    Actually, 95% of what happens in the NICU is wonderful and happy news. Imagine you get a sick baby and with your skills and knowledge, you get them better and send them home with the families. You are right, it is an ICU, so sometimes you get some really sick babies that don't make it, but those are fairly rare.

    One of my best friends just retired as the director of a Level 3 NICU. Amazing speciality. She has had such an impact on families lives. Saving our smallest babies. God Bless you all!!

    Great Video! So do neonatologists perform surgeries or is that only for pediatrics surgeons? Another question, is it possible to complete an neonatology fellowship if you completed a residency in OB/GYN or general surgery?

    Good question. No, Neonatalogist do not perform surgeries. Pediatric surgeons do. And most people do a pediatric residency before Neonatology fellowship

    As long as you have completed the prerequisites yes! Don’t feel restricted to the traditional sciences for undergrad

    What is the difference between what a neonatologist does and maternal-fetal medicine physician does? Both deal with critical care concerning babies so why are they considered two different specialties?

    Hey passionateberry an MFM is dealing with high risk pregnancy concerning the mother and a neonatologist is dealing with critically ill and premature babies.

    Not sure what you mean by “great!” Pretty much all Medical schools will give you good training and teach you what you need to become a doctor. I would choose medical schools based off of cost, feeling like you fit in, and support that you receive/can receive!
