Those guys always attack me all at once lol. I always ended up typing "how do you turn this on" thanks cobra cars

There's something off with this AI. I was playing with a friend against 3 AIs, and one of them totally obliterated the other 2 and had a massive army every time we tried going against it. Built castles like crazy and we didn't even dent their forces .

not sure what AI you play against, but my AI usually rushes me with an army at ~22 min, has multiple military buildings at this point, and there is no way I can avoid to building at least some military defense

Same here. Less than 40m game length the IA already has 100+ unit, i really don't understand

Yep. I usually play with 500 population and I get attacked by at least 200-300 troops at 25-35 mins in on moderate. It's almost impossible to defend even with my own decent sized army and walls and towers. I have survived the waves a few times but mostly they destroy me. I'm playing on AI HD version so maybe this is the new AI version he's playing on?

Yah it's about 75% of the time they have 30 or so crossbows harassing my villagers by 25 mins.

Yeah even standard tries to rush me but moderate hits hard second wave 40 army, knights skirms siege.

My brother and I went up against the Mayans and Aztecs on moderate 3 times last night... and 3 times they had a grand army and steamrolled us before we could even reach their civilizations.

it tends to rush me in feudal a lot. i know i just need to play better, but i am awful at microing my economy while also fending off their endless trickle of infantry spam at the same time, which goes from being a slow trickle to an absolute unstoppable tidal wave before long. I can usually survive into castle, but by that point they're so far ahead that the game was functionally over long before I ever clicked castle age.

Thank you soo much for this guide! I was having a hard time winning in moderate, only by building a wonder. The match I played after watching this felt too easy 😁😁👍🏻

My mistake was having I quarter of the villagers I should. I focused on building more TC as you suggested

Haven’t played in awhile but got the hang of it after a few games. Played with 5 AIs on moderate and the last remaining AI was impossible even after destroying so many of its military and resources. I depleted my resources and lost in the end lol

Idk why but at around 20 mins. , the moderate AI in AoE2HD sends a huge army and completely demolishes me. And I also tried to attack first in one game, but it already had too many troops ready to defend and again destroyed my army. Can it be that the AI is broken in HD? I haven't tried any other version tho.

Im having the same problem. I play with my father and my gf vs 5 HD moderate AI and as soon as they get to Castle Age they send us a massive army. We beat normal AI and CD with no struggle, but HD gets troops TOO FAST for us. Guess we capped our limit of difficulty by now

@@pedrolomarcussen9951 make makeshift walls from houses, get to cast age and drop a forward castle. That will stall them until imperial.

Thanks, I do love this game but the jump between standard and moderate is off-putting . I got friends to try this game and even being completely new they would win on standard but stood no chance on moderate so they stopped playing. Was either stomp or be stomped there's something missing there

The jump to Hard proves difficult as well. Makes it feel good when you pull it off tho

????? Wtf? I attack the IA much before than you and the same IA has a HUGE army and defeats me. Why your moderated IA doesn't even tried to defend It self, only sent some spear man? That's insane lol

im playing the classic steam version and its been a while, didnt played it since i was a kid, and i forgot how hard and awesome this game was, i cant stop playing right now, even with cheats im hooked up, want to install the HD version, but definitive edition just seems like another game, i prefeer the classic look tbh

How are you not getting attacked at all? I always get attacked very early in Moderate.

I'm not sure if they've tweaked the AI or something since this video was published cause it's the same for me. I always played on HD edition and recently decided to get back into the game and I upgraded to DE finally. The moderate AI seems to have this trickle tactic where it just sends constant units starting in early feudal, and the trickle becomes a steady stream by late feudal/early castle, and eventually becomes an overwhelming flood once it goes to imperial. I even tried drushing the AI, with success, but it seems to be able to bounce back almost instantly. I even tried to play it's own game against it and send my own trickle of units to constantly harrass it's vils, but it fights them off easy and still outpaces me and my economy raiding seems to have little to no effect. I understand people's accusations that the AI cheats. I know it doesn't cause I've seen that one vid with the guy who designed it explaining exactly how it works and that it doesn't cheat. But it's a little wacky that the moderate AI is capable of micro managing it's economy like an absolute pro player. I heard people say it's meant to be equivalent to roughly a 600 ELO player but I think if it is far more "skilled" than that.

He's watching a replay of the match. When you watch a replay there's no fog of war and you get all the info of all players. While playing, it would have been as normal, with fog of war. Not sure if you're joking or not though lol.

I feel like there is a huge gap in this game. Anyone can beat Standard without even trying as it takes ages to advance and barely builds an army. Then you step up to Moderate and suddenly it fast castles like a pro, builds massive armies and rushes you. You don't get a setting in the middle where you fight an AI that is still slow, but builds armies, or is fast, but doesn't build such massive armies. This makes natural progression hard, you basically get dropped of a cliff after Standard.

By the way, Moderate HD AI attacks at min 19. So he is playing even a easier game. Moderate almost every time attacks as soon as humanly possible. And then continues to attack never stops. Also building economy too of course.

@@enlil06peacemaker yeah you've got to both fast castle, wall up and head to booming, which is a bit of a challenge to new players who have just played against standard and could easily win. I get that moderate is forgiving of some mistakes, but it's still a handful...

Recently I've been playing some huge version (around 30GB), that is a combination of different versions, so I can choose not just the difficulty, but also the type of AI, I will play against (normal, cd version or hd version). The different type of AI performs differently with every different civilization and on different difficulty level, so I've been trying different combos lately. Even though, I am not as good as TheTitchUK (I don't even play online), I have lost only 1 (one) game on moderate (1v1) vs the Byzantyne AI (HD version) due to a sloppy play by me and an early rush and (later) irritating exploit by the said AI. I took a vengeance in my next games, crushing the Byzantynes HD with max population + castles and bombard towers, beating the hell out of them pretty much every time. So what do you find so hard? If a noob like me can do it, then you can do it too! If you know that there might be an incoming attack, just get some army out as soon as you hit the castle age button, and add some more advanced units once you get to the castle age (it is important to get there about as fast or at least almost as fast as the guy did in the video). Redirect several villagers to stone, and get a castle before your third TC, if you scout an incomming rush. As I am a weak player in my 30s (not having the same reflexes as 10 years ago), I also build university for the murder holes and (later) balistics. I build an wooden wall / houses infront of my castle, and I get a couple of siege units to deal with the enemy rams, and this gives me the time to breathe and to boom similarly to how the author of the video did. Again - I am not as good as that guy, in fact today was the first time that I manage to max under 50 min mark - with Bulgarians against the Turks (cd version) on hard difficulty - and I still had to advance to imperial age as far I remember or maybe it was about half way done. So, if you practice a bit you will be able to do it at least almost all of the time too. Which civilizations do you play? I might be able to help a bit, sharing my own toughts /experiense, if you want me too (and of course, if I can help). A useful tip: As you can see in the video, the player is on casual speed, which is a bit slower than the normal. Better don't try to play on fast from the start - I tried it and it is too hard for me to cope up with army control + building stuff + getting more workers / units. It might be better to start on casual, then to get it up to normal and later (if you want) up to fast game speed. Hope that helps. Whenever I play moderate I get absolutely decimated at the 24 min mark. could that be because the AI recognizes I'm behind and decides to attack? Because they didn't do anything to you

I'm not sure if the AI does recognise score, however as this play through was on a more enclosed map it's less likely to see an early attack, especially if you wall it off early. So I would suggest walling areas off before the 24 minute mark and have military prepared as well. I hope this helps 👍

I started to play this game for a while. AI is playing completly different game to game. I can say there is no moderate. Moderate did nothing in one game and other game crushed me with endless knights.

@@enlil06peacemaker Black forest is a great map to get used to moderate. Wall up early, boom while making archers for defense and them start sending small batches to harass their lumberjacks, minors and anyone out of range of the TC while avoiding confrontation as much as possible. While they are defending, start spamming something stronger with 2-3 trebs or rams to take out defensive buildings and it should be a piece of cake. The key is don't let them attack first or you'll be on your back foot and getting the lead back will be a struggle. Hope this helped!

It doesn't cheat anymore, but it used to. I think it did at the time this video went up but there's an interview with the guy who designed the DE ai and he explains it doesn't cheat and talks about how it works. It's just a freak at managing resources, far better than any moderately skilled human player imo. I wish it was toned down just a bit. I want something between standard (which I stomp easily 100% of the time) and moderate (which stomps me easily 100% of the time) so I can learn how to play better without just smashing my head against a wall. Something just a little more forgiving than moderate but still more aggressive than standard would be nice.
