How to adjust the P / T line Brompton locking block

This is a short video showing how to adjust the advance locking block on the P line and T line Brompton folding bike
What's the locking block?
It helps keep the bike locked in the folded position - so when you pick up the bike it stays folded
If it is adjusted / set up badly then one of two things can happen
1/ the bike unfolds when you pick it up (when you don't want it to)
2/ the seat post doesn't go down correctly (it catches) when you are trying to fold the bike
We show how it can be adjusted to run as designed

    Finally I understood how it is possible to keep the P-line folded even with the seatpost half way up. I wonder whether this block could be retrofitted to the old C-line as well.

    That's what everyone wants to know :) I suspect not, due to cable routing, and the screw... there is likely nowhere to fit the screw into on the older models. However I've been looking at my Brompton and I'm confident it should be possible to make _something_ to fit into that space, to get the same result.

    By the Brompton part digram and checking my own C line. Short answer No. Long answer maybe but at your own risk. What Brompton part Q102709 (Brompton Advance Rear Frame Locking Block) connects to is the "front fender bar" on the C line and it is "dented" to give clearance for the seat post when down and judging by the diagram on the P line this rear triangle part has been changed into an L laying long side down and welded to triangle for rigidity and with a M4 hole at just where the fender ends to give space for the new Locking Block I guess a a skilled hobby welder might be able to do it or maybe cutting the front fender bar into a half pipe. Seems like a lot of work for marginal gain.

    As an owner of a now outdated, oldtimer, 2019 SuperlightM6LXBrompton (For now close to 9 kilos, even with my mudguards on my bike (I'm a Dane)! Try to beat that with a T line, for double the price and less gears! Okay, I have changed much to titanium, along the way, adding to its high price, but still with 2 gears more for extremely steep roads!). But my locking system works every time, if wanted (I also have a position for constantly being unlocked)!!! But I have an elastic, black Velcro band round the frame and inside the wheel also, for security when folded, which I leave on the bikes frame during ordinary use also. No problem! Finn. Denmark 😄

    What an absolute faff. I’ve never had a problem with my older Brompton unfolding thank to that wee plastic hook that goes around the chain stay.

  • @darwiniandude

    @darwiniandude

    Жыл бұрын

    I believe on the previous models it's not the hook that stops it unfolding so much as the stop disc, the adjustable stopper behind your rear brake which touches the bottom of your seat pole when you lift the bike. However if the seat is raised, the bike does unfold. This new design is based around the idea that you can have the seatpole halfway up and wheel it around by the seat pole. It's a different placement of the same type of idea: something to press against the seatpole.

    The future... who knows? It is very intriguing that third cable capacity. The P Line triangle doesn't have the two welded points necessary for the standard chain pusher underneath and the derailleur spring above, so it cannot use the old/standard derailleur gears, so it is not compatible with standard 2/6 speed. But the P triangle does have the cable pulley fitting welded/brazed on so you could use a regular hub, so you can use a P Line with hub gearing as long as you route the cable through the stopping block. So you wonder... at some point in the future is there going to be a bike that uses the P Line triangle and hub gearing and will there be a 2-speed version of the 4-speed derailleur so use alongside a hub... so, possibly a six-speed bike with a P Line triangle... why, I don't know, when you can use a superlight titanium triangle and existing C Line derailleur+hub setup, but it's pretty tantalising, some kind of hybrid next generation P Line...?

    I've been riding this bike for about a month kzread.infoUgkxwC0IIeIomGQVeBWg-kKJaToZkLEFIA2W and a half now and I think it's fantastic. It helps me get to work on time every day since I'm able to fit it inside of public transportation rush hour. The price is great too, people are always shocked when they ask me how much I paid for the fold up and I tell them "200". It's easy to fold and installation when it ships is insanely easy. All you have to install when the bike arrives is one foot pedal, everything else is done for you. I do recommend you carry some sort of wrench to tighten any loose screws on the handle bar and seat whenever they get a little bit loose. Other than that I think it's a fantastic bike. Easily fits in the home, can fit inside a car trunk and can even fit in subway rush hour.
