    Very good presentation of visa issues for employment in Switzerland for non-Swiss workers. You may want to add the "intra-company" visas that are available for people who have worked for a company outside the EU for at least one year and are transferred to their fully owned Swiss subsidiary - provided they can proof that they have special skills that are needed to transfer knoweldge from the "Mother Company" to the Swiss subsidiary.

    Fortunately I recovered the EU citizenship in 2006 having a passport from Slovakia. The situation that I faced in my work search in Germany 2009 was a shameful experience. I decided in 2014 to include the information in my profile of LinkedIn about the shameful experience in Germany because there are no words to justify the legal uncertainty, scorn and corruption that I experienced in Germany by the government authorities. Switzerland is the only country in Europe that guarantees respect and legal certainty following the laws. I speak Hochdeutsch as native pronunciation and my secondary languages are Spanish and English. Thanks Iris very much for the information.

    This is super helpful! I’m curious about more specifics in terms of attracting the attention of Swiss companies with my resume/CV amongst other questions. I’d love to ask you some specifics if you’re open to it! Totally understand if you’re not. My wife and I have looked loosely at moving to Europe for some time now. We’re from the U.S. and we’re looking for just a bit of a different pace of life. I work in Tech and my Wife works in finance. It’s hard to know where to even start with all of this!

    @iris-tabea

    Hey there :) I'm glad the video was helpful! Sure, shoot your questions :) I don't know if I will be able to answer all of them because as a European citizen the regulations are different but let's see! In terms of attracting the attention of companies, just send your resume/CV to some companies you find interesting. I also heard that in Switzerland, if you are looking for a job, the services of employment agencies don't cost you any money - they will match you with companies that could be a good fit and if they decide to employ you, the company pays the employment agency for their services. (I've heard that from multiple friends who work in HR but better double check on that just to be sure). Do you speak German? In case you don't, I just quickly want to mention that you should not be discouraged by that, most Tech companies have international teams with people from all over the world. In my previous job, the company language was English :) I know that most tech companies in Switzerland are struggling to find people so don't be shy and just give it a try by sending them your CV!

    @@iris-tabea That's super good to know! I don't currently speak German, but I just recently started learning. That's good to know that there's still a fair amount of opportunity for soely english speakers. So my biggest questions at this point are related to cost of living. How much income (in CHF) would need to be made in order to live comfortably in a city like Zurich for example? What's a typical monthly cost of a modest appartment with utilities? We'd likely like to purchase a home at some point if possible. Do you know if forigners can purchase realestate? I read somewhere that there's several limiting factors to forigners who wish to purchase realestate. What's a typically salary range for a software engineer? I'm a motion graphics and video production specialist myself, but I know here in the U.S. my salary is typically on par with a mid-range software engineer. Not sure if that same comparison could be made in Switzerland, but I'd imagine it's somewhat similar. Thanks for being willing to answer some questions! This is much more insightfull than Googling haha.

  • @iris-tabea

    @iris-tabea

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@cameronperry8446 I wish I could help you out with your real estate questions but sadly I don't know anything about this 😅 In regards to your question how much income you would have to make to be able to live comfortably - that depends a lot on what comfortable means to you :) I was renting a small room in a shared apartment with 2 other roommates because I wanted to save money and I also didn't know anyone when I moved there. But I never looked into how much renting a whole apartment for myself would cost because for me that was never the plan :) I'm sure a quick google search can help you with that! In terms of salary range it is best if you check out Glassdoor.com to get a rough idea what you could be making in motion graphics and video production - I can only speak from my personal experience as a junior software engineer (right out of university, 3 previous internships: 84k CHF). Obviously different companies pay different salaries and it depends on the experience level, I assume most of the time a mid-range software engineer would make more.

    Hi, hope this message finds you well. i am a junior software developer and i am looking forward to move to Switzerland. I am also from the EU like you, so i have to follow similar paths like you to achieve residency. I just have some questions that I would really really appreciate if you could answer. If i move to Zurich, which part of Zurich can i get a decent 2-3 bedroom apartment which is decent in price to rent? Also, besides the taxes that are needed to be paid, what other expenses are also mandatory? For example i hear that social security and health insurance is a must and is mandatory, and i would like roughly to know how much these cost? For instance, is it the more money you earn, the more you need to pay, or the same for everyone? If so, approximately how much is it per month? Besides that, great video and hope to hear from you soon.

    Hello, thks for the nice videos :).I am an EU citizen planning to move to Switzerland and I have a simple question: How long does it take to get the residence permit with presumably having the job offer from employer and the rest of compulsory documents.Also, can you start working while you are waiting for the Residence permit or do you get residence permit the same day you applied? Thks a lot in advance.

  • @iris-tabea

    @iris-tabea

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey there! You will get the residence permit the same day you apply for it, the process of showing the officials your work contract, rental contract and passport literally takes 10 minutes. It takes a couple days until you get the actual card though, but in the meantime you have a confirmation in paper form. Even if you don't apply for the residence permit right away, you technically are allowed to start working already. EU-citizens can stay in Switzerland for 3 months visa free. The only thing that might stand in your way is the fact that often, companies will ask for your swiss social security number, which you will not be able to provide unless you already have the residency permit and health insurance. I guess it depends on the company you work for if you can start working without it already. My company said it was fine and I should just let them know as soon as I get my social security number.

    If you are a EU citizen the process should be quite smooth For non EU you better be highly skilled and have an employer to sponsor you Tip: it's very expensive here Whatever you think is a good wage, double or even triple it to live in Switzerland

    Hello, i'm interested in becoming a psychologist and working in Switzerland. If i were to come there for my masters and learn one of the official languages, do you think i have a chance? Are psychologists in demand there? Do you know if there're non eu psychologists there? Please let me know if you can, it would be very helpful for me, thank you.

Because she went to a office and they just gave her a family permit forum A2 forum. ?? Do I have to have a visa before I arrive on Switzerland and then when I get there my boss applies for a work permit in my name. Hello, dear Iris, could you please tell me what are the 5 or 10 characteristics that one should consider when choosing a canton? Aiming to get residency and in the future a Swiss passport for a doctor And among these German-speaking cantons, which one is suitable for an Iranian to at least enter there? For example, the components that I know myself; Lower taxes, easier to give B residence, and easier to convert to C residence and cheaper food and health care available... Consider that I have a Blue Card and permanent residence in Germany and registered as a MD., my first goal is to get C residence in Switzerland. And my final goal is, the Swiss red passport, and living in Swiss. Thanks Here's a subjective ranking from perceived easy to hard about cantons, which l knew them: Appenzell Innerrhoden: This canton is often considered to have a straightforward naturalization process, especially if you have lived there for a long time and integrated into the local community. Appenzell Ausserrhoden: Similar to its sister canton, Appenzell Ausserrhoden is also known for having a relatively straightforward naturalization process compared to larger cantons. Schwyz: Schwyz is known to have a relatively straightforward naturalization process for those who have been living there for a substantial period and meet the integration requirements. Glarus: Glarus is another canton with a naturalization process that is perceived to be less complex than some larger cantons. Uri: Uri is a smaller canton, and naturalization procedures may be more straightforward compared to larger urban cantons. Obwalden: Obwalden, being a smaller canton, may have a simpler naturalization process compared to larger ones. Nidwalden: Nidwalden is also known for having a relatively straightforward naturalization process for eligible applicants. Appenzell: Both Appenzell Innerrhoden and Appenzell Ausserrhoden are considered to have simple processes, but some sources suggest Innerrhoden might be slightly easier. Basel-Stadt: Basel-Stadt may have a straightforward process, especially for long-term residents who have integrated well. Schaffhausen: Schaffhausen is known to have reasonable naturalization procedures compared to some larger cantons. Thurgau: Thurgau's naturalization process is generally considered manageable. Fribourg (Freiburg): Fribourg's naturalization process might have some specific requirements, but it's generally regarded as reasonable. Solothurn: Solothurn's naturalization process is perceived to be somewhat more involved compared to some smaller cantons. Basel-Landschaft: Basel-Landschaft may have a slightly more complex process compared to Basel-Stadt. Aargau: Aargau's naturalization process might involve more requirements compared to some smaller cantons. Zug: Zug's naturalization process may have more requirements compared to some smaller cantons. St. Gallen: St. Gallen may have a somewhat more involved naturalization process compared to smaller cantons. Bern (Berne): As one of the larger cantons, Bern's naturalization process might involve more documentation and requirements. Zürich (Zurich): As one of the largest and most populous cantons, Zurich's naturalization process may have more requirements and take longer to complete compared to smaller cantons. Graubünden (Grisons): Graubünden's naturalization process can be more complex due to its unique multilingual character and additional requirements for language proficiency.

    Hi there! Thanks for commenting, I’m glad the video was helpful ☺️ How high the taxes are depends on which canton you are living in, each canton has a different number so there is no general answer to this :) the easiest way to find out is if you just google by canton. hope that helps!
