How to Batch Edit in Photoshop

In this tutorial, I'll show you how to record your editing steps into a Photoshop Action, and then use "Batch Automation" in Photoshop to run that Action on multiple photos.
Batch editing is a great technique to help speed up your editing workflow and ensure that your entire series of photos has a cohesive appearance. This can be especially helpful when creating albums or canvas groupings.

Great information! Do you normally retouch before batching or after?

Good tutorial, but seems like I can't work with raw files to do this batching. Am I bound to work with Bridge to do the batch editing for raw files?

I do use Bridge, but I also batch process my RAW files by selecting a series of them to open in Adobe Camera Raw as well. Then, once I finish processing there I pull them into Photoshop to batch with the method in this video.

Hi! I'm trying to batch edit a couple of my images, but for some reason it keeps saying "_____ command is unavailable" for some of the actions I've recorded. Is there anything I'm doing wrong?

Hi! Great question! It's hard to say what the exact reasoning for the error message is without seeing which steps are recorded into your actions and which command the error message says is unavailable, but it sounds like one of the Actions is trying to run a step that's not possible on the images you're batching. For example, sometimes this happens if a step like "Select Background Layer" is recorded into the Action, but your background layer on your current document is actually called 'Layer 0'. Photoshop is telling you that some step in the Action is not computing with your current images. If you want me to see if I can help figure it out, send me an email at morgan@morganburks.com with a screenshot of the error message, and a screen shot of your Actions panel with that specific action's individual steps/commands open and visible. I'd be happy to take a look for you!

Great question! So they're called Photoshop Actions and they're basically a series of pre-recorded editing steps that you can "Play" on your images to recreate the effect. The Autumn-colored actions I used in this video can be found for free on my site here: bit.ly/FreePhotoshopActions And 'Boathouse' is one of the Actions in my One Fell Swoop Collection, which can be found here: bit.ly/onefellswoop

In lightroom we can do color correction, grading and stuff and then apply immediately though all the image we want, but sadly i dont have lightroom desktop But in photoshop, for example im shooting raw So whenever i open my image It first open camera raw and I usually color correct first How do I apply this batch action like yours including the color correction in camera raw ? So i dont have to collor correct one by one for example if im having 1000 image its gonna be crazy

Great question, Michael! You can open multiple photos into Camera Raw and apply settings to them all at once. Here's an older tutorial I made that shows how: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z6mHs81pnaSzftY.html
