How To adjust a Round Adjustable Sheet Metal Duct Elbow - The Sheet Metal Kid
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Here we show you how to adjust a round sheet metal duct elbow for 90°, 45°, 35° or from 0° to 90° or anything in between. It may seem confusing adjusting a round elbow but if you watch this I will put it in plaing english so that anyone can make that wretched round elbow do exactly what you want it to.

I knew there had to be a better way than just screwing around until you get something that might be OK. That business of having every 2nd seam line up is the trick to making a nice uniform curve without any weird wobbles along it. If the seams are 0 degrees apart, the thing is straight. If the seams are 180 degrees apart, the elbow is 90 degrees. By interpolation, I'm betting that if the seams are 90 degrees apart you'll end up with a 45 degree elbow. Now I can get any angle I want easily! Thank you very much for clearing that up. It's nice to have a pro spell it out for the rest of us.

Wow thanks a bunch-we are doing an dust vac system and have had issues trying to adjust to 45 degrees-knew ther had to be some way to get tit done-thanks for showing us how! Wish they would mark on the 4 piece elbows what is 45 and what is 90 degrees! But your video helped me a lot!! Thanks!!
Glad to see you had your Sheet Metal Workers' shirt on, obviously you were well trained. Great job!!

Right on!
Thanks for the videos. The trouble I seem to run into is, the sections don't want to turn very easy (the sections get stuck). I tried a little silicon spray which sometime helps a little. The gauge may have been a little heavier, maybe 28 gauge, it was for a hot water heater flue pipe.

Common problem. Make sure any lube you use on flue is non combustible and try lightly dropping the elbow on the edge or tapping lightly with a hammer on the gores. That will sometimes knock whatever its catching on loose
Can You Cut a Section Off That Elbow to "Shorten", as it seems to Tall for the Gap I Found between the finished Fixture & Crimped Top Pipe?
thank you great video!

Thanks @mrd4292!
Hi sheet metal kid, at what height would you put a sheet of metal in a vice, would it be down low into the vice grip or higher up if you needed to cut a shape out of a metal sheet about the size of a man's hand using a hacksaw, Thank you sir!
Great video; liked the cat walk through at 2:16 :)

Great service, SM kid, thanks - you may want to share a trick for turning stubborn sheet-metal elbow gores. Spray a thin line of WD40 on BOTH sides of the gore. You may have to keep trying while you wait the WD40 penetrates. But sooner or later a lubricated, stubborn undamaged gore will turn.

+Rudy Harburg indeed. here is a article i guess blogged for in 2013 : www.mrhvac.com/2013/06/19/adjusting-the-large-sheet-metal-duct-elbow/
Are the seams air tight or do you need to tape over all of them after you get it adjusted?

+MoneyManHolmes apply cookie or duct sealant. they are NOT air tight
like the shirt :)
Thanks. Makes sense, and now I know. Thanks for no distracting background music.

i wouldn't pop the rivet out. Either slice the elbow seam and thread it on. Or bend the gore and hammer it back in. Much faster.
I tried this and it does not work on duct bought from Lowes. I had to pry it with a screw driver and a set screw in the end to hold it while pressing the rest together.
