How to Attach Magnet Snaps on Fabric

This is demonstration on how I attach magnets onto the lining of a bag. I must mention that there are "sew-on" snaps which look very much like a button. I have never used them (I prefer the look of the traditional ones), but I imagine they are convenient in the sense that they can be removed without exposing damage to the fabric.

    Thank you for this tutorial. The firm interfacing is a very, very good idea for Cotton fabric to give it more stability & longevity. The clasp takes a real beating in a bag or a purse so fraying is a really big concern. I appreciate the time you took to help newbies (like me) out.

    Thanks for this video. Just saved me a lot of frustration. Needed a quick, easy solution to close a homemade duvet cover. The magnetic snaps are the perfect solution. Appreciate the tip about the interfacing on the cotton fabric.

    Thanks ma'am! Do you have any suggestions on how we could cover the back of the buttons? I'm a newbie here and I just need to attach a button to a small cape I'm making for one of my cousin's plushies. I'm afraid he'll get hurt with the metal parts in the back if I don't cover them up but I don't want to risk making the cape look bad! Thanks for any advice, your video was very helpful.

  • @MarcelasPurse

    You could attach a piece of matching fabric as a circle a little big bigger than the metal parts exposed, fold the raw edges towards the inside and hand stitch covering the metal. Perhaps use a devorative detail on it. I hope this helps.

    The legs of the magnet pass from the right side of the lining fabric to be secured at the wrong side, so you have the round part on the right side of the lining fabric. Does it make sense ? 😃

    @@niharika.77 Hello, I would unstitch the lining on the side or bottom of the bag in order to reach the location where the magnet came off from putting my hand through between the lining and main fabric. I would then reinforce that area of the lining with a piece of interfacing or fabric stitched to the back of the lining and put the magnet through as if nothing had happened, unless the fabric has ripped or the initial holes are too big. I hope this suggestion helps.

    . Thank you for your interest Nancy, I am not sure what you mean, though. Are you talking about hiding the magnetic snaps or have you come to this video from another one of my tutorials and you are reffering to the pink bag where I am attaching the the snaps? Please let me know, I am always happy to answer questions and help in everyway I can. 😊

    Yes to hide the magnetic clasp. Thank you for replying. I was a dumb dumb and finished the bag and then thought, 'how will I have some closure' 😂😂

  • @MarcelasPurse

    @MarcelasPurse

    6 жыл бұрын

    :)) Nancy, we all make mistakes like that. But "closure" is important, so, I am guessing that your bag has a lining, if so, you could undo the stitching ( I am also assuming that you closed the lining at the bottom) and put your hand through all the way up under the lining to attach the snaps where you want them to be. Or, you could make a tab with a button hole in it that you could attach at the top of the opening of the bag between the lining and the main fabric (yes, you will have to undo the top stitching for that), then sew a button to the lining if you don't want the button be seen or a pretty button outside at the front. Another option could be to attach the tab on the outside of the bag (at the back) as if it were a flap with pretty stitching and make it go over the opening to the front where you would have a pretty button or magnet (you could even add a tassel to the tab). The other thing you could do is to attach the magnets in a different way with a little tab as I did on my "bucket bag " tutorial, where you will see what I mean by "tab", I hope this is helpful I cannot attach pictures here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iKd9ptyOe7rYY6Q.html I wouldn't try to cover the magnetic snaps in any way, because you will be blocking the "magnetism". I hope this is useful,I cannot attach pictures here, so, let me know how it goes. :) .
