How to become a respected ballet dancer | DW Documentary

In his village in Haryana, Pawan Kumar’s family wants him to get a job in a factory. But in his heart, he dreams of becoming something different, something “you don’t do as a man” - a ballet dancer. Making a living from ballet might seem unrealistic and gender norms discourage him from giving it his all. Internationally acclaimed choreographer Ashley Lobo invites Pawan to his studio in Mumbai to challenge Pawan’s idea of what being a ballet dancer really means. Can he really make it as a professional dancer? Through Ashley’s tests, he also gets to know the hurdles of the industry itself.
Find a job, have a family, make money - what if this is not your dream, but your parent’s idea and your community’s norms? To free yourself, go on a journey. With the help of your role model, you will find out: can you take charge of your own life and make your own choices? DW presents 'Choices: Dare to Dream'.

It's very difficult for a young person if your family doesn't understand or approve of your goals. It's even worse if your entire culture sees no value in it.

Idk why people think ballet is not masculine. I'd argue it's even more masculine than just pumping irons at the gym because ballet requires immense discipline, dedication, and commitment to engineer the human body to do amazing things. It's incredibly athletic and requires combination of mental and physical strength that no averge people can handle. He's got the drive and passion. He'll succeed.

And so does ballroom dancing. Any MAN that learns how to live beautifully and how to carry a woman in a dance is a heck of a MAN. Pumping iron is stupid. Have them cut wood. I head it burns the most calories of all exercises

It was a wonderful documentary coverage shared by an excellent DW documentary channel ... about someone struggles for gaining his dreams for becoming a ballet dancer's...Bellwood always introduces Indian 🇮🇳 peoples dancing in the street under heavy rains 🌧 as inherited manner ( reminding how much Bellwood movies 🎬 are acting far from reality of Indian population & their sufferings )

Ballet is almost like an abusive and manipulating girlfriend that you need to impress to keep their relationship even though it hurts you physically and mentally. I have seen people eventually quitting and looking for some other dance forms that are more natural and earthy.

This young man has NOTHING to prove to a male dominated society, there are a multitude of machismo males throughout the world who just don't get it, he isn't going to change their minds and that's ok....The dedication and passion comes from within , it is not a competition except with yourself and that's the beauty of Ballet !

I don't know much about India but why do they insert random words/phrases in English? Do they not have vocabulary for those words in Hindi (or whatever language they're speaking)? Also, when they shake their heads from side to side, do they mean yes or no?
