I recently changed jobs and got a 20% pay increase which was amazing. I haven’t changed my spending and my goal this year is to pay my mortgage off. It’s so easy to spend your life trying to keep up with other people but I’m happy where I am at the moment. Great video.

most personal finance advice is for middle class people so they focus on stuff like lattes and I was reading this in books as someone from a working class and under-class (carer) background thinking no... lifestyle creep is the POINT of earning more? they're so out of touch, thanks for this. Things like better quality food are needed to work more and earn more. Pleasure is not the enemy.

Great video. When I reflected on my old spending habits, I found it silly that I was spending that much on luxury makeup and handbags with only an average income. I’m so glad that excessive want is over.

Great advice Amelia. This year has been full of changes for me. One big change is I wanted to start living below my means. It’s been a hard change but it’s been so rewarding.

Amelia, your advice is incredibly practical and insightful. I can relate to your points about managing finances and avoiding lifestyle creep. I've had a similar experience where I wasn't tracking my monthly expenses when using my credit card. Every purchase seemed "reasonable" and insignificant, but I was always left with no savings at the end of the month. One day, I decided to sit down and tally up all those "small" expenses, and I was shocked by the total. Those seemingly insignificant purchases added up to a substantial amount. Using a credit card often makes money feel like just numbers, leading to mindless spending without realizing the impact. Your tips on setting limits, automating savings, and being mindful of expenses are incredibly useful. This is especially important for those who don't usually budget or track their spending. It can help prevent debt and the stress that comes with it. Thank you for sharing such valuable advice. Videos like this are crucial for the luxury community, helping us enjoy our passions responsibly and sustainably.

A little fyi...the last person I saw take a helicopter ride on social media was John Taylor and his wife Gela for their anniversary. But that's cool because he's a rock star. I expect that in my rock stars! 😂❤🎸🎶

Excellent video. I started to really manage my finances around three years ago and was amazed at how it actually freed money up for me, not to mention taking a weight of my mind! Im about to retire early from my main job and although I will be still working and am considering setting up a business there will definitely be a period of financial readjustment. In preparation for this I have been rigorously accessing how much I will need to save each month to be able to buy the things I love (handbags and skincare) and what will need to be sacrificed for this to happen. Luckily Im not into cars and drive an 8 year old small car so that helps a lot!

My favorite topic, personal finance! Great advice! I agree with everything you said, including your opener about wanting your lifestyle to creep some, just not too much. I use a zero based budgeting app where every single transaction I make is automatically imported and I have to classified. I decide up front, for example, I want to save $125 specifically for clothes each month. If I spent it all 2 months ago but haven't bought since, I now have $250. If I buy some shoes for $100, that transaction imports, I classify it as clothing, and I now have $150 left for clothing. I can also choose to move that money to the traveling fund, but once I do, I no longer have it for clothing. This approach has changed everything for me. I'm especially taking to heart your advice about renting a thing rather than buying it. I had thought when I retire we might buy an RV/camper and tour our country. But someone mentioned that it might make sense to just rent one and you know what, they (and you) are right! A much more sensible thing not only in initial costs, but in storage and maintenance as well.

Many great tips here! ❤ Specially owning a home, it doesn’t stop at closing/when you get the keys. Outside of general cleaning chores, there is so much upkeep on a home and ours is only 4 years old but it still requires actions on biweekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis all together. (i.e, Not optional. Lol.) Always something to do/spend on top of the mortgage, property taxes, home insurance and utilities. 💸 💸 “there she goes, there she goes again…” 🎤 🎶 😂

technically everyone is renting until the bank rules the mortgage loan is fully paid off, people don't read the contracts so people brag prematurely about "being a homeowner or buying a home" when I hate to correct them but they are renting from the bank, who legally owns it
Great advice, Amelia Rose. So many considerations that I have not been second nature to me. I need to be more deliberate about my spending habits and get back to thinking about saving money consistently. Thanks for sharing!

You can sign up to several different pension schemes, even under the same employer. The 8% I think it is now? That is a guideline, not a limit or rule. You can also double up on your contributions to one particular fund if you like it.

Good advice
I read in a book about houses years ago, it said that a house requires 2% of the TOTAL PRICE in maintenance and upkeep, without considering taxes. Biggest takeaway from that book and he said most people never factor this in, let alone budget for it. I would heavily suggest setting that aside because major stuff like a roof repair cannot wait and that's like every 20 years.

A very valuable topic Amelia. Thank you very much. Honestly, I am at a place in my life where I have to re-evaluate finances for myself (a single woman). I spent a good chunk of my inheritance living off it during the pandemic lockdowns, and I couldn't work in my profession (with the public, service industry). I have to be careful with money now. Spend selectively. So, thanks again. This makes me have to think about it and create solutions for what to put where. ❤

Best of luck!
I worked for my lifestyle to creep. however when it came to buying our house our rule that we did not budge on was, that all the bills including the mortgage had to be covered by one income, just in case one of us lost our job. it was a great rule, that helped us during covid and it's helping us now that I lost my job in Jan 2024. I'm thankful that no matter the temptations we stuck to it.

Hi Amelia ! Great points . I have been having different savings accounts with good interest rates , automatically " credited " every month . It made me feel finacially safe , especially when at the age of 24 I moved to France . Greetings from Paris 🗼❣

great advice but hard to take especially for a young person when your earnings are usually barely covering living expenses.

True, this video is aimed at people who have stated to earn more disposable income
I opened up separate online accounts for wish list purchases and travel. Automatically, every paycheck, savings, travel and my wish list accounts get allocated pre determined amount of money. I don't have it to spend, so I don't miss it.
