So glad that you enjoy my videos. I know exactly what you are saying. When I first decided to train as a nail tech I started googling for the best of everything, and soon realised that a lot of opinions were biased. I wasted a lot of money buying products that turned out to be rubbish. I hope for people to be able to learn from my mistakes and know which products are worth getting and which ones aren't xxxx

Another option to try. Like you I looked for ways to do chromes etc. on regular polish. I thought one day, it seems to be that with gels it's sticking to it as it's a bit tacky so I wonder if it would work if I used a sticky base coat, so I bought some of the Orly bonder which is a sticky base coat and tried that. Works great. So apply that on top of whatever polish you used then let dry and apply your chrome, flakies, holo of choice and for top coat I use the Little Ondine water based base/top coat. I did one on a pop stick using the bonder and another one using gel so that I could do a side by side comparison and they are identical. I haven't tried other sticky base coats to see if they work as well but thought you or others might like to know that the Orly Bonder works great for a non gel option 😃

The Orly basecoat is the only way that I've been able to work with powders. I tried everything that Tash recommended but I didn't have any luck until using Orly basecoat.

JesliH MSP I used Little Ondine water based topcoat. I’m sure any water based topcoat would work. After applying the water based topcoat then you can use any topcoat of your choice. Using water based topcoat first keeps it from crackling.

Wow this is interesting! I've only ever heard of it the other way around - use the UNT base coat over the polish, dab on the powder, and then seal it in with water based top coat. I definitely want to try both ways and see what works for me!

Love these techniques, I've always used chrome powders with gel or a combination of gel and regular nail polish but I've never tried this, I'm definitely going to give this a go! Thanks for such a great video!

I know nail techs must hate the Cristine comparison, but I'm grateful because I've always been an acrylic girl. I never thought about my nails beyond the salon I went to. After her polish mountain I started seeking out more, and I found you! You're so soothing and actually knowledgeable about your craft. Thank you so much for all of your hard work I do not do gel nails because I can only wear polish on weekends not allowed to wear it at work but I bought a chrome powder not realizing it needed gel but I have water-based top coat tried it and it worked great

Holy crap! I can't believe this works so well! I thought I would never be able to use powder on normal nail polish. Going to have to get all the products you mentioned now! 😂

I am so happy you made this video!! I have just recently started to paint my nails again after many years and I love the chrome powder look,but i prefer regular polish. Rubbing the powder with y finger instead of the brushes works PERFECTLY, even over a regular top coat. Thank you so much! :)

Thank you so much for your video I love it I can now do chrome nails without having to use gel polish, because I'm allergic to gel polish.

I have been using Luxapolish Opal Chrome over HK Girl Glisten and Glow with a thin layer of UNT and then HK Girl G&G again and it looks incredible!!! So that's another option as well.

I'm so glad you found my suggestion to use UNT helpful!! I have also had success using regular polish to buff powder into (in the US we have a thing called Yellow Stopper that dries tacky and I've used that with great success). I have also used Little Ondine water based polish to buff into. I might have to test to see if using water based underneath gives a better result. Now I want to do some chrome nails!!

+Radishes for the Resistance if you put regular topcoat right on the powder it destroys the mirror finish. Using a water based topcoat or a hack like UNT lets you avoid this.

Great video, helped me a lot, thanks! :) I tried out the BPS unicorn chrome powder not long ago but my results with the nail polish base were not that shiny as I expected it to be... (on gel it's stunning!) But I'll give it a go this way! :) Oh, and I do apply chrome/holo/chameleon pigment powders with my fingertips, too. :D I find them the best method especially when working with not 100% dry nail polish as a base... :D

Hi, Natasha this is the best tutorial I have seen for the mirror with no gel. And I have searched for about 4 months now. I have in my stash now .... the Unt, that Sun water based bottle , a Zoya armour water based top coat ( I don't remember why I bought this one ) and some Chameleon powders from Beauty Big Bang (which are advertised for natural nails and gel application. Anyway my questions are..., Does this type of manicure last for a few days? And does it crack after a shower? Thanks

Nail newbie here. First thank you!!! This world is a bit intimidating lol and this was so conscientious. Secondly- would it hypothetically work to do 2 coats polish- the magic water based coat you mentioned the powder and then another layer of the water based too coat? Or do I need to start by investing in multiple top coats? 💜🌟

Hi, just wanted to know I am so grateful for this tutorial. I searched everywhere on line on how to do powders without gel. Thanks to you :-), I have used your instructions successfully with chrome and chameleon powders. It took a while for me to get the sun water based polish. I found on Amazon and it took 5 weeks for me to get it from China. Anyway in the meantime I tried using the Zoya water based top coat and it k8nd of failed.

I've done this experiment as well with Unt over chrome then top coat and I found for everyday wear, I'd get dents as if the Unt was soft underneath. I let the Unt completely dry so I'm not sure if this technique is good for just art, but not everyday wear. What was your experience?

Do the holo pigments work over this topcoat too? Thanks

Hello, so if I use a regular base coat acetone won't take it off?

UNT also works to run in the powder since it's water based too! I've noticed that most waterbased top coats can be used as a peel off base coat, and most NON GLUE peel off base coats are water based!

I do my nails with Kiara Sky dip powder (any color). Can I use this on top of dip powder?
