In 4WD the front tires rotate a few % more circumference length relative to the rear so that they 'pull' the tractor along on wet ground. On pavement this % becomes premature wear. Such tire wear occurs across the crown of the tread but misaligned e.g. 'pigeon-toed' tires wear toward the edges even if you are properly in 2WD on pavement.

Good to see you again my friend. I need to watch my new tires real close or get my front end alignment checked. Seems 4 wheel drive wears them fast enough, anyway. Good video as usual.

thank you Vic, I wanted to also let you and Joy know how much I appreciated the card. I been a bit stressed lately and had not been able to write or make any videos. I'm scheduled for more surgery related to the cancer the first week of oct. needless to say I been plenty upset over this news. I'm just dreading it and worrying over the outcome. I would appreciate some much needed prayers. I think of you and Joy often and I hope you have been enjoying your summer. Love and respect to the both of you. Dave

For my L4740 its Operator Manual P98 says to measure the distances between marked centerlines on the front tire rear and front edges (at the height of the hub center) and ensure that the front is toed-in from 1 - 5/16th inch meaning a very small amount. When you measure with tires off then the difference taken at the front and rear of the hub is very small so I am assuming you are calling it "zero". Still, the manual is the manual! My other point is that per the manual, if you can mark the center of each tire width accurately you can keep the tires on the jacked up tractor when doing the alignment..

Thanks Dave. Good knowledgeable advice. Hadn't ever checked my front wheel alignment. How can you tell if it needs an alignment? Will the front veer to the left or right or can you tell by tire wear? Maybe both, I guess. Good stuff to remember and do a check. Hate to admit it but I just never thought of it. Thanks much for the video. Hey, where's Daisy? She usually strolls through to make an appearance (smile).

my front wheels started wearing really bad really quick. I wish I would have checked it sooner. I will from now on. the tie rod end on mine got bent and that made the front end out of alignment. I bent it back and then adjusted it the final amount. I'm hoping to get the video of bending it back straight put together and upload it as well. just hit a snag on that video. Daisy is doing well she is getting fat by the minute, still chasing the fox, and other predators that are after the neighbors chickens. just so you know, I went for a check up on the cancer a week or so ago. they spotted some issues and I go back in for more cancer related surgery first week of oct. I'm a little scared but hopeful everything works out.

Looking forward to your video. Heck, bending a tie rod is a bit amount of work. Heck, they're not an easily bendable hunk of metal. So Daisy is getting a bit chunky, huh? Well, I'm not gonna say a darn thing. I've beefed up from Cheetos, Mountain Dew, and Slim Jims (hahaha). Remember, everyone's gotta at least wolf down a few Slim Jims or Beef Jerky in their lives. Take them with ya when you go hunting. Dave, all will be fine at the doctors. Put it in the hands of our Father, he wants all our concerns and cares and said, "Fear not, for I am with you" (Is 41:10) which he said to Jacob. He is our strength. All will be well, my friend. Now get out there and straighten a few more tie rods (smile). Later brother.

You have a pissy trolley jack on soft ground and no axle stands..!! Had you straightened the tie rod, you probably would have corrected to toe in..Not necessary to remove wheels. On concrete, Jack one side at a time, have a marker fixed to a block of wood on the floor. Have someone rotate the wheel while you scribe the line at the tread around the circumference so u have a mark to measure from.. Measure from the marks at axle height..

thanks for the comment and suggestions. I did straighten the tie rod but it did not straighten enough to put it back correctly. it was bent a lot and I straightened it a lot to the point I was afraid to go any further with out removing the tie rod completely and putting it in the press. the jack was merely back up since the front end loader was what held the tractor in the air for the most part. the metal pieces I used for measuring meant I was able to hook one end of the tape to one piece and pull the tape over to read all while doing this job alone with no help. since finding people to help around here can be a chore at times. lol anyhow again thanks for the comment and suggestions I'm sure many of the readers will use your suggestion.

daveknowshow .. taking the rod off and straighten it in the press is exactly what should be done, short of replacement. Unless it is ‘straight ‘ it will likely bend again as soon as you have ur bucket loaded to capacity, and turn ur steering.. I recon it will eventually collapse and you have to replace anyway.. This video should be about changing ur ruined tie rod..

@@warryckscown5620 actually it has never bent any further, I did straighten the road while on the tractor with a hydraulic jack and some chain. to remove the rod would have more likely damaged the dust boot so I chose to straighten it while still installed. I simply did not show how I did that. the tie rod works perfectly and has never bent or failed any further. typically once a rod bends regardless it will bend again unless you re-enforce it to not bend. I prefer to allow it to bend which will keep it from bending or breaking another part that would be more costly and or difficult to replace or repair. these are just my personal methods and they are no more right nor wrong than your methods. if you choose to replace yours by all means make a video start a youtube channel get subscribers and share how you spent money buying a new part and replacing it. make sure you contact me with a link to that video and I will be happy to link it to this video to help you build your youtube channel. I'm always happy to help folks who want to share their preferred methods of doing things on youtube. with that said keep in mind the title of this video is how to align the front end on this tractor. the method I used in my opinion is very accurate and easy. it is laid out in a video that even a monkey could follow. this is the resulted video I aimed for. this means I had a successful adventure making this specific video. I look forward to seeing your video on this subject and linking to it. peace love and respect Dave in Virginia
