Thanks so much. This is the first video which explained the "turnbuckle" concept for me. My Merlin Powerlift has a large black plastic bit in the middle which I now know is its turnbuckle- it just doesn't look like one (to me). Loosening the nuts on either side and turning the plastic bit worked to take up the slack in the chain which cured the noise I had been trying to fix by lubricating everything in sight. When I was up the ladder lubricating the chain and opening/closing the door I noticed that the chain was actually scraping on the top of the door and this was the noise i had been trying to cure. Other videos show a different setup which I tried but didn't fit with what I was seeing. Soooo quite now.

Your video pretty much shows what's happening on the house that we just bought - the only difference is that the shake/vibration is worse on ours and, it stops a few inches from the bottom and goes back up (but not always - sometimes it closes all the way). I would have thought that the clanking/rattling chain meant that it's too loose whereas you seemed to suggest that it needed to be loosened. Suggestions, please?? Thx!

Sometimes my garage door opened for about 2 feet, then it stopped. Sometimes it opened fully. I checked the spring, it is not broken either. Do you have any tips for fixing this issue?

If you checked that the spring is not broken, I would check the balance of your door tension. It sounds like it is a little on the side of heavy and the door is stopping. Meaning there's a door issue it probably needs a tuneup to where the springs are more balanced, that's where I would start.
