Excellent. A day late and a dollar short though. I got an LBV 88 about 2 months ago and figured this out for myself. Makes a totally better vest if you attach the butt pack like this. Still a great instruction, thanks Nick.

You should still use Alice clips and not rely on the belt keepers.. also on the lv2 you have two more outer positions you can attach to spread it out full width and help even more with sagging.. at the very least use the outer two sections with alice to reinforce this.. Also as a tip to anyon setting up a full packed belt.. you can also use the webbing on the sides of the lb2 style to attach to the webbing of other pouches for supper when you don’t have the belt space to spread out and use the full width of the pack. Like canteen picked for example that have the webbing on the sides.. attach the two together to added support.. if you ever load the pack down to the full capacity you’ll appreciate having 4 attachment points vs 2 You did good on the upper harness attachment though even running it back the third time so it can’t pull out..

Just attached this pack to a USGI FLC (2nd Gen easy to adjust model) using molle / Alice adapter plates and Alice clips. I ran the top straps of the pack through the rear adjustment buckles of the LBV. I then “trapped” those straps under the rear adjustment straps of the LBV. This is not a regulation setup by any means. I flanked the butt pack with two molle style nalgene trail bottle carriers. I stuffed a woodbie into the newest molle training pack (like it was made for it) and used the bottom straps to attach that. One frag grenade pouch on the belt barely contains a baklava. I attached three more frag grenade pouches to the front which I was really struggling to find civilian uses for, until I wasn’t. One for a Vortex Laser Range Finder. One for two cans of Copenhagen, and a third for a couple of headlamps. This is meant for a “day tripper / hunting setup, where a medium Alice pack just means you’re carrying too much stuff. The wide straps of the LBV distribute the weight perfectly. The upper straps on the training pack are tighter than you might expect, and the pack does not flop around which I found annoying as all hell until I adjusted it properly.

Thanks for the history on the pack. I don’t have a LBV but want to attach the field pack to a pistol belt and use the Alice Y harness since that is what I have available. Any recommendations on the attachment process would be greatly appreciated. I am worried about the plastic d rings. Was wondering if I should make some parachord loops to attach to the d rings and then hook the harness to the loops of parachord.

to be honest if the D-ring is missing you can put a small piece of paracord thru its holder, we did that all the time if the plastic D broke and couldn't take the time to get a new vest from the supply sgt.

@@collectornick4270= I only used this once during Noble Eagle in 2002. It felt kind of strange wearing it and the one I got was shitty because it fell apart from threading out. I plan in the future of getting a set for memento sake. I usually saw this back in the Army with Light Infantry units like the 7th ID and few units of the 25th ID. I had one guy who came from the 10th Mountain said they used this. I used to be a Paratrooper. Airborne units always used the ALICE LBEs because we could always strap them through the T-10 and MC-1Bravo or Charlie series parachute harnesses. I would think that the magazines would be inside bandoliers inside the ruck sacks or inside the jump cases M1950s. Full magazines in the LBV88s pouches fully chuted up without body armor would really mess my ribs up during a landing. On the ALICE LBE in my experience banged on my hips on landing but not bad. Anyway the Army got rid of them because soldiers didn't like them and stuck with the ALICE LBE especially like me in Infantry and being Airborne in my early days it caused heat casualties and discomfort and harder to jump with. That is my opinion.

@@collectornick4270 The Army totally dumped the concept in the mid 1990s. They tried the CFP 90 Pack to go along with it after Desert Storm. My buddies from the 82nd and 10th Mountain used the LBV88 and the CFP90 pack. They told me it was only good for civilian back packing but not great for infantry operations. Both the LBV88 and CFP90 looked great as it looks. Otherwise it was useless as an infantry pack. Airborne and Light Infantry units found out because it had to many useless pouches for Joes to figure out and had an unbalanced load which fucked up Joe's back. The Army Airborne's single point release point system was only configured to the large ALICE pack, it was not designed for the FP90. The Army found out that the ALICE was more in stock and useful and even gave it out to other armies around the world. ALICE was still around for combat in the early days of Afghanistan 2002 and in 2003 for Iraq. My unit in 2006 still had a few ALICE large ruck sacks to be used in combat to carry more 7.62mm for our M240s and extra 5.56mm drums for our SAWs. ALICE is still strong gear. LBV88 and CFP90 was a late 80s and early 90s concept to go into the 21st century. Their influence was strong to create MOLLE gear in the late 90s into the RACK gear especially just for the Ranger Regiment but expanded to more testing after it's initial use in Afghanistan and Iraq by regular infantry units in combat. RACK is much more rare now because they never produced more of it after the Army adopted the MOLLE FLC system for general issue.

The gear in the video was designed to be used together. Older buttpacks aren't designed for LBV 88. I'm currently using a hybrid system. An LC 2 belt, Ranger modified, 2 × MOLLE canteen pouches, a Spec Ops butt pack, 2 × LC 2 ammo pouches, and a Condor H harness. I use 2 LC 2 clips on the front suspenders and simply thread the rear straps through D rings on the pack. Ranger mod for belt is stripping all metal except for the keepers and using 550 cord to adjust. 2 more clips go in pack pockets for using without the butt pack. I've tried all MOLLE, LBV 88, etc. They're all too hot and I like ALICE gear as a solo system. Wear it low, and loose for ventilation here in South Mississippi.
