Making a new video and you get to decide which one!!!
Many of you already know that we put out the new album just a short while ago. Thank you all for supporting it... we've gotten some incredible reviews and wonderfully positive feedback. I really love this album. I love it so much that I couldn't decide on which video to make next. See where I'm going with this yet? We opened with a video of "For Many" and are now considering which piece should follow it up. In all likelihood this will be the last video I produce (They're an increasingly expensive commitment with no monetary return... I do them because I love doing them... just can't afford to keep doing them.) So with all of that out in the open I want to invite my fans to make this decision. Your support has meant so much over the years and I'm often asked why I haven't done a video for this piece or that piece... trust me I would do videos for all of them if I could. How it breaks down is this. We're going to release the album on KZread and Soundcloud. Two tracks per week with just a static image of Scott Waters wonderful cover art. When all of the pieces are finally online voting will begin on www.shanekoyczan.com.
There'll be a list of the tracks and each visitor will be allowed to cast their vote for the piece they'd most like to see made into a video. Please keep in mind that we don't have access to grants and are not crowd funding this project. Our budget is a modest 8k which I pay for myself. So please don't expect Michael Jackson's Thriller. Another angle to this little tidbit is that we will be accepting submissions from creators who might be interested in making the video. Animators, graphic designers, filmmakers... Pixar... whoever you are... If this is something that interests you and you believe you can work within the budget... it's all yours. Submit some of your work to submissions@shanekoyczan.com; the band and I will go through and decide which style we'd like to see applied to the chosen track. Something you should consider before making any commitments is that the 8k is in Canadian funds, which is currently laughable outside of Canada, so I hope you're up for a challenge. If you do feel like cushioning the meager budget you can make a pledge on my Patreon page / shanekoyczan . This will likely be the first and last project I release via this site but every penny helps. Okay... I've talked your ear off long enough. Hope you've all been making beautiful steps toward your bliss in this new year. Hope to see you all in it.
Cheers, Shane

At the end of all his poetry, I can never help but mutter, "wow." The degree of wisdom within every word of his works is something truly beautiful. I am thankful and honored that I have the ability to indulge in Shane's works and to absorb the wisdom of his words. :)

This inspired me to write a three page love letter to my girlfriend. It's just a random day, at a random hour, but Shane writes so beautifully of love that I simply couldn't contain my feelings any longer and had to articulate to her, for no apparent reason, that I love her. Why should I need a reason? Shane is one of my heroes

How to be a person: 1. Find your voice, know that not all languages contain words, your voice could be music it could be dance, it will be what expresses you most sincerely, your voice, is an art, if your heart is broken, make art with the pieces. 2. Remember that you are an artist, regardless of how constantly the world will try to drive it out of you or how a "real job" will try to bury the part of you that communicates your feelings when language fails, you, are an artist. Whether it's with food, or building robots, you will know your medium the instant you realize how in love you are with what it brings out of you. 3. Apologize, you will not always be right, you will not always be wrong, you will hopefully always be learning, atonement is a sacrifice of pride, explanation of why you did what you did or said what you said will not vindicate you, if the cost to heal someone is only your pride, then apologize and be grateful that you received peace at such a bargain. 4. Forgive, realize that some people are still learning, if forgiveness is not possible then think of everything you have ever wanted to be forgiven for but weren't, hold that uneasiness in your mind until you feel your desire for absolution becoming a wish, realize you can grant this wish for others, if you are waiting for forgiveness, be prepared to wait, be prepared to stand in the path of time and wither, respect that forgiveness, is difficult, not all trespasses are equal, and not everyone will heal according to your schedule. 5. Accept that farting, is funny, granted, not always appropriate, and sometimes unpleasant, but if you cannot laugh, if you are more offended by a fart, than by war, famine, political corruption, deforestation, racism, sexism, classicism, the wrongfully imprisoned, the treatment of women, the foreclosing on homes while banks debts are forgiven, if a fart offends you more than any of that, then you are not a person and cannot be helped, join a cult, have some koolaid. 6. Know that love, is a vulnerability, but not a weakness, love is the volunteer in you that raises it's hand and steps forward without needing to be rewarded, love is a currency that functions in reverse because the only way to be wealthy with it, is to give more of it away. 7. Don't laugh to fit in, laughter, should be honest, if there is no sincerity in your joy then your happiness will be a forgery that fools only yourself. 8. Do not fear to be hated, but be cautious towards those inhabited by hate, you will be hated, regardless of who you are what you say or what you do, you will be hated for your successes or your failures, for good looks, bad looks, for intelligence or stupidity, hate, is the child of the hater, nurtured by the beliefs it is fed, you often will have no control over what you are hated for, know that antipathy, becomes the master of it's owner, know that if you are going to be hated regardless of who you are, then be fearless enough to be who you want to be, hate is, no more eloquently articulated than in the poetry of the expression, "Not your fuckin' problem". 9. Try... the tiniest dream that you try to make happen is worth more than the biggest dream you never attempt. 10. Be savagely thankful, and continuously in awe at the power you possess, you are alive, inside of an endless cosmos with a freedom that shines brightest in the dark, choices, your choices, belong to you so intimately, that they will never leave you, they, are like the changing nature of love where the failing machinery of our bodies will abandon never you to time, good or bad they will stay always, an antique, that shows the future of who you were and what you stood for, so know that what you choose to stand for, is what will inform you of what you've chosen to stand against, so stand! let each foot crash land into what you believe, then plant them there firmly, so they may take root in your convictions, and stand.

When i was 14-15 I used to listen to Shane's poem everytime I had panic attack, everytime I was sad just to calm myself. I was a student who was really stressed out by school, grades, people. My social anxiety was so bad and I used to stay at home studying, proving to my teachers, classmates, family that I'm enough. That's must sound stupid but poetry made my anxiety and depression less suferable. Right now I'm 18 and I have problems more important than studying or class in general and I always come here when I need motivation, advice in life.
