I think 285 is worse than going downtown in my experience.

I drive I-285 all the time. It can definitely be worse than driving through town at times. It’s kinda a crap shoot guessing which one is going to be the most congested.

They need a bypass for the bypass.

I know keep building all these bridges to have to drive on, some of us can't do the high brides, spider bridge? I was told you could drive I-42 to get to Georgia? Or you can take highway 42 to South Carolina but, it would take two more hours?

No. That would just continue to create more sprawl. Atlanta need to density and stop sprawling. Disincentive the car and improvise the safety and convenience of walking, biking and public transit. Only then will you actually help traffic. Adding more lanes, or more roads is induce demand. It will never actually solve traffic.

@@MrAprrc31 a true bypass is a road that completely misses atlanta so we do need to build a bypass since 285 is not really a bypass because its still in the city.

@@RGreenappleS 285 is not "in the city" by any means. Atlanta (in part because of 285) has been sprawling for years, adding yet another bypass will just further continue that sprawl. It would be the same story as Houston, same story as San Antonio, same story as Dallas, They all built a "bypass" for there "bypass" and some even a "bypass" for there "bypasses bypass". but yet they all have the same issue. they want more. traffic is terrible. It cost the state billions, it cost the lives of far far to many, it leads to worst air quality, just bad all around. A second bypass for Atlanta would be terrible.

In Atlanta a 65 mph speed limit actually means 90 where as anything below 45 is basically 45 minimum.

I’ve experienced the same traffic jam on the bypass. I agree. Bypass needed for the bypass.

65 mph is slow in Atlanta. You got to go 85 to 90 to race with the traffic.

The southern suburbs in Metro Atlanta is also getting bad. You’re guaranteed to be in an gridlock on I 75 in Henry County near McDonough and Clayton County near Jonesboro.

We have traveled from Asheville NC to Panama City Florida , MANY times, however my husband is the one who drives, and going through Atlanta ... well ... I close my eyes and pray that we will make it to our exit!!! But NOW we are doing a All Girl Seniors trip to the beach, and guess what ... I will be driving!! YIKES! I am having anxiety just typing about it!!! Could you PLEASE give me clear directions , exit numbers, what lane, etc. to do the hwy 9 ? Or do you suggest another way for all of us old girls to glide peacefully around the craziness of Atlanta, and back on track to the beach? Your video is awesome! TY Deb

Haha, I'm a truck driver that was looking for a bypass bypass. Quick note, we must use 285 unless we live or have deliveries within that perimeter.

Yes that's a problem. In my opinion, semi trucks should be allowed to go thru town on 75/85 during the overnight hours (12-6am). It would promote the use of those hours and a faster pass thru with just some strategic scheduling. Also less congestion for others in the daytime. But then my opinion doesn't really matter.

I can tell you my experience driving and it was a month ago. I'm driving from McDonough to Acworth. I use Hwy 155 to Wesley Chapel Rd then I-20 for a bit then use 285 I be honest it wasn't bad and I end up speeding up to 80mph before dropping down to 70mph and I hit traffic on 400 didn't take too long. Til I hit I-75 and again I speed again up to 80mph again til I hit Hwy 92. Now the opposite that was hell I hit traffic in Smyrna(that took 30 mins) then hit traffic again on 400 when I was on 285 (took 13 mins). Overall I don't like the traffic going home like the traffic going to Acworth.

How effective is a Peach Pass in helping to avoid traffic?

  • @AtlantaSuburbanLiving

Peach Pass is most effective in the suburbs to and from Atlanta during rush hour. But, in the middle of Atlanta where all the interstates come together does not have a lane for the peach pass.
