😊 Yay, I'm glad you found this channel too! There will definitely be more Celica videos posted in the future. The coils that I'm running are made by BC Racing, and they are the BR Series coilovers. And I absolutely love them.

I purchased the coils in 2018, but don't think I actually put them on the car til 2019. So, I've been running them, on the daily, for 2 full years now. The only issue I had with noises was when I had the preload set incorrectly & I promptly fixed that issue. Otherwise they've been quiet as a mouse. No binding or popping or anything of the sort - in fact, if those noises happen, I'd say something is wrong with the set up. I'd definitely recommend these coils, they're smooth like buttah! 🤓 Thanks for the feedback, so glad you're enjoying the content! 😊

omg I’m saving this video as well, no one else explains and shows it better than you, you showed me how to do it, now is my turn and I’ll see how everything goes, i have D2’s but thinking of switching to BC.. cus D2’s doesn’t have the dampening to go stiff or soft.. which sucks even tho i have to buy that shit separately.. < bought D2’s used. never again buying used coilovers

Hello, I was able to raise the ride height of my car. When doing so, I unlocked the 3rd ring and to raise it, I rotated the 1st ring counter clockwise instead of the rotating the 2nd ring(did not loosen). Now I’m worried if I changed the preload. As I was rotating the 1st ring, the 2nd ring seemed to be moving along with it as well. No gaps between the 1st and 2nd ring and it seemed to be driving just fine with no clunking.

Thank you for this video. I’ve changed suspension before but basic coilovers - none with preload and adjustable dampening. I’ve installed my BCs as they came from new and allowed time to settle and now I want to lower the car more and this has helped how to do so - not needing to touch the preload. Why is the preload so important and what are the affects of the spring being more compressed? Also do you have any advice or videos on changing the dampening, I.e how much I should adjust by at a time or is it a case of try until it feels good? Sorry for all the questions

For a street car, you generally want enough preload to keep the spring from rattling around. Too much preload can reduce your suspension travel, and can cause damage to the internal components. For adjusting the dampening, it really is a case of trial and error. From what I've read about BCs on the street, turn the adjusters all the way out (counter clockwise) and record the number of clicks for each. I would recommend starting with 15-18 clicks in from there on the rears and 17-20 clicks in on the front. Always keeping a slight (2-4 click) bias towards the front settings being stiffer (clockwise). If you track your car I think everything I've said here goes out the window!

Great video… So simply put... you said that buying a brand new just leave the pre-load alone for the majority of it… I just got my brand new getting ready to put them on tomorrow I'm gonna take your advice on that and not touch the pre-load… But I'm curious you adjusted yours… What was the motivation for that did you buy them used and or you just didn't like the factory set on that comfort wise etc.… Thank you for a response great vid probably the best one I found yet on this topic for the every day guy👍

Hi! Excellent question. So, I bought my coilovers new. I accidentally messed up the preload on one coilover when I installed it (it’s the one shown in this video). The other 3 coils were still factory pre load setting. The one corner, front left, where pre load had accidentally been adjusted when installing was super bouncy and it did not ride well. I could feel in that one corner that something wasn’t right while I was driving. In fact, that error was the inspiration for creating this video, I wanted to teach others not to make the same mistake that I did. So if you got your coils from factory, I would 100% recommend leaving pre load alone, and only adjusting the ride height to suit your needs. Good luck with your coil install. I have an Infiniti coupe G37. I also have a set a call overs that have been adjusted but it’s actually too low and it’s maxed out no more threads . I need to increase height by an inch so it’s not so low on the back. Any advice on how to do that inexpensively so I have to replace everything?

Hi. So, it depends on what set up you have on your car. If you have adjustable coil overs, like the BC’s, you should be able to change the ride height by raising them. Similar to what I do in this video. However, if your car is lowered on springs you won’t have the ability to make adjustments to the ride height. Good luck!

When your measuring the ride height are you measuring the thread ‘between’ the adjusters or are you including the depth of the adjuster rings??? 🤔🙂

Hi. If you're just raising the car an inch, don't change the preload. Just raise the car via the ride height adjustments and leave the preload alone. Good luck. 🤓🔧

what’s the purpose to leaving the little rubber casings on the springs ?

That's a great question. That rubber piece serves as a dampener, reducing vibration & rattle noises on the coil, resulting in a more pleasant driving experience.

Thank you for using a hammer to knock the nuts loose and not your palm ❤😅. Every time I see someone do that my hand hurts lol. But also this seems quite different from how BC tutorials show how to set preload. This way looks like it has no preload?

Hi! Thanks for your insight. You are correct, I set my load to zero, as shown, which is not what BC set's theirs too. BC sets their load to the width of the spanner wrench. Which is incorrectly labeled in my video. (I plan to make an updated video clarifying this.) My intention for this video is to show people how to make adjustments, and not to tell anyone what exactly to set their load to. Hope this helps clarify things.😀 Also, my hand hurts too when people don't use a hammer! Ouchie! 🔨

@@NetsGarage Thanks for the reply, that definitely clarified me. I appreciate it. After a buncha adjustments & more reading, I found my car rode way better with much less preload than what BC recommends. I also think my springs are a tad bit too soft but that’s another issue. I’m also a little ashamed to admit I didn’t realize the pinch bolt had to be loosened to make ride height adjustments. Mine were seized before(which I didn’t realize until recently )so I didn’t have to loosen them to adjust. They also weren’t pinching like they’re supposed to…yikes!

Is it the same process for the front and the rear coilovers?

Hi! You can buy replacement spanner wrenches from BC Racing. The type that work for the BR Coils are "Group A" Spanner Wrenches. Not all spanners are created equally, so if you have a different type of coils make sure you get the appropriate corresponding spanners. @@FastLab_Garage If you have the BC BR coils, the dampener adjustment is on the top, above the top hat, it's a knob, and not adjusted via the spring. Let me make a quick video here in a bit to help you out.

BC Coilovers BR series are supposed to have 4mm of preload (thickness of spanner) you have no preload on that spring hence why you can turn it, not good info 🙈

Clean your coilovers first before adjusting. That grinding noise is dirt, and micro pebbles destroying the threads!
