    Sweet! I’ll be doing broadhead tuning here in a couple weeks before I head out for September hunts 👍🏻

    I was always told to set your center shot where your arrow is running through the center of your riser and then you bare shaft tune using your yolks or shimming the cams.

    You are correct on the tuning part. Most compound bow center shot is 13/16 from the inside of the riser. Then yes ypu should shim cams and yoke tune as much as you can and move the rest micro to finish it off 👍🏻

    Thats how ive done it for years also. Doesnt matter what head you put on now, itll fly straight. People say fixed blades dont fly but thats bullshit. They dont fly if the arrow comes off sideways 😂

    It's best to nock tune your arrows before bare shaft tuning. Just turning your nock can eliminate a significant tear and a lot of the time it doesn't correlate with the spine at all.

    Nice job, nice clean content, and would also like to hear about what setup you’re using, ie-(bow, arrows, rest, strings,etc) and also even short back story of setting, place and time, always cool to see who’s where and doing what, keep it up, send em’! 🏹

    I’m getting a bit of a nock high bare shaft tear in the paper would raising the rest some correct that?

  • @j2carchery

    Yes that is correct. However if you have to raise it more than just a smidge you should retie and move your Dloop down. Good luck!

    Do I need to do this with every arrow change? Currently I’m using a GT hunter 400…. And I’m wanting to switch it up to a “high end” arrow in the excess weight of 500+grains when built…

    Yes I would recommend it. Even if you keep the spine the same which will be your biggest factor in tuning, changing the weight up from out back and the gpi of the arrow COULD all have factors in the tuning process for your bow set up. Just a piece of mind when changing arrows that is worth it!

    Great video for guys without the equipment but id highly recommend swapping out the top hats instead of moving from exact center shot i just seem to have better success when it comes to broadheads later on when i start from 13/16 but both ways will work i just don't like my rest not being at 13/16 my phase 4 is 1/4" left of center shot if i tune it with factory top hats i moved to mid size and its 1/2 line from 13/16 so thats why i buy a pack anytime i upgrade

    Totally agree with you. Moving the rest should be a micro adjust (as it was here for me, I only had to move a minimal distance) I like to start here with the bare shaft tuning then if I am way off head up the top hats as you mentioned, then back to paper to make the fine adjustments. Thanks for your comment! PS. - I want to say how much I appreciate the comment in the form of a conversational statement to discuss about instead of a "hey you are an idiot and didn't talk about that" Can't show all 489 things that go in to every part of archery in one 10 minute video. Chances are most comments from most knowledgeable people like yourself are correct, I just wasn't specifically talking about that portion of the archery spectrum in this video. So thanks for giving me a chance to explain and agree with you! Seems like everyone so far on KZread has done this (there will always be some bad apples) but I run in the all the TikTok coaches on that platform, so this comment was refreshing, so thanks! Instead of changing your center shot, why not tune it in by moving your cams?

  • @j2carchery

    @j2carchery

    100% an option that you could do. I like to start here with bare shaft tuning through paper. Then if I am not getting the results I need out of tweaking the rest, then I would back up and move the cam. But I have no reference point if I just move over the cam to begin with.

    That was 6 yards or 6 feet?

    Should be 6 feet. Misspoke in the video. But yards would be too much. My mistake. Thanks for your question.

    Your rest should be dead center in line with the string, that is how you tune a bow. Paper tuning is not necessary. You know how I know? 2 weeks of archery and I know everything. You want a second opinion? Ask me again.👍
