How to Bait Gankers with an Alpha Clone

Ойындар

Here is a brief video tutorial on how i have been occasionally earning some iskies this new year. It involves being smart with your fitting and cargo.
Yes eventually the gankers will add you to a 'don't bother list'...but whats the worst that can come of that...you get to fly the trade lanes with whatever you want to because most of the gankers won't even scan you anymore.
I'm currently having trouble getting a scan in Jita as i've been the cause of the loss of 27 Nado's this month. But thats the beauty of this system, it can be done with an Alpha clone with relatively few skills.
I hope you have enjoyed this video and learned something.

    This is in hisec. What is happening is that the gankers will scan your cargo but not your fit (ship scanner can be unreliable for split second decisions as it can sometimes not show any modules at all). If they feel they can take your ship based solely on the hull type, and your cargo is sufficient to justify the risk, they will try to gank you. When they do so in hisec they get flagged criminals, gate/station guns will open fire and Concord will show up in 10-20 seconds. At Jita 4-4 for instance, gankers generally use Tornados because you will only get a couple of seconds to shoot the target. And since I am prepared for this with a very tanked hauler (and some faction modules to help beef it up a bit), I actually get disappointed when I haul stuff around or leave station and don't get scanned. If you want to get super cheesy you can fit a small turret on your hauler and start locking them back when they scan you, so that once they make the choice to fire you might have finished locking them and can at least get on the killmail.

    I spent two days trolling around in a Nereus and tried to get a ganker to attack me outside Jita, at most my cargo value was 2.5 b. Still no one have tried attacking me. So do you warp between certain locations or fly in a certain manner to get them to attack?

  • @hikingphotog

    @hikingphotog

    7 жыл бұрын

    I'd either align to the NC gate or initiate warp towards that gate...i don't know what to tell ya man, it obviously worked for me. If nobody is targeting you then it doesn't matter what is in your hold. But if gankers ARE targeting you then dropping lock, that means they have determined you are not worth it, and if they see you repeatedly doing the same thing they will flag you and spread your name around their community. I'm sure my name has been spread far and wide at this point. Try using a different ship on a different account. Personally i haven't seen many actual gank nado's watching the undock as of late, could just be my timing lately i don't know. Undock in a regular ship, and look up the killboard history of any nado's that seem to be camping. If they have mostly pods or other combat type ships primarily, then they are not looking to gank haulers. It will be obvious if they are looking for haulers to shoot by their kill history.

    Basically, he makes money by selling the kill rights of the ones attacking him. Kill rights are “permissions” CONCORD gives you to kill this people wherevere you find him. Because he is attacked unprovoked, he gets killrights, even if he survived. He then sells those killrights to whoever wants to pay. Generally the very same gankers pay up, so they can undock and continue ganking.

  • @hikingphotog

    By forcing them to use a ship scanner they have to sacrifice either a tracking or scan res, which can reduce their chances of a successful hit. Ship scanners also aren't very accurate, sometimes only returning 1 or 2 modules on a full layout, requiring a 2nd scan, at which point the target is probably already in warp. Another missed opportunity. The only real change I've seen is in general there have been fewer nado's ganking on station than there were before this video started making its rounds. Checking the KBs for a lot of my victims shows they aren't really hitting as many haulers anymore. The wardec never came, even after I baited the same guy the next day with a different character into failing on a triple nado hit. Shame he spent all his money buying new ships and paying off his own killrights he couldn't afford a wardec.

  • @hikingphotog

    @hikingphotog

    2 жыл бұрын

    Bounties are completely different than Kill Rights. Kill Rights enable anyone who was a victim of illegal aggression (ie, ganking), to set an ISK value to turn that pilot suspect for 15 minutes, giving anyone the opportunity to blow up that ship. Whereas Bounties are mostly worthless and can be assigned at random and will only pay out 10% of the value of the ship until the total posted bounty is gone (which unless you are in low/null, require you to illegally aggress them in the first place, which then causes you the loss of your ship). Unfortunately Kill Rights are also used by other pilots to bait unaware pilots into a pitched fight so they can get easy kills. Sometimes they are also used for insurance farming as well if the value of the Kill Right is more than the insurance cost.

    Ship scans don't return 100%, sometimes they don't return anything at all, sometimes just a module or two, and sometimes (very rarely) they return a full loadout. So you usually have to scan a ship several times to get a good reading on the full fit. Because of this unreliability a lot of gankers don't even bother and just scan cargo hoping for no tank.

    Ship scanners are not accurate, it takes several scans to get a good reading. When they only have 5-10 seconds to take the shot it doesn't give much time. Most of the time they are betting on the modules not being turned on. Also with Nado's they need scan res and tracking in their mids, no room for the ship scanner.

    The key here is these guys are attacking ppl in High-Sec. That means the police come to do the dirty work and blow them up. What they are doing is called "ganking" which they play the rng loot drop game hoping that enough of your precious cargo will drop to pay for their ship, which is ALWAYS killed by the police when they commit such attacks. What i did was undocked with a nice shiney cargo in a very well tanked ship, so that their attack would fail. In one case i used what is known as a 'whore gun' to get back on the killmail for their ship.

  • @hikingphotog

    @hikingphotog

    The killrights is essentially the right to attempt to kill that pilot (because they illegally aggressed you in the first place). If you never set it as public, you will still have to activate the killright on that pilot in space in order to attempt to kill them. So when it is set to public with an ISK value, then other pilots can purchase that killright from you, the ISK goes to whomever got the killright in the first place (the original victim). Unfortunately, a lot of griefers have figured out how to game the system and will give themselves killrights from one of their alts to try to get people to buy them. Sry for the late reply, KZread has been behaving oddly for me with seeing comments and notifications.

This time around baiting Nado's on station I'm probably approaching 1b. This is a lot simpler and lazier, esp when you already have a wide assortment of loot to bait with. Worst case you end up with a half decent tanked hauler to move your stuffs with. Yeah, if you don't have any modules to tank the ship with and nothing in reserve to use as bait it would be an investment, but I'm a 5 yr vet that has had the accounts on ice for 2 years until alpha clones came out.

So it has to be enough that after those, they clear for their time and effort. The other downside to this though, is once a particular ganker falls for it, they will have to cash in the killright before you can earn another killright on them. I was simply putting stupid values of cargo in my uber tanked ships in hopes they would attempt to destroy me. I was baiting them to shoot, so they would loose their ship for nothing, wasting their time and isk.

  • @hikingphotog

    @hikingphotog

    4 жыл бұрын

    All they have to do is initiate an aggressive action, killrights are earned at the moment of attack, not after you are destroyed. If you notice in the video, the notification comes up saying killright earned right when they attack. Any time someone shoots you and it would flag them as criminal, you get killrights on that pilot. That's why its nice when 2-3 or more attackers try at the same time, because you get killrights for each of them. That's why you want to tank your ship, so that you don't lose anything and they do. And then you can publicly sell those rights for a cheap enough amount that someone feels its worth buying, or that the ganker feels justifies cashing in themselves just to get it out of the way so they don't have to deal with someone randomly interrupting them right before a big hit.

    Not really a living, maybe earned a total of 10 billion from the various schemes of baiting gankers and then selling the killrights. Which made it even better that I baited them into getting their ship blown up, and then later they would pay me so they could blow up their ship again.
