How to Apply Loose Powder with a Damp Sponge

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

When it comes to makeup, many of us go to great lengths to not only find the perfect product but also apply it correctly with the proper tools. Powder not only helps hide imperfections, but it also helps set the rest of your face for a flawless finish. It’s an important part of your makeup routine-but do you know how to apply it?
Even more than that, did you know that you can apply loose or pressed powder with a sponge as well?
If you’re setting your face or applying powder foundation with a powder brush, it can look too powdery and unnatural. This tutorial will help teach you how to apply powder with a sponge for long-lasting wear.
To get started, you will need the following products:
• Setting powder
• Makeup sponge
• Bowl of water
• Towel
Step 1: Dip the Makeup Sponge in Water
Gently dip the makeup sponge into the bowl of water-don’t be afraid to get the entire sponge wet!
Step 2: Dampen the Makeup Sponge
Next, remove the makeup sponge from the bowl of water and place it on a towel. Dampen the sponge to remove any excess water. Ensure the makeup sponge is now damp-not wet-so the sponge will not absorb the powder when applying it.
Step 3: Tap the Setting Powder
Use your fingers to tap out some of the setting powder into the upturned lid. Typically, you’ll want to use a powder that is translucent or matches your skin tone.
Step 4: Apply the Setting Powder with Damp Sponge
Dab some of the powder onto the damp makeup sponge and start applying the product under your eyes to set the concealer. It’s recommended to use the smaller/pointed area of the sponge so that you can easily set the under-eye area.
After you’ve set your eyes, it’s time to finish the rest of your face. For the face, you can use the larger area of your sponge for a quick application.
While you may want to use a swipe motion, this often causes unblended lines. Instead, gently press the powder into your skin to create an even finish. If you’re unsure of how much product to start with, use a little bit and continue adding powder when you need to.
Now, you're all set! By using this method, your makeup will be set for a day to night look and even resist that pesky oily sheen that appears as the hours go by.

Well, too much powder can dry out the foundation or BB cream pretty quickly (this can also depend on your skin type) which you don't want to happen since then it can look caked-up and and the foundation can crack. I definitely would recommend not using too much powder and powder in between during the day when it's necessary😊

I wonder if it's better to apply with a wet sponge or puff if I have large pores?

Okay I need some help here. When I put my liquid foundation on and I want to set it with powder, I use the same sponge as the foundation application but when I press it on my skin it looks cakey. Do I need to use the side of the sponge that DOES NOT have foundation on it? Because this way does not work for me. :)

I recommend using a separate sponge for it (that does not have foundation on). Also cleaning your sponges and brushes after every use is something that I highly recommend so that they always perform at their best.

@@MelissaVanDijkOfficial Thank you!!! So, I just don't get how the youtubers I see when they are applying the loose powder with the same sponge they just applied foundation with, and their makeup don't look cakey? And I see them applying the powder on the same side..that's so weird, but thanks so much for replying back to me and I will set my foundation with a diff sponge..:)
