If you really want to do this correctly, you should also be corner weighing with scales to try and lock in balanced loading for better handling.

The entire assembly rotates, look at the threads too. If you rotate the top collar (spring preload) you’ll notice it does NOT rotate the threads, it climbs up them, that’s bad. Once you tighten the two upper collars (using 2 wrenches) turning the middle collar will turn the entire assembly with respect to the cup at the bottom, instead of climbing up the threads.

@@jurassicass depending on the coilover it can range from 0. 5" - 2" of allowable preload. So set them up according to the manual that came with your set. An example of not enough preload: Recently I changed my setup and went lower and I noticed when I was taking tight left turns that the front left made a clunking sound. This means I have too low of preload: because when the car is turning left most of the weight shifts to the right of the car, therefore compressing that coil more and releasing weight off of the left front coil and allowing that shock to open fully. When that happens since the perch wasn't high enough and I didn't preload the spring enough for a split second the coil goes to negative preload and there is an airgap between the coil and either: the perch or the bushing up top; So it results in a clunking sound when the whole coilover recompresses and closes that air gap and the coil forcefully hits the bushing or perch. Does that make sense? Lmk if you have any questions man!

@@jurassicassto set preload - if you loosen the preload to the point the spring is loose then hold the spring all the way up against the top hat, then spin (you can do it by hand) the top collar to the spring so there's no more movement of the spring(doesn't need to be cranked down yet) then spin the middle collar up to meet the top one. NOW crank on the top collar and tighten (up) it until the coilover wrench they gave you, it fits between the gap you just made between the top and middle collar. Now spin the middle collar up against the top collar and lock them in. Done
