I've never understood this fear to lean thing. Bending curves is the best part (😂). Having someone (usually another rider) ask "how'd you do that?" after seeing me in a crowded parking lot, gotta admit, feels pretty good. Practice practice practice.

That guy was lucky he did not have his lower leg cut off with that steel rail. He should be on a Honda 250 Rebel until he learns who to ride, period.. He may never be able to ride anything bigger than a 250 Rebel if he "fears" while riding. I was in a Jeep the other day and a guy did a stupid move in front of me, stopped hard, so I had to swerve to the right, then swerve back to the left to avoid hitting him. The guy behind me plowed right into him. My wife asked, "How the heck did you miss him?" I said, "I have owned and practiced Jerry Paladino's Ride Like a Pro videos since 2001 when I bought his first video." She said, "But that is motorcycle riding." I said, "Honey, it doesn't matter. Head and eyes and look where you want to go." The guy behind me looked at the back of the car and smashed right into it. Jerry!!! Your videos saved me from hitting 4 horse, on Hwy 29 in Lakeport, CA, a deer on Hwy 44 in Redding, CA., and now a car, while in a car, on Hwy 44 in Redding, CA... Thank you for sharing what you learned. It saved my bacon a few times. Of course, I have bought a few videos from you and Surviving the Mean Streets is one of them. I have practices since 2001 when I first heard you say, "You don't know nothing!" I had been riding from 1974 to 2001 with 1 years experience 27 years over (like you said back then). Now, I got it at 68 years old on a 1500 Goldwing that "feels" like a Honda 250 Rebel...

After almost 40 years of riding, I can attest that there is always something to learn, and I enjoy your videos on instruction. We get a bit 'rusty" over the long winter, and it's always a good idea to start off carefully in the spring, and remember the fundamental skills necessary to ride safely and in control. There is a lot of things that will help you to survive on the road. If you ride , you should always try to improve your skills. It doesn't matter if you are a former pro. racer, or a weekend rider. It also does not matter what type of bike you ride. Check your ego and improve your skill level gradually, and never ride over your abilities. Always be ready to react defensively to other motorists who may not see you and to others who just don't care. Thanks for posting solid advise to all riders Jerry.

Great video as always. I got my first Harley Davidson (Road Glide Limited, definitely the largest bike I’ve ever owned)at the end of this riding season and have already started practicing slow speed maneuvering techniques. Your videos are my number one source for instruction, and several are saved to my favorites. I’ve noticed a decent amount of improvement in the short amount of time that I’ve had and look forward to more intense practice in the spring.

I try to explain to people who ride that if you don't know what it feels like to lean your bike suddenly in an oh shit moment, you will panic and crash.

Always great reminders! I can always make switchback off cambered turns with cinders but the damn cones are harder for me. I look at em! I hit em!! 🤣

It's hard to avoid watching the item you want to avoid. It takes time and practice to make your eyes automatically took where you want to go rather then at what you want to avoid. Unfortunately we don't all have a big lot and traffic cone pattern to practice on.

Thanks for the video. I just did the course local to my area. Man did I not do very well. I know head/eyes was part of it but I really struggled to know what I was doing right/wrong when it came to using the clutch and the rear brake. Making very wide turns....I sucked. Ha.

My course would be way too advanced for that guy. What he should do is go back to the beginner rider course and then get a small bike to practice what he learned in the beginner course. But I'd bet he'd never do that.

SMH at some of the comments. So, if someone makes a mistake, they should just give up? I dropped my bike at least 4 times taking Jerry's course. Does that mean I should just hang it up and forget about it?

@@motorman857 Yes, was referring to the comments suggesting he should quit riding. Probably Gen X and Z who have no idea what getting old is like nor will they be able to stomach it when the time comes - if they even make it that far.

Really? Are there people who actually ask why practice in a parking lot if they ride on streets and roads? Are there such stupid people among motorcycle users?

  • @motorman857

Tons of people claim that training in a parking lot to avoid obstacles is a waste of time. Generally, they are riders with no technique or skills but believe they are such expert riders that they don't need to train because they only ride on the road. In reality, they are the riders that need training the most but are afraid that they'll find out they actually suck at riding a motorcycle.
