How To Adjust The Fit Your Touring Kayak

Спорт

I made this video in response to a few post I saw online. Customers with their brand new touring kayaks totally misadjusted. Fit is everything when you get into touring kayaks. You want your kayak to become a part of you, an extension of your body. If you're not adjusted and talking to your kayak, you're missing out on so much fun!
Lets take it to the next level. If you have any additional questions please leave them in the comments.

I feel your pain ... most a the big names in kayaks are NOT available here in the Denver area ... I think there is a Jackson dealer close, but little else. I agree with Dan, make it happen man! Get us a Headwaters store in every major metropolis! :) That would be sweet ... I may say %$#@ it and drive out your way ... I grew up on the San Joaquin Delta so it would be great to visit. My parents lived in Rio Vista for a spell so I'm very familiar with the Lodi area.

After doing more research i am liking these Feelfree Aventura kayaks more and more for what they have to offer. Had my mind set on a Dagger Axis because the drop down skeg and storage room for multi day camps. Problem was Axis didnt have the hatch in the bow for storage. Aventura does plus its 27 inches wide and i dont lose stability where the Dagger Stratos is only 24 inches wide plus its 400$ higher which makes a huge difference when you buy 3 at a time saves me 1,200$

Hello Dan how you doing. You are a great teacher man I learned a lot for you. Love watching your Channel. I share some of your videos to help people get a kayak. I have one question? I have big very very wide feet sz13 4 EEEE WITH fat wide toe. Do you know if they make foot brace wide enough for people with wide feet like me. My foot brace on my kayak are too small and my feet will not stay on them because they are so wide. The way you were showing your feet in the kayak I would not be able to do that especially with shoes on. There is no water shoes or regular shoes that will fit me. I have to wear flip-flops to fit me but I can barely put them on my feet. I have to sit down pull the straps wide enough then slide my foot in 2 wear my flip-flops. That's just how wide they are . It's embarrassing sometimes so I mostly kayak barefooted 👣. I have to wear flip-flops year round even at work because that's the only thing that will fit me and won't crush and my toes. It really sucks having wide feet like this It's so embarrassing .Do you know if they make any wide foot brace for kayak. Thank you Dan you take it easy.

If the boat is so short that it doesn't have a bow storage compartment, it's not a touring kayak; it's a recreational kayak. On the positive side, it does have perimeter lines. So few recreational kayak manufacturers bother with such safety features. Maybe call it a hybrid recreational-touring kayak?

Hi Dan! I've been watching some of your videos, and I was wondering if you could offer some advice for someone looking to buy their first kayak. I've had some experience whitewater kayaking, but I've always rented before, and now I'd like to get my own kayak at an affordable price. I'm looking for a sit-in kayak for someone weighing about 150 pounds without gear; a solid rotomolded model in the $700-999 range. So far the Jackson Zen and Dagger Axiom have caught my eye, but they're a little out of the price range. Any suggestions? I live in Miami, Florida so there aren't a lot of specialty whitewater kayak vendors near me. Thanks again for the great videos!

So I ended up getting an Aventura 140. I think it’s going to need some thigh support - both to keep my butt from falling asleep and to push my legs up a little further into the thigh braces. What would you recommend? Thigh risers (and do those get glued to the bottom and sides of the boat?)? Or some kind of pad under the seat? Any product recommendations would be appreciated.

So I managed to find a couple of Aventura 125s online but the one question mark that's keeping me from pulling the trigger is the seat comfort level. In your top 5 rec sit-ins under $1K, you rated it as "meh," which concerns me, being in my mid-40s with occasional back pain. How adjustable is it in terms of lumbar and thigh support? I have both dialed in pretty aggressively in my car. (And does it come with an outfitting kit full of foam pads/shims like the Dagger does?) Most of my paddling would be fitness paddling on the Ohio River for 2-3 hours at a time and maybe some half-to-full day trips. I want to be able to walk afterward! (I also found a Dagger 125S in stock. Is the seat $500 more comfortable?)
