How to Attach a Graduation Hood

One of the most frequent questions asked on the day of Commencement is how to attach the graduation hood to the rest of the academic regalia. Two of our graduating seniors have volunteered to demonstrate the process.

I like how everybody just ignores the extra black fabric hanging off the hood looking like a tail

Most places don't, but there are hoods specifically designed for bachelor's degrees, just shorter than Master's degree hoods.

For Master’s and Doctoral graduates you do not wear your hood to the ceremony. It is placed over your left arm and when you go on stage you hand it to a designated faculty member and you turn to face the audience and squat a little so the designated faculty member can place the hood on you. The length of a bachelor’s hood is 3 Ft long, Master’s 3 1/2 ft, and a Doctoral hood is 4 fr long. Not sure about wearing a Bachelor’s hood as most colleges do not have those, only for Master’s and Doctoral graduates.
