Amazing video, you have no idea how helpful this was!! You only forgot to mention that there are only specific versions of python that's able to import pywinauto, so it took some time to get started as I had to figure it out myself. But otherwise, GREAT video! I'm grateful for your work❤

For me ".print_control_identifiers()" and anything with ".child_window()" takes several seconds, but in your video takes less than a second each time. Has it always been that fast for you, or did you have to do some sort of extra tweaking?

Hello, amazing video!!, I have a question. If the name of the app opened changes depending on the name it was given. For example, if you open word, it has a default name, but if you save it, you changed the name,now what happens when you want to connect and run Phyton there?. I don’t think you have to go change the name on the code every time. I assume there is a way that we write the code and connects to whatever the new word window name is. How would that be in that case?. I appreciate the help in advance.

Hi. Great video. I had a question. Sometimes is takes too much time for a child_window to load or be visible and the code gives an error and timeout is not working for child_windows. Is there a way to add wait or time in child_windows until they are recognized ?

How do you find buttons in a more automatically way? Currently the method you used is print control identifier, then manually see the location of the 'File' button, then manually copy-paste the location of the 'File' button into the code, and print control identifier again to manually look for the location of the 'New Window', then copy paste in... This is a good and safe way, but it seems lesser automatically. Thanks.

Im new to pywinauto, just wondering are there any ways/tools that can location ANY buttons you want. So that later on no matter how to application has been changed, the program will always automatically search a keyword(like 'New Window') and extract the location into a variable, and use it for future reference.

Yeah. You can use Task scheduler in windows and add new task and set trigger to when log on windows

Thanks Aaron for the simple explanation The app.UntitledNotepad.print_control_identifiers() gives windows which shows up under the Dialog - '*Untitled - Notepad' But in case of my desktop app, if i do a right click on the desktop app then a context menu shows up which is not present in the output when i use the .print_control_identifiers() instead it is seen under "pane" ""(Desktop Window) as "menu" "Menu" How do i select the submenu in such a context menu

Great work, really! But after some testing, I noticed that the print_control_identifiers() method do not print out checkboxes. Can you think of any way of locating these in the software and click on it?

it actually does print out check boxes but the problem is that we cannot set the check box to true or false (checked or unchecked) instead we can only toggle it (click it) so if it is unchecked u can make it checked if it is checked u can make it unchecked

Hi Aaron, Its an amazing intro windows application automation. My question is there are some applications which when we do a right click on the title bar we get a different , so after manually do this action and calling print_identifiers could give handlers but how to enact that right click on title bar, so that we get to see the menu and then comes the action on menu that pops up. I hope you got my question.

Ok so i tested your concept and this is what i found the titlebar mechanism is different in different kinds of applications but most of them have a icon at the top left corner u can click on and get the same drop down list. the handle (child window) for this icon will be under the heading titlebar. hope it helps and if u dont have an icon i will try to find a different way

@@AaronFritz Thanks for the information, in the meantime, I hit across this useful opensource tool called pywinautorecorder executable which when launched, it tracks our GUI interactions, and displays GUI Object Handlers in realtime. And it also has a cool feature which makes us do a "start recording", do some activity and then do a "stop recording", the result is a file having a python script holding the appropriate code that should be used (as wrapper objects) and eventually do the automation without need to worry. Check it out (pywinauto-recorder.readthedocs.io/en/latest/)

@@maruthamuthup I actually had tried the recording option but for some reason it didnt work for me. when i recorded it kept clicking something elseand not the buttons i wanted and it crashes very often. the script is also not so edittable as i had not much clue whats in there. It is a marvellous concept but its needs some fixing. But it has a good element scanner maybe i'll put a video on it

maybe It is there you just don't see it because it is crammed and not aligned so just copy the whole output to a notepad and search for it using ctrl+f if still does not work post your output onto notepad or some source i'll check
