    I love your point about using bombs offensively and more liberally. It's something that I struggle with sometimes, especially when starting a new game and not having a full perspective on resource management. Hoarding bombs makes survival runs so much more stressfull!

    Definitely! It's been surprising to find that bombing early actually reduces stress (because I don't have to blame myself for dying with unused bombs). It even feels kind of liberating to just try to yolo stuff after using up all of your bomb stock :) Sure it's good to save some resources for the final stretch, but going from "try to clear the early levels, then bomb spam" to "bomb early, then try to clear the later levels" may be one of the bigger shifts of my shmup journey.

    Good advice, and it applies to everything really, not just bullet hell. When you look for effective routing for scoring, you start to have to think about screen control and aggression, and I assume with new players they just see a superplayer do something and think they just instinctively do it, when it's just repetition and knowing what to focus and when.

    Exactly! Shmups are a weird genre in that they are very simple at their core, but just looking at runs can be misleading. Very good players often make games look easy, because they know how to avoid being overwhelmed, even skip entire patterns.

    Really related to the comment on consistently dying in stage 3 with too many resources. Walk before you can run I suppose. Really well considered mini tutorial series that doesn't overwhelm with too much detail. Perhaps some coverage on rank management would be a useful addition for the series? I find when practicing stages or bosses in training modes that I'm never sure what to set my rank or resource counts to. Thanks and good luck with the channel 👌

    Thank you! Happy to hear you've enjoyed it. And that's a good point about rank. It's kind of a tricky subject cause rank can vary a lot from game to game and sometimes its effects can be a little mysterious. But I'll try to incorporate it into a future entry!

    8:58 weird flex but ok when you move up, your shots move up alongside your ship, and vice versa. this is known as doppler and can let you kill enemies a bit quicker, though it has no effect on projectiles with infinite speed such as instantaneous lasers. moving left or right also carries your shots, which is called whipping and can let you kill enemies on one side while being on the other. play fast ships for the best results

  • @hazylevels

    @hazylevels

    7 ай бұрын

    The point of the "flex" was to say that there's no shame in bombing, even if you've put lots of time into a game. Looking at superplays when you're just starting out may give the idea that it's expected that players should be able to just no miss no bomb games.

    Mahtava videosarja! Löysin sun kanavan luettuani just Pelatun elämän :) Varsinkin Zen Arcade luku innosti, koska olen itsekin ollut muutaman vuoden kiinnostunut danmakuista. Ensimmäinen 1cc yhdessäkään pelissä normal vaikeusasteella puuttuu vielä, mutta Mushihimesamassa se alkaa tuntua jo mahdolliselta. Tavallaan kokonaisuudessaan on auttanut, että olen kerännyt ja pelannut hirveää määrää eri danmakuja, mutta toisaalta pitkäjänteisempi yhden pelin harjoittelu on sen seurauksena jäänyt vähän vähemmälle. Oletko Touhou-peleihin perehtynyt yhtään? Niistä lähti oma danmakuhurahdukseni :p

    Heii, kiva että oot tykännyt :) Touhou on toistaiseksi tuntematon alue, mutta pitää kokeilla jossain vaiheessa! Ja tsemppiä ekan 1cc:n kanssa, kyllä se sieltä tulee jos vain nauttii pelaamisesta.

    Hi, I have a question for everyone who likes to answer (no pressure): I have just started to play danmaku's or "shmups". I started with Espaluga novice mode on Switch. The novice mode is so comfortable now I can quite easily to play it through with 1CC but the normal mode seems to be too stressful. Should I keep playing with novice mode or shall I continue to beat my head against wall with normal mode? What are the easiest danmakus to play as a total amateur? Thanks beforehand

    Hi :) The jump in difficulty between Espgaluda II's novice and normal modes is pretty huge, and I honestly wouldn't recommend the normal one for beginners. Maybe try Mushi on novice? It's going to be more challenging than Espgaluda, because there's no autobomb, but just take it slow. Play a run or two a day, try to improve little by little, and eventually you'll get it

    I've had this issue with a few games that have easy modes. They don't tend to have a decent progress path once you've cleared them. I would recommend Crimson Clover as it has 2 novice modes, boost and original. Boost I found easier than Original so you have a path there once you beat Boost novice. Then once you have beaten both of those, the arrange mode has a boost and original mode that are more challenging but not outrageously so. And after that you can have a crack at the very challenging Arcade modes (which I am currently attempting). One of the only Danmaku games I've found with this amount of steps on the difficulty ladder to promote progressive improvement. I hope that helps you 😊

    Knowing when to use bombs to save u from death is a skill which takes lot of effort and time to build. And you'll carry this skill from Shmups to shmups. Your brain have to feel under one second that your trapped and that the only way to survive is to bomb, otherwise it's not a skill but a part of a script. Auto-bomb it's a far better option for beginner, because it show you to the very last moment when you should bomb. It tells your brain at which point you were trapped. Bombing in an offensive way is totally different, it's not a skill anymore, it's scripted. That's ok, but the gameplay is less deep when you decide to not learn a skill.

  • @hazylevels

    @hazylevels

    Ай бұрын

    I guess we'll have to respectfully disagree. For me, offensive bombing is just part of routing. And that's definitely a skill in its own right and adds depth to the game imo.
