How to Be A Naturalist | Artist Nature Study 🐚 🌊 🌱 🍄 🌿
I created this video to help other artists learn how to become a naturalist! While I've had lots of inspiration from many places and people to be a naturalist--I have been most inspired by the book Writing Wild by Tina Welling. It's helped me become much more in tune with nature, make deeper observations about the world, and appreciate my surroundings more. The book is geared towards writers and getting outdoors to get into a writing flow. But over the years, I've adapted my own way of observing my natural surroundings as an artist through sketches and paintings.
So follow along with me as I explore the Washington Coast and make a nature study sketch. I'll show you my process and how I keep my art observations simple and easy to get started! There's a free PDF down below if you'd like to use a printable version. But you can also just grab a sketchbook, pencil, or any art supplies and head out into nature too.

Oh my goodness! That's so funny! I will add that to my nature notes about it and see if I can find out if they are local to certain beaches or whatnot! So cool 🤩
What a beautiful atmospheric beach. The fog and the lighting were stunning 😍 I'd not heard the term sea dollars before. Are they fossilised sea urchins? Thanks for another wonderful video Jaclyn ❤

You're the second person to say you haven't heard of sand dollars before. 😯 Now I am definitely going to look up more about them and see if they are local to the beaches here in North America and more about where it got its name. I love nature and finding out cool things don't you?!

@@jaclynbaerart I love it too and I meant to write sand dollar not sea dollar 🤦♀️😄 Maybe its an American term. I think in Europe they are called thunderstones. Its funny how different parts of the world have different terminology.

I haven't done anything outdoors and I'm not that good at drawing but I'm going to try, I got a small watercolor pallette recently and and so far I've just been mixing colors and filling in small doodles at home. I do like to collage and journaling, I live travelers notebooks, I post journal spreads on my insta, I want to get into painting I just don't know where to start really haha.
