att chad i think the double hooking method you use for hooking a whole shad is the best method during this past summer on the white water river we really ripped the channel with this method thanks for the tips---ray vires

thanks, I will try this method. What do you think is the strongest most reliable landing net for the bigger blue cats?

Great video. Do you ever have luck on the body section of the shad? I’ve never had luck on the bodies so I just cut the head and through the rest in the water. What’s your preference?

hi my nameis juan and i was wondering i live close to a river and it some times there are alot of current. and whene the water are low is ok of a current, my question to u is what u can recommend to fish on? and i use cut bait for those big cats but i bing fishing for some time i got one fish of 14 lbs that's the only one that i got and some medium size and thas it i hope u can help me and not confused u.lol

Nightcrawlers never fail me..but i fish the channel..and it helps to know what times the cats might run the channel

I use circle hooks and I hook mine in a similar fashion. I was wondering whatt size hook you are using there......4/0, 5/0?

How do y’all hook live threadfin shad? I’m assuming this method is for dead bait. I feel like any method I try they always end up coming off and I’m fishing with no bait for a period of time without realizing it.

@Theoutdoorshow74 there's a lot of ways Fish traps,cast nets a lot of other ways I use a cast net you just have to practice throwing the cast net sometimes it can be tricky

Do you think it's better to fish right on the bottom or a couple feet off the bottom?

I find that cutting the head off the shad makes all the difference in the world. I assume it's the scent? Unless it's a large shad than I just fillet him. I have tried all hooks, and ruled out circle hooks (for me) and use baitholders more than Kale hooks. Whats the benifit of kale over baitholder? I use a river rig tightlining from shore, but Carolina rig from shore when the fish seem spookish. But from boat it's always Carolina rig. Fish mainly Old Hickory Lake and Cumberland River

Is the pre-packaged shad that they sell at WalMart (in the green or red liquid) any good to use?

Pre-Packaged shad is like if you went to the store and bought a Lemon. Would you prefer a nice fresh plump juice lemon or one that is freeze dried to make lemonade. It kinda the same thing. The catfish want a nice fresh piece of bait just like you want nice fresh produce from the grocery store.

Alright i cannot catch catfish at the river nor the lakes around me ... but i can go a pond and catch them left and right ... is there something i need to change or what i use a big hook with hotdog at the ponds and use the same thing at the lakes and river but have no luck can ya help me out?

What about what type of weight? Or is this for just drift fishing?And, also do you use a weight for drift fishing?

typically you shouldn't need anymore than 15 lbs line unless your going for a huge one, I suggest monofilament or braided spider wire.

yes it does, catfish use their lateral line to sense a shad's movement, if a catfish is well fed, it will prefer live to dead

I don't know if you're using a cork or a bobber but I have never ANY luck with those. I've caught tons of cats by letting the line sink to the bottom.

Chad you must fish where there is no current. hook a shad like that would spin like a helicopter until it twisted up mess. keep fishing.

Why is fresh shad so much better than preserved shad from the stores? I would imagine because it has more oils and blood than preserved shad.

Not really I wouldn't use treble hooks would use a kahle hook and thread the worm on but the problem with worms is everything feeds on worms.

Oh yeah thats true, well i live in Maryland, and I have found many fish that feed after dark, I mean except carp, and they have smaller mouths , so they could get they're mouths easily around a kahle or circle hook

I was trying nightcrawlers and only caught tiny catfish.

can chad be used for other fish i live in nj and fish in the bay over the years i have bought more stuff than i could think of and still i have not caught a fish this is years. These guys see a SUCKER when i walk into there store, this hook that bait chad im goin nuts. and still no fish were talkin years... HELP ME PLEASE...

Why wouldn't you hook it thru the back first then the head since they eat it head first.The hook wouldn,t be seated backwards.

i cut the tail off nd string my line thrue the mouth and out the tail, then tie a treble hook, them big boys wont get away easy!!

need to move the camera up or u move down cuz u can barely see what your doing... great tips though

As far as baiting a hook goes there is no real "right" way to do. Though, you should always double hook.
