    I’ve watched a lot of your videos and I’m really appreciative of all the help you’ve give me without even knowing it. I’m a contractor that does a lot of insurance work and have always specialized in flooring and most interior work. Well I took out outside work and have used your videos to help me succeed and do well on unfamiliar things. Thanks a lot man and keep up the videos because I’m sure that I’m not the only one.

    One thing I learned, if you use it with the blade up you see your line better and always cut from top down on left side and bottom up on right will keep the blade from binding, and it kicks the dust away from you. "Live Roof Play"... asphalt life 😉👊

    Next time blow off all the dust hit it with a wire brush and blow off again you will never have another bond issue. Also look into getting slicks or caulking spatulas from albion will keep your fingers cleaner and will prevent any debonding issues. I dont roof alot but i caulk alot of expansion joints on parkades and on high rise buildings with pre cast panels

    I think the gripping fold causes a hassle because once the unit is pushed in the groove of the stone for adjustments it can't be pulled out easily. I have seen a video where installers left that edge straight, made all the measurement and adjustments they need, where after placing the unit in place wedged it with a folded up line of strip of sheet metal at 5 or so places and that was that.

    Was that coil stock? 🤔 I like the 2" rigglet into the stone and I've always preferred using a one piece system over the two piece wall and counter. Saves valuable time in the heat plus no chance of wash over on backside. I prefer to use a 26g metal due to our roofers around here suck and will destroy anything thinner. Just curious to cost of labor and materials you getting for a job like that on a standard 6/12 pitch?

  • @ethanmcmaster2994
    @ethanmcmaster29943 жыл бұрын

    A speed square and a nice pair of snips will save you from having to get off the roof, hoof it to the break, measure and slice, and get back up. You could get your measurement of 1 3/4, speed square a flat line across the piece and be installing it before you would have hit the bottom of the ladder! You seem really good at scoring with the knife too, and that is even faster than snips - if you trust your hands :P Edit: wrote that out before I knew you were hemming the piece. In this case. you would have had to come down anyways.

    When you run empty on bottle of caulk, do not throw away the nozzle, put it on the new bottle, so you save a nozzle amount of caulk with every new bottle. Though it works only for a single session.

    Flashing looks nice and professional. I just had my 30 square roof replaced 4 days ago. Contractor never even replaced any flashing around my chimney. Looks hideous, they used old existing flashing and I hate it. Now I'm going to have to hire another contractor to come back and flash it properly. 😠

    The boss didn't stay long, after I paid him he left. The remaining crew didn't speak english. I never imagined they'd re-use the old flashing.

    Inside of that crappy siding brake you should get a wuko bender. Only bad part that you need a table lol 😆and instead of face nails on the apron. You should make 1" wide strips 6" long. Nail the strip under the apron.White side facing up. Leave about 1" past the apron and fold the tab onto the apron. Probably one strip on each side of the apron. Leaving no face nails on the apron. Just a suggestion not trying to tell you what to do.

    Keep a thin paint brush to brush out the joint first ,then caulk the joint before you install the metal. Install the metal. Then buy a 3/8" caulk knife at a commercial caulk store and you wont get it on your finger nor rake the crap out of your finger.

    i forgot to mention that! how important lol ....it wasn't..they tarred the shingles to the base of the chimney. i think it came after the fact because they normally would put some flashing in there. i was hoping to find something salvageable under all that tar but no

    Veteran Construction. That’s crazy. I hate people relying on caulk or tar or silicone to keep their home water proof. It’s a joke. You always have to have mechanical flashing if you want it done right but you guys killed it on this one. That took some balls to put the skilsaw blade on the grinder. I’ve never even thought of that but that’s some on the fly thinking. Much respect !!

    Put a huge bead of geocell around the base of that rocky chimney. Flash out laterally 8-12” like you would a valley. Matching those infinite crevices is a lost labor.
