3:47 - be sure to apply all transforms before adding array modifier, otherwise you will get weird offsets based off of the empty in the scene.

Ok, this is really hard to control but I finally managed to do this one a single object. But it seems to not work if you use mult objects or even instancing on faces and array the plane with mult obj parented to that plane. But at least I have it working now with one object so.... There must be a simpler way though to array a group of objects around in a perfect circle w/o manually placing them. Oh well.... the joy and insanity of Blender I think. thx for the tut!
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Unless I'm missing something, which is totally possible, this only works in a vacuum. When you're actually modeling something, and you have a specific point you need the thing to be, then you can't do this. because your empty needs to be at the zero point if you don't want a weird almost random bunch of objects that come out all different sizes and positions. Because you can't set an empty's location to zero without moving it to zero. Is there a way to make this functional that I'm missing?
for those that are having trouble remember to set the xyz scale in empty to the same as the scale in the selected object

Hi Ryan, thanks for this very interessting tutorial, ! I wanna just add someting to your exemple with the proppeller, you can directly do math in the value: juste type 360/3 and you have the result ; blender is amazing :) !

You saved me so much frustration! I couldn't understand what was controlling the distance between the arrayed objects: the distance from the empty. Thanks so much

I tried "fit curve" and put a circle out and eye droppered it. It just kept arraying in a straight line. So I guess "fit curve" is broken? That's why you used an empty? thx
Do you know that feeling when you watch a tutorial and start laughing in disbelief about how easy the guy makes it look? Had that a few times 😂 Great video!

When I try doing the the gear part of the tutorial the array, at count 4 for example, scales up the selected object at each count. It doubles the size of the original item with each count. This happens when I have an empty axis selected as my object offset. Using 4.0
Don't know what I'm doing wrong, but when I select the empty at the object offset, the duplicate is place at the empty. It doesn't rotate around the empty. Very frustrating.

Sorry about that, right click on the object you are trying to array and set the origin to the 3D cursor, this should fix it 😁👍

me too. I tried to repeat the steps with my object and the the objects rotate around the empty but get smaller with every duplicate
@crafish5783
Жыл бұрын
Hey, try presing Cntrl+A and apply scale. That could possibly fix your problem.
Do you know how to unwrap the model to get my own repeating texture on every brick (with own texture for every brick side but all bricks looking the same)
any ideas why when I select a the object offset it snaps to it even though my relative offset is 0 ?
How do you stop it from doing the scaling thing? I'm trying to get them all the same size.
I dunno if this is right but I had to set the origin of the object I wanted to "orbit" the empty as the same place as the empty.
This tutorial is pretty good. One issue for me is, as I build the model, not everything revolves around the world center so the array modifier stops working for me because I can't figure out how to move the origin to the exact center of where I want to rotate the object around. For example if you made a 2nd but different gear and wanted to place it right underneath the first gear, it's not possible from this tutorial.

In Object mode, click the object tab and second one down is Set origin, there are 5 options to choose. Try set origin to geometry. Also you can use a circle as a guide. Good luck.

@@seankelly5318 Thanks m8! I actually found a different way I use now. I duplicate the object, rotate it around the center by specific degrees, then hit shift+R a bunch of times and it keeps copying it in a circle, it works really well. plus then I have actual objects. The array modifier never worked well for me (I'm doing 3d printing with blender).
@robertnett9793

@@dronefootage2778 Modifiers are just math done to existing objects that tells the program to do stuff. They aren't 'geometry' on their own. But you can hit the 'apply' button on each modifier, to turn them into geometry. This is done so you can repetitive stuff quickly - like rotating, mirroring and so on. Once you are happy with your work - apply and 'voila' geometry you didn't need painstakingly create face by face :D

@@robertnett9793 thanks m8. since the 8 months i posted this i learned a lot more. i know how to move the origin of the model and i know how to move the cursor with ctrl+s and i can snap the origin to the cursor and vice versa and to snap the model to to cursor and to use the menu and align stuff where i can select from xyz what i want to align, so now i know how to do this stuff, i was just a real noob back then :)

I used the array modifier a lot but recently I have found that geometry nodes offers a lot of versatility for arraying objects. Could you do a video showing how to array objects in geometry nodes?
@RyanKingArt
Жыл бұрын
Yeah maybe I can do a video on that.
while the propeller is cool implication of this idea, i feel using Shift D, R, Z 120, is much easier and faster
@RyanKingArt
Жыл бұрын
Yes you could do that too.
I watched so many videos on it already and I follow them step by step but instead of it rotating around the object it creates an array in a straight line every time... I don't know how to fix it
Everytime i want to use the array it spans the object behind the other one (like a wagon) and not next to it. I tried resetting the origin to the base, have tried so many tutorials and even different versions of blender but it always keeps creating the array in a line and not next to the object. Please somebody help, this is so irritating :(
Can anyone help me I used the knife to make a crake on the floor but idk how to animate it if anyone could help thanks
@RyanKingArt
Жыл бұрын
hmm, I'm not sure.
My array don't work like that 😢
getting the blade of each propeller bigger by default :(
this begs the question whoever wrote the array modifier why didnt they put a radial array in there as an option, this is one of the most basic tools in 3d modelling. but no, blender has to be different to the point that you have to add more steps than it needs to.
