How to Backside Slide (Carver Surf Skate Tutorial)

Спорт

The backside slide is one of the fundamental moves for surf skating! In the water it allows us to stay tight and in the pocket of the wave as well as throw out some monster spray. In this tutorial I'm showing you guys the basic steps to building up your backside slide from the flatground to banks and ramps.
I'm an average board rider out of North Florida who loves surfing, skating and being stoked on the small stuff. This channel is documenting my journey as a better rider and sharing what I learn along the way. I also do tons of awesome travel vlogs and interview people in the industry who share a similar stoke for life. If that sounds like a path you may be on, consider pressing the subscribe button!

I was about to say the same as Mark! The tapered tail looks pretty useful to grab on to the rail in order to initiate the slide

It’s definitely tricky. The feeling is great though when the back trucks grind over that coping. Really feels like you’re letting the fins snap. Best of luck!

@@WorkForAvocados Yes there is and thanks for asking. I know us viewers just watched the El Salvador vid where the instructor corrected your bad form (your words not mine...lol). I feel another refresher course by you in your style in your bowl would be great. I feel things like the posture and stance and arm direction was well taught by him and you picked it up well. And maybe add in how to apply all this in a slightly bigger bowl where the skater has to compress and decompress more and how do these new corrected techniques work into that equation? This surfer style reminds me of a few skaters back in the 70's that had a similar style just because they were wave surfers. Guys like Greg Weaver, Jay Adams, Shogo Kubo and a few select others were skating just like that instructor. I know, I was watching it from '75 ~ '80...I'll never forget it and it's coming around again. Even in the Over 50 Group lots of riders use that same style too. Ride on Michael...Ride On!

As a person who loves to skate and has surfed a little bit but NEVER surfskated would you recommend a smaller sized board or a bigger surfboard style one for someone who just wants to goof around

I’d say it really depends on the terrain you’re going to be using it on! If you have some really mellow decline I’d go with a larger board. Find something with a nice wide wheel base so you can really feel like you’re being fluid! Best of luck
