How To Adjust Motorcycle Throttle Slack
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
How To Adjust Motorcycle Throttle Slack - Every bike that uses throttle cables needs periodic adjustment to take up the natural slack introduced by the metal wire cable stretching over so many miles of use. Too often I see people going straight under the tank to play with the coupling at the sensor or throttle bodies instead of using the proper adjustment turnbuckle. Make sure when you reset your cable slack you leave a mm or two at the extremes so you never have a turn induced throttle situation.

Got home at 630, watched your video and had the adjustment done by 645. Thanks so much for all of FJR videos. They have been a big help with my FJR.
Thank you good sir. I just picked up a 2020 BMW with some horrid slack in the throttle out the door brand new. Had to be half an inch slack fixed it quick with your video.
Bryan, i took the slack out of the throttle cable on 2007 FJR1300AE and I can believe how much better my shifting is now. Before I made the adjustment my transitions from braking to throttle entering a corner were more than a little jerky. I put it down to the YCC (Yamaha Computerized Clutch). I was so wrong. Now those transitions are smooth as butter. Thanks so much for your most informative videos.

Thank you bro that advice really saved and made my day:) take care!
Very informative about the ride by wire, cheers
Thanks! I was trying to figure this out on my R1!
Great advice!!
Thanks you so much brother i just purchased. 2008 Yamaha FZ1 6k miles that sat in a garage for over 2 years the slack is crazy. I was wondering how because i have owned bikes in the past and they were all the same i was looking for conformation and i got it from you.GOD Bless you.
I go off road sometimes and it’s horrible to have any slack in the throttle. Just wanted to confirm I was adjusting the right thing…thanks. A good way to check if u left yourself enough slack is to just put the bike in neutral and turn to the extremes. If it revs u obviously need to add more slack.
EXACTLY what I needed to see because I've noticed the slack in my 2008 FJR throttle to be approaching levels where in corners I've got the throttle on my mind more than the corner. Will be making the adjustments this evening. As always - THANKS, BRYAN!
Well said. Thank you.
Gosh I knew I recognized this guy. Cigarobsession.
Great video 👌
Your the mannnnn !!! Thanks a lot
Very helpful thank you
That helps me ,thanks
Interesting; I been having issues with my throttle giving input when braking and I adjusted lever (still trying to find that sweet spot) and played it’s part of me crashing few days ago (too much brake too) but seeing this video, it makes sense now so I will have to go little more slack on throttle input (not huge amount though)
I noticed on my 2014 sportster the other day alot of slack. I need to look and see if i have that adjustment like you said. I sure hope so. cool. thanks
I wish someone would show a close up of what direction to turn the nuts

Loosen the nut to tighten up the slack
thanks...as always
Thank you!
I came looking for how to do the non-basic on the throttle body. There was far too much slack in my new heated grips/cables.
Thanks just fixed my throttle
My turn buckle in the cable is super tight and I can’t rotate either way. Am I ok to spray WD40 on it to loosen the buckle up?
nice to know!
Thanks again for another cool tutorial. What's the storm's aftermath in your area?

I adjusted mine on my RSV4 yesterday.I had about .5mm so for me there wasn’t enough. This is dangerous also as during braking with the front lever there would be the possibility for the throttle grip to twist.....not what you want when decelerating.
Lol the Cigar guy!!
Interesting. I didn't know you could adjust that much. Being ride by wire.
My issue isn’t the slack as mine was ok from the start but the snappy return spring for the throttle cables. I feel the spring is too strong on the MT09 wondering if there is a softer replacement. It is tiresome to hold a constant throttle with such resistance from that spring. There are people on the FZ forum who drilled some holes on the spring stop to reduce the snap but I don’t think that that is the best solution. Have you got any views on that?

Omg... I click on this video... and IT'S THE GUY FROM CIGAR OBSESSION!!
There are NO turnbuckles on my 2018 Honda Grom throttle cables, so how/where to remove excess throttle play? Thank you!
a bit late but, anyone know what brake and clutch levers they are?
If there are TWO cables from the throttle, adjust both of them? I adjusted one of them and the throttle slack is corrected but does the other cable also need adjusted?

Nope
@ 4:05 is a knife-safe zone just like a gun-free zone? 😅 but thanks for this video. Very clear directions.
So this is the reason why, say for instance: im on my sv-650 2018 and try to overtake someone, I get a little lag when I push on the throttle?

Not always you could have fuelling issues or another underlying problem
would you know if this is true for the Gen 1? model

Show the cables on a carburetor for a 1997 Suzuki Marauder the diagram
God i love this channel as we have the same bike, all these videos are great as we also end up having the same parts and the install videos are great. Now if only these vids didn’t have such an annoying intro noise...
Do any bikes have 100% RBW no part cable part RBW? or are we not there yet?

I’m not aware of any but there may be something out there. We still need the return spring tension.

True
I’m assuming that if you’ve no more adjusting thread left on the grip side of the cable, it’s time for a new cable?! Or is there an adjustment point on the sensor side down under the tank. Yamaha Super Tenere.
What if it’s moving left and right?

That's normal, just the design on some bikes.
Another video not explaining which way to turn the nut to make it tighter or looser......

Gee, if only you could turn it and look if you weren’t sure.
Yeah too little slack cause big problems at steady, cruising speeds.... jerkiness etc...
Never under the tank? Wrong. My motorcycle doesn't have a turnbuckle. And if your turnbuckle is out of adjustment space, you go down under the tank.
Why you didn’t do it bro . So I know what to do . Telling a story is not the same as showing how the story could be change 🤷🏻♂️
