the bangers I play use topspin and almost never hit out the newer type of banger is not an inexperienced player now they are mostly tennis players that understand spin and are able to keep balls from sailing so a new tactic is required I try to return at their feet as often as possible but in truth many times I am just able to block it right back to them to repeat the cycle Having fast hands . reflexes is a must when playing skilled bangers in todays game

I agree that a player a hard hit ball with topspin from the baseline will most likely stay in. But the more the player moves inside the court, the higher the chance the ball will go out. Very few balls hit from the position tony is in on the court will stay in, topspin or not. Next time your favorite banger comes a few feet into the court, let a few go. If they stay in then you know you need to block. My guess is you will be surprised at what learn.

I choose to 1) give all balls to the 'weaker or the two'. 2) Try to give returns to the back hand 3) let the ball go out , 4)Learn to move back a step or two to 'reset a drops'. And 5) play the net dinks as soon as possible.

All of those strategies can be helpful. One consideration on hitting to the backhand that often it bring the lines into play which means less margin for error.

Its good to hit hard and play aggressive when the time comes, thats whats expected of you as a player. Only wimps hit soft the whole time.

Just to be clear we never said don't hit it hard. If a player won't let a ball go out, we'll hit it hard all the time.😂

Not just at your head. If the player is in the middle of the court and they hit the ball hard, a ball at your mid section is very likely out.

How do know when ball is going out?

It's a learned skill but in general a ball hit from at or near the baseline likely stays in. The more the player comes into the court the higher the chance it goes out. In general anything hit hard, chest level is out.

Best way to beat a banger is to be one. Learn the topspin drive and get fast hands. Bangers are the future of pickleball!! I love driving my fellow dinkers mad when they can't play their dinking game around me and the confusion on their faces when I hit shoulder high and it lands in. Best feeling in the world!!

It's much easier for most players to simply learn to stop hitting out balls than it is to learn to bang. If If banging worked with every level of players the pros would never hit a dink.

@@BetterPickleball It depends on what you consider banging. Obviously hitting every ball hard is not going to get you very far but there are many pro pickleballers now that you might consider "Bangers" because their go to is to hit hard drives and speedups. For example Anna Leigh Waters considers herself a "banger" style player. Hitting hard topspin drives works on every level of pickleball and is becoming more popular as well as 3rd shot drives instead of 3rd shot drops.
