Just received my press. Site says to use 10mm dies with 9mm rivets. Why? Now I've got a circle 1mm larger CUT into my leather around the rivet and a dented rivet cap.

You need to elaborate on the use of the die set - top, bottom, direction of the rivet before pressing. Thank you for the tutorial but you did not include the important information.

The direction of the double cap rivet doesn't matter.
