the low end hands pay the same, and that is where the more winning hands are.

I would agree that you will have more winning hands with tens or better. However, the problem is that it is not a common video poker game and it is hard to find. Also, the mathematical return for any game can be calculated and tens or better games have a 6/5 pay table, which is 6-for-1 on a full house and 5-for-1 on a flush. That lowers the overall payback percentage to 97.96% if 4-of-a-kinds pay 20, which is the usual case. Even if 4-of-a-kinds pay 25, which is hard to find, that only brings the return up to 99.14%, which is slightly below the 99.17% return on bonus poker.

The casino advantage on video poker is almost always less than 5%. If you use the double up feature you won't win more often. The casino has zero advantage on that feature. It's a 50/50 chance as to whether you will win or lose. However, you will not get any points on your players club card if you use the double-up feature.

Greg if you want to double up, I recommend tens or better poker, and as low a denomination as possible. Why? This is one of my strategies. Think about the number of single pairs jacks or better has compared to tens or better. It has to be less, simply because a pair of tens don't count. But they do in tens or better. This means more pairs, two pairs, 3 of a kind, fh, straights ( imagine holding onto the k, q, j, AND ten?!?! Firstly, any of them could be a pair, and you could get a straight. No chart I have seen EVER addressed this. Now these are cheap wins yes? I have a phone app game and it counts up all the winning hand types, and how many hands were played. If you do the same, you will see jacks or better has about thirty five per cent of hands, whereas tens has nearly FORTY FIVE!!! You need the high volume of cheap wins and here is how it works. You are starting with one chip. You won it back and you think big deal right? Not right. As in black jack, there are two points where you can increase your wager. Before and after the game has commenced. Now that the game is started, as in black jack, since you won and the game is not over until you decide to double or not, now you double. If you win, one chip becomes two. Two can become four. Or eight with a third double. I use 1 chip wins, to "eat up" losing double ups. After all, despite the value of the doubling, you DID only start with one chip. If I get a two time double, four chips, it pays for three times I lost a chip. Losing a pair double a few times in a row, means I could hope for a win by doubling. It happens but even more so, if the next time the win is more than a pair, say three of a kind or two pair, doubling this gives many chips. All because one burns up losing doubles with one chip, so you can feel you are due a win. This is effective more often than not. Glhf

I once went six months without a royal and almost nine months without a straight flush playing about five hours a day four or five days a week. That was just about forty five thousand hands, and I should get a royal about every forty thousand hands. In the next four days, I hit two royals and four straight flushes. My royals were almost exactly what i should have gotten in a little over forty five thousand hands, but I was still two short on the straight flush. In the long term, you'll revert to the mean. In the short term, any game can eat your lunch.

In order to make a living at the game you would really need to find a casino that is being over generous with its players club benefits. I found double bonus was the only game with a better than 100% payback and a strategy easy enough to allow you to maximize hands per hour. It's not just that though. If you smoke, you'll reduce your hands per hour and your income. Same with having to use the restroom a lot, drinking alcohol, looking at the cocktail waitresses, or needing to eat at regular intervals. It's a job. I enjoyed it while I was a semipro but it's still work.

Basically it's all luck and each game differs with it's rng set up I believe. I think it's based on a 52 card deck but with variations in the amount of 4 of a kinds within that particular machine. I can't say this for sure but I think some gamnes have more 2-pair-2 pair and f houses and some are blank blank______ then 4 of a kind hits. It's evens out to the same just with a different rng set up.

Keep in mind that all of the information in my video only applies to video poker machines that are licensed and played in a casino in a regulated gaming jurisdiction in the U.S. Also, it does not apply to gaming machines in New York at the racetracks, nor to Indian casinos in the state of Washington. Those machines work differently. Also, there are some Indian casinos in the U.S. that have Class II machines. Those games are based on bingo and also operate differently than the normal Class III video poker machines that you would find in a Nevada-type casino.

Social casino machines can use a function called "dynamic game balancing" which is designed to keep you continuously interested in the game. These games can allow you to win more if you have been losing and then make you lose more when you start winning too much. See more on this subject here - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_game_difficulty_balancing The "dynamic game balancing" feature would be illegal in a regulated U.S. casino.

I had a friend who had the idea of waiting until he thought a machine was ready to hit a jackpot, and then playing it. He ended up winning temporarily but his bankroll disallowed him from taking it further. He played Deuces wild. Is there any logic to that method, or was it just a coincidence? In another words, do these machines have a schedule for when they hit, like no one's hit the jackpot for some time, so the machine is ready to hit? He said that you could tell when it was about to hit by how the machine acted. Maybe combining that strategy with the one in this video could be successful?

That method would not be successful in video poker. Each hand is an independent event and it is as if the cards are being dealt from a freshly shuffled deck. The machine doesn't care what happened in the past. It just dealing a new hand each time you start to play.

joe doe why do you need him to tell you anything lol jyst use beating bonuses website. You can input the values and tell the exact payback percentage. Some casinos have progressives that can go over 100 percent but its usually dollar or more machines and that's a ton of risk.

+tryithere That hand is played correctly. You would always want to keep a low pair (2,2) over one high card (queen).

americancasinoguide Is it? When I learned to play, it was supposed to be better to keep the high card and take the 4 cards instead of 3 cards giving you a better chance of a high pair than getting 3 of a kind.

It's played correctly. On average, the pair of 2s pays back $0.82 on the dollar whereas holding the queen pays back $0.48 on the dollar. If you're playing $1 per hand, you're giving the casino $0.34 every time you make that mistake (on average, of course).

That is 8/5 Bonus poker. When playing Bonus Poker 8/5 is the best available pay table. When playing Jacks or Better, 9/6 is the best pay table.

With video poker machines, if you can't play 5 coins, be prepared to see jackpots that you could have had, but will never get. I have seen $ 2,000.00 pay outs reduced to $ 160.00, and $ 4,000.00 payouts reduced to $ 500.00. If you're happy with winning a few bucks, then you'll be fine playing less than 5 coins. As for me, I get disgusted when I hit a Royal Flush, or 4 of a kind with a kicker and only have 1 coin bet.

+prtbone78 I bring one with me all the time and I have never had a problem. You will only need to consult the card for rarer hands. It should be allowed by the casino as they will usually allow you to consult a strategy card at the blackjack table as long as you don't slow down the game. The worst case scenario is that they ask you to put it away.

If you're taking out $50,000 a night, someone will want to see that card. Otherwise, they would rather have players with strategy cards. They identify new players just learning the game and the house knows they'll make enough small mistakes that the odds will always be in their favor. The pit bosses ask a lot more questions of the guy who's playing 45 hands a minute and winning.
