I'm 10 years into my IT career after changing from building houses and am now looking to move from being a sysadmin to a network engineer. There's so many resources available for people today. I think the key is to not let yourself get overwhelmed. Just stay focused and approach problems with a logical frame of mind and people will be amazed how much they pick up and retain. One massive get is to get hands on, virtualisation and low hardware prices means everyone has a chance to get hands on with different technologies. Good troubleshooting skills are transferable at all levels. Anyone watching this video thinking about making the switch to network engineering or another tech field, GO FOR IT!!!

Now in days companies (IT managers) are looking for the "jack of all trades". Companies want techs with networking, server experience, scripting, macosx, windows, and linux etc etc all wrapped up in one, especially if their infrastructure is locally managed.

Great vid mane....just want to say from my experience I've interviewed with companies that want the jack of all Trades Engineer......meaning they want you to know Data, Voice, Wireless, and Server stuff.....those type of positions I'm very leery of just due to the fact that HR may not know the true value of what they are looking for or don't know much about IT.....either way you maybe walking into a jacked up network that will come with a lot of stress and frustration.....sometimes it's worth the pay and sometimes it's not......but to each of his and her own, tread lightly when looking for that perfect opportunity to be a Network Engineer.

Very well said, when it came to education. This will be a personal choice. I have always set the goal and planned backwards. Once you get the plan complete, then you will have a starting point. Education choices should be made based on where you want to be, not what someone tells you to do. New technology do not change how things are done. It only provides different options. If I decided to deploy XVLAN, this does not mean that you do not have to learn how communication happens between two nodes. You want to get into the field, educate yourself. Anyone can get into any field. Me personally, I just keep learning, and keep chucking. If you chase the money, than you are chasing a ghost. Chase the technology and the money will come. However, you must plan your future and alter that plan when needed.

I hear a lot of the more experienced people talk about reverse engineering your path. Their experience though is creating a significant blind spots for entrants. In the beginning you just don’t know enough to have that level of clarity to create a path. I’m 18 months in. So I’m an example of a guy who recently did what you’re advising newbies to potentially do. In those 18 months, I went from SysAdmin I, to SysAdmin II, To NetAdmin II, to System Engineer I, to Network Engineer I, and currently Senior Network Engineer. How? I don’t know what an end looks like, I just focus forward on the primary current step and what’s directly in front of me. Clarity comes with activity, not prior.

Hey man how are you doing! Let me tell you my history, I got my Network+ and CCNA years ago after that, I started job hunting but never got a real offer. One day I ran into a post online from the army. They were looking for entry level network engineers(25N) I thought, well is not what I had in mind but it will pay the bills and I can get the experience that I need. At the end never got the job and I waited that time now I’m close to get out of the army and I’m trying again I’m even going after another certification Security+ to better my odds and even though I am struggling on getting a job cause I don’t have the experience yet, and I’m ready to get payed as entry level and even more do an internship. What do you recommend me brother!?

Well I'm doing a program at a university right now where each semester we prepare for cisco certs. So this semester we're preparing for CCENT, spring it will be CCNA R+S, summer its CCNA Security, then winter into the following summer semester we prepare for the CCNP R+S. I'm in the reserves, so I am in the process of re-classing to 25B MOS, which I believe would compliment my career path. Ive been learning more about the design track and it seems to make sense as it teaches about voice, wireless and security in designing scaled networks. So that expertise should serve me well in being a well rounded network engineer. What are your thoughts?

Jesus was born to a virgin, turned water to wine, taught, healed the sick, raised the dead, casted out demons, walked on water, and calmed the storm, among many other things. He was killed, and three days later He rose from the dead. Forty days later He ascended into heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father. He is returning very soon, but before He does, Satan, the devil, is coming to pretend to be Jesus. Satan is an angel, and he will have certain supernatural powers with which to try to fool everyone. He will, for example, be able to make fire come down from heaven in the sight of men. He will only be on earth a short time before the real King of Kings, Jesus Christ, God in the flesh, returns. When the real Jesus comes we will all be transformed into our spiritual bodies at the same moment. Jesus came to offer forgiveness of sins and eternal life to anyone who believes and calls on His precious name. For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; - Romans 3:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. - Romans 6:23 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. - John 3:16-18 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. - Proverbs 9:10

I came across this video looking for info on how to "be an engineer with NO experience", your title is slightly misleading because your video seems to be geared to anyone who is considering IT for a career. So from this video, I can believe you have no info for people who have gone to school but can't get a job without experience....
